Abstract

背景技术
计算机可能遇到多种问题中的任何一种。示例包括硬件故障、软件错误、数据丢失等。常常迫使遇到此类问题的计算机用户求助于例如计算机制造商或信息技术人员。获得帮助以诊断并修复问题的过程是不方便且耗时的。

注释和命名
某些术语在以下说明书和权利要求书中自始至终用来指示特定系统组件。如本领域的技术人员将认识到的那样,计算机公司可以通过不同的名称来指示一个组件。本文献不意图区别在名称而不是功能方面不同的组件。在以下讨论和权利要求中,以开放的形式使用术语“包括”和“包含”,并因此应将其解释为意指“包括但不限于...”。并且,术语“耦合”或“耦联”意图意指间接、直接、光学或无线电连接。因此,如果第一设备耦合到第二设备,则连接可以是通过直接电连接、通过经由其它设备和连接的间接电连接、通过光电连接、或通过无线电气连接。

图1示出依照各实施例的计算机系统100。计算机系统100包括耦合到显示器104、键盘106和鼠标或其它类型的指点设备108的机箱102。机箱的前盖109包括至少两个用户控制机构(例如,按钮)。用户控制机构110是被用户用来在系统以其他方式被断电时开启系统的复位/接通电源按钮。用户控制机构110还可以用来使系统复位。依照各实施例,用户控制机构112是如下所述仅可用于发起用于用户的图形用户界面以随后发起系统诊断操作和/或恢复操作的专用控制机构。通过提供专用于此目的的用户控制机构,系统100提供用于用户发起此类操作的容易且易于接近的机构。
图2示出系统100的系统图。如所示,系统100包括耦合到桥接器122(例如,北桥)的存储器124和处理器120。桥接器122还耦合到另一桥接器130(例如,南桥),其又耦合到用户控制机构112、鼠标108、以及键盘106。桥接器130还耦合到一种或多种类型的非易失性存储器,诸如硬盘驱动器(HDD)126和只读存储器(ROM)128。ROM 128包括任何类型的ROM,诸如可编程只读存储器(PROM)、电可擦除可编程只读存储器(EEPROM)等。HDD 126包含操作系统(OS)127以及还有恢复代码146。
ROM 128包含基本输入输出系统(BIOS)140,其是提供对计算机的各种低级功能的访问并且还提供开电自检(POST)能力的可执行码。BIOS 140是当第一次对系统通电时在系统100中运行的第一批代码段之一。ROM 128还可以包含可由处理器120执行的图形用户界面(GUI)代码142和诊断代码144。在诸如图2的实施例之类的某些实施例中,GUI代码142和诊断代码144被存储在ROM 128中,但在其它实施例中,这样的代码142和144中的任一者或两者被存储在其它地方(例如,在HDD 126中或在单独的ROM设备中)。同样地,可以将恢复代码146存储在ROM 128中。可替换地,可以将GUI代码142实现为OS 127的一部分。此外还有,可以将下述GUI代码的功能实现为BIOS 140的一部分并且还有OS 127的一部分,或者不是BIOS140和OS 127的一部分,但仍然存储在ROM 128中和HDD 126中,以便在POST期间以及在OS 127的启动之后的运行时间期间执行。
用户控制机构112优选地连接到桥接器130的通用输入/输出(GPIO)终端。经由桥接器130,可以将用户控制机构112检测为被激活。在用户激活用户控制机构112时,系统管理中断(SMI)被断言,其促使处理器120停止其当前操作(如果有的话)并执行GUI代码142。在执行GUI代码142时,在显示器104上向用户提供图3的GUI 150。图3的GUI 150为用户提供一组选择,其包括例如用户选择要执行的计算机诊断操作或要执行的恢复操作的能力。热键与每个操作相关联。在图3的示例中,功能键F7与计算机诊断操作相关联。此外,功能键F11与恢复操作相关联。一旦图3的GUI 150被显示在显示器104上,则用户可以按下F7或F11功能键以根据需要激活计算机诊断或恢复操作。还可以按下第三选项(即退出(ESC)键)以控制返回到前一状态,亦即在由用户激活用户控制机构112时的系统100的状态。
可以通过用户在系统初始化(启动)期间或运行时间期间激活用户控制机构112来执行GUI代码142,亦即,即使计算机已通电且已被启动也是如此。由于可以在BIOS 140以及OS 127两者中实现GUI代码142的功能,所以用户可以在之前或之后访问GUI 150。
诊断代码144促使系统测试计算机系统100的一个或多个功能,诸如存储器,并返回测试结果以及系统的配置(例如,BIOS版本号、处理器的类型和速度、哪些端口被启用等)。恢复代码146促使系统恢复出厂时已安装好的OS或恢复备份OS图像。恢复代码146还可以创建操作系统和应用程序的图像的备份副本(如果有的话)以供将来用于恢复该图像。
在运行时间期间(在加载OS 127之后激活用户控制机构112),由存储在HDD 126上的GUI代码向用户显示图3的菜单。如果用户选择按下F7或F11,则GUI代码向用户呈现另一消息,其告知用户系统将关机并重启以运行诊断(如果已选择诊断选项),并且用户应遵循重启之后的指令。在重启时,GUI代码142(在ROM 128中)执行并再次向用户显示图3的GUI 150。再次地,如果用户期望在计算机系统上运行诊断,则用户将必须按下F7。

Claims (14)

1.一种计算机,包括:
机箱;
在所述机箱上提供的按钮;以及
存储器,其包含可执行代码;
其中,作为用户按下按钮的结果而使得执行所述可执行代码,所述代码使得向用户显示图形用户界面,为用户提供至少在计算机诊断操作和恢复操作之间进行选择的能力。
2.权利要求1的计算机,其中,所述按钮致力于专用于提供对所述图形用户界面的用户访问。
3.权利要求1的计算机,其中,所述存储器包括只读存储器。
4.权利要求1的计算机,其中,执行计算机诊断操作和恢复操作的代码在只读存储器中。
5.权利要求1的计算机,其中,即使计算机已被通电且已被启动,在用户按下按钮时也执行所述代码。
6.一种计算机,包括:
机箱;
在所述机箱上提供的按钮;以及
存储器,其包含可执行代码;
其中,在计算机已通电且已被启动时,作为用户按下按钮的结果而使得执行所述可执行代码,所述代码使得执行计算机诊断操作和恢复操作中的任何一个。
7.权利要求6的计算机,其中,所述代码使得向用户显示图形用户界面,为用户提供在所述计算机诊断恢复操作之间进行选择的能力。
8.权利要求7的计算机,其中,所述按钮致力于专用于提供对所述图形用户界面的用户访问。
9.权利要求6的计算机,其中,所述按钮致力于专用于促使执行所述计算机诊断和恢复操作中的任何一个。
10.权利要求6的计算机,其中,所述存储器包括只读存储器。
11.一种计算机实现方法,包括:
激活计算机的计算机机箱上的用户控制机构;以及
基于所述用户控制机构被激活,显示图形用户界面,其为用户提供至少在计算机诊断操作与恢复操作之间进行选择的能力。
12.权利要求11的方法,还包括:在用户在图形用户界面中选择计算机诊断操作时执行所述计算机诊断操作。
13.权利要求11的方法,还包括:在用户在图形用户界面中选择恢复操作时执行所述恢复操作。
14.权利要求11的方法,其中,激活用户控制机构在计算机已被通电并被初始化时发生。
