Description

背光结构及其显示模块
本申请是2012年6月28日申请的,申请号为201210218321.X的中国发明专利申请“背光结构及其显示模块”的分案申请。
技术领域
本发明是有关于一种背光结构及显示模块,且特别是有关于一种背光结构及液晶显示(liquid crystal display,LCD)模块。
背景技术
显示模块被使用在许多应用场合,如膝上型电脑、移动电话、或个人数字助理。对目前及下一代的移动应用设备来说,市场需求着重在降低显示模块的外观大小,但是同时保持特定的屏幕大小。
为了符合这样的需求,死边(dead border)是一项重要的考量因素。与显示模块的有源区(active area)不同的是,死边通常是一种无法显示的区域,有时也可被称为是死区(dead area)。死边的范围,包括有源区的外边与显示模块的外边或外框之间的区域。有源区与死边两者决定了显示模块的外观大小。因此,若有源区域需保持在特定的大小,则显示模块外观大小将取决于其死边或死区的大小。
目前已有各种方式能用来减小死边。举例来说,可借由缩小显示模块的元件来减小死边。例如,窄化作为显示面板的外框的铁框的宽度,减小用来支持显示面板的支持物的尺寸,或减小用来提供光线给显示面板的背光单元的尺寸。
然而,上述的作法是有其限制的。举例来说,缩小显示模块的元件尺寸可能在制程上,以及显示模块坚固性或强度上会遭遇一些问题。基于这些限制,很可能显示模块已使用可达到的最小尺寸的元件,但显示模块的死边仍然太大而无法满足使用者的需求。因此,如何降低显示模块的死边,仍是业界所致力解决的问题之一。
发明内容
本发明提出一种背光结构及显示模块,能降低显示模块的死边。
根据本发明的一方面,提出一种背光结构。背光结构包括背光单元及壳体。背光单元用于提供光源至显示面板。壳体具有基座部及支持部。基座部围绕背光单元。支持部与基座部连接且与部分的背光单元重叠。支持部用于支持显示面板于其上。
根据本发明的另一方面,提出一种显示模块,包含显示面板、背光单元及壳体。背光单元用于提供光源至显示面板。壳体具有基座部及支持部。基座部围绕背光单元。支持部与基座部连接且与部分的背光单元重叠。支持部用于支持显示面板于其上。

具体实施方式
以下描述背光结构及显示模块的实施例。于一实施例中,背光结构具有背光单元,而背光单元的边是与用来支持显示面板的壳体相重叠,故能缩短有源区域的边与对应的显示模块的边之间的距离。如此,背光结构与显示模块可具有较窄的死边。此外,壳体与背光单元的边之间的重叠部分能避免背光单元的边上出现光晕现象(optical artifact)。兹配合相关图式于下提供进一步的说明。
请参照图1A,其绘示显示模块的一例的平面图。于此例中,显示模块10包括显示面板110及背光结构102。显示面板110例如是液晶显示面板或触控面板。背光结构102包含背光单元130、壳体140、及铁框150。背光单元130用于提供光源至显示面板110,且位于显示面板110底下,故以虚线来绘示。壳体140作用如同支持物,用来支持显示面板110于其上。壳体140例如是塑胶材质、树脂材质、或其它此技艺中所知悉的材质。铁框150的作用如底架,用来保护显示面板110或显示模块10的其他元件避免受到损害。
请参照图1B,其绘示图1A的显示模块沿着线段X-X的剖面图的一例。
显示面板110包含上偏光板111、上基板112、显示材料层113、下基板114、下偏光板115、及密封层116。上偏光板111及下偏光板115分别设置在上基板112及下基板114上,而显示材料层113是设置在两基板112及114之间。密封层116设置在两基板112及114的周围,其间所形成的内部空间用来填入显示材料层113并避免显示材料层113泄漏。
背光单元130包含至少一光学膜131、导光板132、及反射膜133。以多数个光学膜131为例。背光单元130的光线从光学膜131射出。光学膜131具有多个边,如图1B的剖面图所示的边E2。光学膜131例如包含扩散(diffusing)片及棱镜(prism)片。导光板132设置于光学膜131及反射膜133之间。反射膜133将来自导光板132的下行光线反射,使之朝向显示面板110行进。显示面板110经由双面粘合(double-side adhesive,DSA)层160连结至壳体140。
显示模块10的尺寸与许多参数有关。在所述参数中,将对部分参数加上标号进行说明,如有源区A1的边E1、光学膜131的边E2、壳体140的内边E3、及铁框150的外边E4。此外,还有边E1与边E2之间的长度M、边E2与边E3之间的间隔G1、边E3与边E1之间的间隔G2、及边E1与边E4之间的距离D。
为了减小显示模块10的尺寸,并同时保持特定的屏幕大小,显示模块10的死边是一项考量因素。于图1A中,死边是指从显示模块10的有源区A1的外边至显示模块10的外框或外边之间的区域。更详细地说,如第1B所示,显示模块10的死边可由有源区A1的边E1至铁框150的边E4之间的距离D来决定。如此,若能缩短距离D,便能减少显示模块10的死边。
针对图1B中显示模块10的背光结构,缩短距离D有许多的限制。其中一项限制,是有关有源区A1的边E1与光学膜131的边E2之间的距离M。于图1B所示的例中,此距离M是长度M1与M2的组合。除了虚线VA2所示的用于特定视角的长度M2外,长度M1是额外增加的,用来避免光学膜131的边E2被使用者看见,并以虚线VA1所绘示。再者,在壳体140的内边E3与光学膜131的边E2之间,也需要有适当的间隔G1。故知,有关距离D的缩短,距离M与间隔G1两者可视为是限制条件,从而增加缩短死边的困难度。
请参照图2A,其绘示依据本发明实施例的显示模块的一例的平面图。于此例中,与显示模块10不同的是,显示模块20有不同的背光结构202。背光结构202具有的壳体240是与部分的背光单元130重叠。如此,壳体240与背光单元130之间会有重叠处L,如图2A所示。
请参照图2B,其绘示图2A的显示模块沿着线段X1-X1的剖面图的一例。更详细地说,壳体240具有基座部241及支持部242。基座部241围绕背光单元130。支持部242用于支持显示面板110于其上。支持部242与基座部241相连接。举例来说,支持部242是从基座部241朝向有源区A1的边E1’延伸。于此实施例中,支持部242的材质例如是与基座部241相同的材质,且例如是以射出成型(injection molding)方式制成。
支持部242与部分的背光单元130重叠。举例来说,请参照图2C,其绘示部分显示模块20的爆炸图的一例。从图2C可知,支持部242的上表面是长方环型。此种形状的支持部242可用来覆盖背光单元130的边。覆盖或重叠表示支持部242可设置在背光单元130上方,并与背光单元130在厚度方向Z上隔有空隙,以使背光单元130的边可被支持部242所覆盖。
显示模块20的尺寸与许多参数有关。在所述参数中,将对部分参数加上标号进行说明,如有源区A1的边E1’、光学膜131的边E2’、壳体240的内边E3’、及铁框150的外边E4’。此外,还有边E2’与边E3’之间的重叠处L、边E3’与边E1’之间的间隔G2’、及边E1’与边E4’之间的距离D’。
于此实施例中,与部分的背光单元130重叠不但能减小显示模块20的死边面积,并能避免光学膜131的边E2’被看见。相较于图1B的显示模块10中背光单元130是借由额外的长度M(M=M1+M2)来避免光学膜131的边被看见,图2B的显示模块20中是借由壳体240与背光单元130之间的重叠来避免光学膜131的边E2’被看见。如此,从壳体240的边E3’及有源区A1的边E1’之间的间隔G2’来看,本例的显示模块20的间隔G2’可小于长度M。如此,显示模块20的距离D’会小于显示模块10的距离D。因此,便能降低显示模块20的死边,如距离D’所示。
请参照图3A,其绘示依据本发明另一实施例的显示模块的一例的平面图。请参照图3B,其绘示图3A的显示模块沿着线段X2-X2的剖面图的一例。
相仿于图2B的是,本实施例的显示模块30具有背光结构302。背光结构302具有壳体340,壳体340具有基座部341及支持部342。此外,支持部342连接至基座部341,并与部分的背光单元130重叠。如此,不仅能改善显示模块30的死边,并能避免光学膜131的边E2’被看见。
与图2B的显示模块20不同的是,本例的显示模块30中基座部341与支持部342可由不同的材质所制成。于此实施例中,支持部342例如是铁制的。更详细地说,支持部342例如是插入成型(insert molding)所制成的铁框,并被塑造(mold)在基座部341的侧边,如图3B所示。从图3B的剖面图可知,铁制的支持部342是以L形的铁框作为实施例。
铁制的支持部342能使显示模块30的厚度减小。相较于图2B的显示模块20中用来支持显示面板110的支持部242是由射出成型材质如树脂所制成的,本例的铁制的支持部342有高强度与坚固性。如此,支持部342的厚度便可小于支持部242的厚度。因此,便能减小显示模块30的厚度。
请参照图4A,其绘示依据本发明另一实施例的显示模块的一例的平面图。请参照图4B,其绘示图4A的显示模块沿着线段X3-X3的剖面图的一例。与上述实施例相仿的是,显示模块40具有背光结构402,且背光结构402的壳体440具有基座部441及支持部442。于此例中,显示模块40与显示模块30不同之处在于,铁框150并未被包括在内,且显示面板110不仅与基座部441重叠,更与铁制的支持部442重叠,如图4B所示。如此,可增加壳体440的支持强度。于此实施例中,不仅能降低显示模块40的死边,还能减小显示模块40的厚度。
请参照图5A,其绘示依据本发明另一实施例的显示模块的一例的平面图。请参照图5B,其绘示图5A的显示模块沿着线段X4-X4的剖面图的一例。与上述实施例相仿的是,显示模块50具有背光结构502,且背光结构502的壳体540具有基座部541及支持部542。于此例中,显示模块50与显示模块40不同之处在于,铁制的支持部542是位在显示模块50的外侧。铁制的支持部542有高强度、坚固性,可用来保护显示模块50避免受到损坏。支持部542可设置在基座部541的上方,且可延伸自基座部541的顶边,如图5B所示。于此实施例中,不仅能降低显示模块50的死边,还能减小显示模块50的厚度。
本发明上述实施例所披露的背光结构及显示模块,背光单元的边是与用来支持显示面板的壳体相重叠,故能缩短有源区域的边与对应的显示模块的边之间的距离。如此,显示模块可具有较窄的死边,且能避免光学膜边上出现光晕现象。于一些实施例中,除了支持显示面板的作用以外,铁制的支持部还能进一步增加支持部的强度,并减小显示模块的厚度。
虽然本发明已以较佳实施例揭示如上,然其并非用以限定本发明,任何本领域技术人员,在不脱离本发明的精神和范围内,当可作些许的修改和完善,因此本发明的保护范围当以权利要求书所界定的为准。

Claims (15)

1.一种背光结构,包括:
一背光单元,用于提供光源至一显示面板;以及
一壳体,具有一基座部及一支持部,该基座部围绕该背光单元,该支持部与该基座部连接且与部分的该背光单元重叠,该支持部用于支持该显示面板于该支持部上,
其中该支持部的一顶边与该支持部的一侧边形成L型,且该支持部配置于该基座部的外侧,且该显示面板的边缘位于该背光单元的边缘与该支持部的外边缘之间,
其中该基座部的一顶边与该支持部的该顶边位于该显示面板之下。
2.如权利要求1所述的背光结构,其特征在于,该支持部的上表面具有长方环型,且该支持部覆盖该背光单元的边。
3.如权利要求1所述的背光结构,其特征在于,该背光单元包括一光学膜,该背光单元的光线系从该光学膜射出,该光学膜具有多个边,该光学膜的边被该支持部所覆盖。
4.如权利要求3所述的背光结构,其特征在于,该背光单元还包括一导光板及一反射膜,该导光板设置于该光学膜及该反射膜之间。
5.如权利要求1所述的背光结构,其特征在于,该支持部是自该基座部的一侧边向内延伸。
6.如权利要求1所述的背光结构,其特征在于,该支持部是延伸自该基座部的该顶边。
7.一显示模块,包含:
一显示面板;
一背光单元,用于提供光源至该显示面板;以及
一壳体,具有一基座部及一支持部,该基座部围绕该背光单元,该支持部与该基座部连接且与部分的该背光单元重叠,该支持部用于支持该显示面板于该支持部上,
其中该支持部的一顶边与该支持部的一侧边形成L型,且该支持部配置於该基座部的外侧,且该显示面板的边缘是位于该背光单元的边缘与该支持部的外边缘之间,
其中该基座部的一顶边与该支持部的该顶边是位于该显示面板之下。
8.如权利要求7所述的显示模块,其特征在于,该支持部的上表面具有长方环型,且该支持部覆盖该背光单元的边。
9.如权利要求7所述的显示模块,其特征在于,该背光单元包括一光学膜,该背光单元的光线是从该光学膜射出,该光学膜具有多个边,该光学膜的边被该支持部所覆盖。
10.如权利要求9所述的显示模块,其特征在于,该背光单元还包括一导光板及一反射膜,该导光板还设置于该光学膜及该反射膜之间。
11.如权利要求7所述的显示模块,其特征在于,该支持部是自该基座部的一侧边向内延伸。
12.如权利要求7所述的显示模块,其特征在于,该支持部是延伸自该基座部的该顶边。
13.如权利要求7所述的显示模块,其特征在于,该显示面板是一液晶显示面板。
14.如权利要求7所述的显示模块,其特征在于,该显示面板是一触控面板。
15.一显示模块,包含:
一显示面板,该显示面板具有一有源区;
一背光单元,用于提供光源至该显示面板,且该背光单元包括一光学膜;以及
一壳体,具有一基座部及一支持部,该基座部围绕该背光单元,该支持部与该基座部连接且与部分的该背光单元重叠,该支持部配置于该基座部的外侧,该支持部用于支持该显示面板于该支持部上,
其中该有源区的边缘与该壳体的内边缘之间的间隔小于该光学膜与该壳体的重叠处,且该显示面板的边缘是位于该背光单元的边缘与该支持部的外边缘之间,
其中该基座部的一顶边与该支持部的一顶边是位于该显示面板之下。
