Abstract

Description
本发明总的说来涉及交互式教育与娱乐系统,尤其是涉及用于在一个远处的播出位置将视频信号进行数据编码、在一个接收位置将该信号译码并就地传送这些数据去控制一个或多个交互式设备的方法和装置。在置于电视观众家中的玩具的电视程序控制部分,将描述本发明的最佳实施例。
视频文本系统能够通过普通的广播频道提供自远端电视播出位置到家庭电视观众的数据通讯,这已成为公知。一种这样的视频文本系统可以为听力减弱者提供有声节目的闭路字幕,其中的解释文本在光栅扫描过程的垂直同步间隔之间进行传递。只有专门装备了译码器的电视机才能显示出字幕,并且视频文本的显示与电视机的光栅扫描电路的同步需要对译码器与电视机进行实际上的相互连接,例如天线连接器。通常,这里需要付一笔预定费的。
试图提供能够进行普及的、视频内的数据通讯的系统只取得了初步的成功。这是因为频段内的普通的信号发送会破坏电视机的视频图象。例如,当
数据与象素信息在同一视频场或帧中混合时,它们在空间上被分隔开,从而使得一个光敏检波器能够无阻碍地监测数据编码子区段。典型地,这种空间上的分隔是通过确定一个或多个单元来实现的,其中的每一个单元最初是空的,然后用表示二进制编码数据的高亮度和低亮度区域重新编程。
由于电视节目的有效观看区域依赖于这种数据单元的尺寸大小、数量和编码,所以该观看区域或多或少受到不利的影响。这种视频数据通讯系统不适于采用普通的广播频道,在这些广播频道内,收费的和不收费的电视接收机将同样显示象素和数据的合成信息。在不收费的电视机屏幕或在当时尚未安装光敏检波器的收费电视机屏幕上出现的视觉混杂信号很可能会引起用户的抱怨和联邦电视委员会(FCC)(美国)的限制。
在电视观看区域内,用于在电视播出期间,向远处的接收机作数据通讯的数据单元的这种可视编码的一个例子是№.4613904美国专利,该专利于1986年9月23日授与芦里(Lurie)。根据该专利的揭示,一个可视的频道识别滚动条形码(rollingbar code)用电视播出信号传输且在接收电视屏幕上的选择的位置上显示。一个固定在电视机表面的、有滚动条形码在特定区域中显示的光敏检测装置,在预定时间期间检测电视接收的是哪一个频道,该频道信息例如为列出清单或检查目的而贮存在中央处理器所使用的内存中。根据该系统,条形码可视地被编码且它代替正常的节目内容,否则该正常节目内容在电视的被选定区域中将是可见的。而且,该光敏检测装置粘附于电视屏幕本身,这样,对电视节目观看性能会产生极不利的影响。
于是,提供一种具有单工数据通讯能力的、能容忍光栅时基误差、并且不需和电视机实现电连接的交互式视频系统,就成为人们梦寐以求的。这样的一个系统应当能以一个足以控制交互式机电设备(例如,一个动作玩具)的速度进行通讯,从而能够实时响应电视节目故事情节发展。这种系统更为可取的是可以与普通的电视广播、接收和录相设备以及频道相兼容。接收设备即使在使用时也只有极短的启动时间和障碍,或者根本没有启动时间和障碍,并且应该是很顺利的。或许最为重要的是,这种系统不会过分地给那些不总使用交互式电视机的观众带来麻烦和扰乱。
因此,本发明的主要目的就是,提供一种能够使一个远端的视频广播以无线的方式与一个可购买到的教育或娱乐设备发生相互作用的视频系统。本发明的其它重要目的包括以下内容:
(1)提供一种可与普通的广播设备和频道以及普通的电视接收、录相和放相系统(包括频道受到限制的家庭录放系统)相兼容的交互式电视系统;
(2)提供一种如所描述的可将节目的视频和音频干扰减至最小的系统;
(3)提供一种在一个电视节目图象的观看区域内进行二进制按阈值编码的方法,这种编码过程对电视观众来说基本上是看不见的。
(4)提供一种易于自由安装和操作的交互式电视系统;
(5)提供允许使用者实时变换电视节目的教育和娱乐装置;
(6)提供一种对预先记录的视频广播数据进行按阈值数字化编码的方法;
(7)提供一种通过在数据编码前、从视频输入到编码装置的数据中、基本上是不可见地除去虚假数据来简化译码器的方法;
(8)提供一种不和电视机进行电连接并且可与一个或多个可购到的教育或娱乐设备进行通讯的交互式视频装置;
(9)提供一种使用方便、可靠和廉价的交互式视频系统。
本发明所述的方法和装置使得交互式设备的远距离控制能够通过播出合成视频信息靠近普通的电视接收机。该方法包括,通过按阈值的亮度和/或色度调制产生一个含有节目内容和控制数据的合成视频信号;播送该信号到电视机;由电视机接收该信号;在电视机处检波该调制信号,以解调出控制数据;以及,就地传送该控制数据以使得在传送范围内的娱乐、教育设备能以一个预定的方式响应节目内容。该远端控制装置包括产生含有控制数据的信号的装置;产生含有视频节目的信号的装置;用于通过控制数据信号按时间关系调制视频节目信号的装置,由此即在电视机屏幕的至少一个预定的观看区域产生了一个可调制检波的控制数据副载波;在电视机处用于在观看区域检波这样的调制以产生一个控制数据序列的装置;以及按预定的对控制数
据序列的响应用于控制至少一个娱乐、教育或其它设备的装置。
本发明的数据编码方法包括在水平线速率的倍频和次倍频处调制一个视频信号,以产生一个细小的视频副载波。虽然调制是在电视机屏幕的观看区域进行的,但它对观众来说基本上仍然是看不见的,这是由于它的强度比较低、它的相对于水平线速率的时间关系以及人眼的固有的综合和分辨特性产生的结果。为了保证数据通讯的完整性,同时限制译码装置对用户的价格,在本发明的最佳实施例中提高了通讯的信噪比,这种提高是通过当二进制0被编码时由数据编码器除去表征数据的副载波成分、并且在二进制1被编码时增加一个副载波(或相反)得以实现的。本领域的技术人员将会意识到,一个或多个这样的副载波可以被数据调制,从而可以按串行或并行、或按多种方式来传送信息,其中包括(但不限于此):脉冲调制(PM)、相位调制(PM)、振幅调制(AM)、频率调制(FM)、时间或脉冲间隔调制(PIM)、频移键控(FSM)、归零法(RZ)、不归零法(NRZ)、或任何其它多种时空调制和编码技术。
在本发明的最佳实施例中,交互式视频装置采用一个光学变换器或光敏二极管的形式,该光学变换器对准电视机屏幕并通过一对绞合的电缆与一个设置在附近的紧凑的以电池供电的接收机/发射机设备相连接。接收机电路通过对被调制的视频图象有视频副载波进行检波并产生一个表征控制数据的位串序列信号来重现该控制数据。发射机电路通过重构的控制数据对一个红外(IR)载波进行振幅调制并驱动一个红外发光二极管(IRED)阵列。一个或多个也许是分别购买的交互式玩具,经过对载波进行检波,对控制数据内的指令字段进行译码,就会产生一个或多个响应动作。
在最佳实施例的一个建议的改进中,一个能截取无线电频率(RF)的电磁波辐射并能将其耦合到普通的接收机电路的天线代替了最佳实施例的光学变换器和绞合电缆。我们已经发现,通过正在显示这里所述的合成视频信号的电视的光栅扫描电路就能产生一个虽听不到但可检波的数据调制视频副载波的低频RF人工制造的信号。假如限制范围略微再多些,即必须把天线安装在电视机前面的几英尺距离内,由于无线电频率的辐射的能级相当低,所以该另一个实施例也具有某些优点:可将天线放置在更靠近电视机屏幕处,这是因为它根本不需要观看场地的缘故;天线对来自假的可见光源的干扰(例如,由变阻器控制的调光器/开关产生的60赫芝的频率干扰)是较为不灵敏的。
这样,就实现了本发明的各个目的。在电视机的一个观看区域内的按阈值的亮度调制使得该处被编码的数据能够被检波出来,而调制对电视机观众来说是看不见的。从一个距离范围并在一个角度范围内随意“对准”电视机屏幕的光学变换器,半刚性地从接收机/发射机设备伸出,该光学变换器也可以单独地被固定到电视接收机一侧,因此就避开了通常需要的内部连接。通过在播出前让数据编码器除掉视频特性(换言之,可理解为视频数据),使得检波器或译码器得到简化,并且使数据通讯具有更高的可靠性。在接收机/发射机设备和设置在家庭中的交互式设备之间的红外传输是无线的,并且是听不见的,而且不会给交互式视频装置的使用者或非交互式视频装置的使用者带来麻烦。对具有一个二进制数据的位串序列的视频图象进行有选择性的顺序的字段编码,将能得到一个足以在视频节目文本之内或之外对多个交互式设备进行实时控制的数据速率。在像这样被控制的交互式设备内的奇偶检验误差检测逻辑电路确保了数据的完整性,从而使交互式设备能够按预定的方式可靠的动作。本设备的电路使用普通的逻辑电路和制作方法,其中包括了超大规格集成电路(VLSI),因此进一步提高了系统的可靠性并降低了系统的成本。

在对本发明最佳实施例提出的一个改进的方案中,变换器16的形式可以是多种常用射频天线中的任何一种形式,这些天线能把从电视屏幕14b发射出的低水平射频电磁辐射耦合到接收机/发射机装置20。为了简洁和清楚起见,可以将图1看作是还表示这个不同的改进方案,唯一的差别在于,直接用一根硬导线代替光敏二极管18和双绞电缆18a,其位置和取向类似,只是要确定该导线的尺寸和形状使其能提供足够大的射频灵敏度(这是众所周知的技术)。同时,最佳实施例中的光敏二极管18可以放在距电视屏幕14b相当大的一个距离上,但最好大于6英寸,但所建议的改进方案的天线的有效范围更小、更靠近,即天线最好放在电视屏幕的几英尺范围内但并不和屏幕接触。
下面转到图2,其中图示出在图1的观看区14c内对数据进行编码的新方法。详图A表示在没有亮度调制情况下的特征区14d;详图B以大大放大了的形式表示在存在亮度调制的情况下的特征区14d。为清楚起见并且受到制图技术的限制,在所示的详图A和B中的水平扫描线间的垂直空间距离被大大地夸大了,而且亮度调制也极大地夸大了。但这些图被认为是指示出这里所建议的新的亮度调制方法。
在详图A中,用诸如线40表示较低亮度的水平扫描线,用诸如线42表示较高亮度的水平扫描线。按这种方法,诸如在图1的区14d中所示的高亮度特性就和图1和图2中示出的移动画面的正常亮度背景区形成了反差。应该理解,为了便于说
明而选择的线宽仅仅是典型的情况下,一般不代表在观看区14c内按这个比例可看见的真正扫描线的宽度。参照图2可以看出,详图A和B中的水平线是不交叉的,因此代表了在一个场内的扫描线,而不是交叉线的画面。通过调制连续不断的场中的相间扫描线,就可以对数据进行编码,从而就可以按电视的场频来进行传送,例如按美国电视系统委员会(NTSC)的电视播送的场频:60赫芝。
详图B图示出亮度调制如详图A所示的观看区14c在区14d中得到效果。通过在观看区14c内交替地提高和降低相邻的水平扫描线的亮度,就能产生可用光电装置检波的一个视频副载波,同时还保持了观看区14c内的各象素之间的空间关系、观看区14c的亮度以及观看区14c内的较高和较低亮度之间的对比度。这样,背景现在就包含了分别被提高和降低了亮度的水平扫描线44和46。这就是说,曲线44表示的被提高了亮度的扫描线的亮度水平略高于详图A中的扫描线40的亮度水平,相应地,由线46表示的另一些扫描线的亮度水平和详图A中相应的扫描线相比略低些。和详图A的较高亮度扫描线42相对应的详图B的扫描线是被提高了亮度的扫描线,如48,以及被降低了亮度的扫描线,如50。
如图2所示,能够用下边将要扫描的检波器去检波和译码按本发明的最佳方法进行编码的二进制数据的亮度调制占如详图A所示的水平扫描线的正常亮度水平的极小的百分数。虽然这种调制在详图B内被夸大(并且用线的宽度表示,而不用线的强度调制表示),但为了进行说明,从详图A和B显然可见,在观看区14c内的视频特性和背景之间的总平均亮度以及它们之间的对比度都被保持住了。
现在集中讨论图2的区域52,54,很显然,即使存在可对二进制的0或1进行编码的亮度调制,在观看区14c的一个任意小的区域也能保持各象素之间的空间关系。例如,即使将区域52,54减少到仅包括观看区14c的两个相邻的水平扫描线,区域54内的总亮度也会和相应的区域52中的总亮度相同。这是凭借本发明的新的隔行比例调制方案的结果,在此方案中,提高一根扫描线亮度的百分数等于降低相邻扫描线亮度的百分数。本领域的专业人员将会理解,对于色度信号也可以使用相同的方法来产生一个可检波的、(但是要按阈值的),数据调制的色度副载波。
重要的是,在仅由图2所示的真正视频图象的一个场内的水平扫描线靠的较近、因此电视机14的观众基本上看不见由隔行亮度调制产生的任何粗糙现象,在本发明最佳方法的实践中,尽管观众实际上看不见但可由光电装置检波的峰-峰百分数调制大约是10%调制,或者小于这里图示的表观调制的一半。
应该理解,上边刚刚描述过的隔行比例调制方案是在本发明的范围内许多按阈值的数据编码方法中的唯一的一个。显然,对相邻的两根、三根、等水平扫描线可交替按比例地进行亮度调制,同时仍能保持观看区14c内视频特性和背景的总亮度以及它们之间的对比度。如参照图3和图5将要描述的,各种滤波器和延迟线的周期和频率的相应的变化都需适应对该调制方案的这种改进。还应理解,在电视机14的观看区14c中进行按阈值的调制使多个副载波同时存在于其间。按这种方式,可在一个视频场内将多于一个的二进制数据位传递到变换器16,并由变换器16检波,从而得到一个大于电视场频的数据速率。得到较高数据速率的另一个方法是,将观看区14c分成多个区域,按阈值调制其中的每一个区域,从而就可以对一个或多个二进制数据位进行编码。可将多个诸如变换器16的变换器“对准”这些区域,响应于这些变换器的一个检波器电路可以检波和译码同时输给电视机的二进制数据。
下面转向图3,其中描述了能够对自电视机14至交互式玩具34的二进制代码数据进行检波、译码和发射的接收机/发射机电路的方块图。检波装置包括:“对准”屏幕14b的变换器16;诸如二极管18之类的光敏二极管,它经过电缆18a把它的“视野”范围内的光耦合到一个检波器或接收机电路;以及一个接收机电路56,它能产生一个控制数据序列,用于控制一个交互式设备。接收机电路56分析能量范围为7.867千赫左右的电信号,该能量范围是在一个场内NTSC标称的(彩色)水平线频率的一半,因此也就是在电视屏幕观看区14c内进行亮度调制的频率。在这个频率范围内存在亮度调制的情况下,接收机电路56的输出表示为一个二进制的1或0,它们表示由(例如)一个
交互式设备企图要使用的控制数据的存在和方向。
接收机电路56包括放大器58,其增益由反馈电阻R1决定,增益数值由公知的方法决定;两个串连的带通滤波器/放大器60,62传递信号并略加放大,能量范围约7.867千赫,每一个的选择性或Q值约为10;全波整流器64的输出通过电容C进行平滑;电平比较器66将整流器64的平滑输出和一个预定的参考电压进行比较,以便决定7.867千赫的能量是否是实际上被编码的数据,而不是偶然的视频噪声。应该理解,可将滤波器/放大器60,62组合成一级有类似增益和选择性的放大器。
可以认为电平比较器66的增益高但动态范围有限,比较器66在对整流64的平滑输出进行比较时,比较的时间周期最好大于几个水平扫描线所需的时间周期,这样就能保证,在恰好具有不同亮度的水平扫描线(例如一个视频图象的高、低亮度之间的水平边界)的一个场内,不出现存在编码数据的虚假显示。在最佳实施例内,比较器66处于工作状态的时间周期近似等于电视机14的光栅扫描电路穿行15个水平扫描线所需的时间。比较器66的输出是双稳态的,第一个状态是在最好大于1毫秒的时间间隔内的有效状态(和存在亮度调制相对应),在所有其它时间都是第二无效状态。这样,检波装置通过连续监视电视机14的观看区14c内的亮度调制就产生了一个控制数据序列。
很清楚,可以将带通滤波器/放大器60,62集中在除7.867千赫以外的其它一些频率上以便和对数据进行编码的亮度调制频率相对应。还应该明白,在本发明的构思范围内还可以提供多个检波装置,其中的每一个检波装置都能够在表示多个二进制数据位的不同频率范围内检波亮度调制。
还要参照图3,由图可见,用于使控制数据和一个交互式设备进行无线通讯的装置包括一个红外调制器68,它用比较器66的双稳态输出去调制一个32千赫的载波,并且驱动一个红外发射二极管阵列,在最佳实施例中该阵列包括三个红外发射二极管26,28,30。红外发射二极管26,28,30被装在印刷电路板22上并由前面板24支撑(参照图1),它们一般按点划线32a,32b,32c的方向发射红外线。应该明白,该载波可以具有任何一个频率,但最好高于声频范围,这样就能避开不期望的声耦合,并且最好和其它设备(例如,无线操作电视机的遥控设备)的载波频率区别开来。
显然,如图3所示的接收机/发射机电路不需要和电视机14的光栅扫描时间同步。它们不需要和电视机14或天线14a进行电连接。更加清楚的是,在最佳实施例中设备20的接收机/发射机电路是电池供电的,因此不必供给交流电。只要在观看区14c中的任何地方存在由变换器16耦合到接收机电路56的、合适频率下的按阈值亮度调制,就能使设备20内的电路区分开控制数据和随机的视频图象。这样,本发明就允许以大于、等于或小于普通电视机场频的数据速率进行按阈值的频段内的数据通讯,而不必进行内部的或外部的相互连接。
本专业的技术人员将会理解,按照对本发明最佳实施例的一个被建议的改进方案,当用一个天线(而不是用光敏二极管)将数据调制的视频副载波耦合到接收机/发射机20时,对接收机电路56的改动仅在于,到缓冲放大器58的输入信号是由天线接收到的信号,而不是由光敏二极管18产生的信号,并且众所周知的是,对滤波器/放大器60,62的增益和选择性和/或电平比较器66的参考电压可按期望的大小进行一些微小的调整。
现在转向图4,其中说明了在一个诸如汽车34之类的交互式玩具内的接收机电路。有选择性的入射到包括光敏二极管36的内的红外光敏装置的红外光能量产生一个信号,该信号被输送至载波检波装置,或者送至通常在无线遥控电视机中使用的那种类型的常用红外前置放大器电路。一般来说,红外前置放大器70包括一个缓冲放大器72、转向红外调制器68载波频率的放大器74、全波整流器76和电平比较器78。前置放大器70把入射到光敏二极管36的、幅度调制的32千赫红外能量转换成一个被解调的数字信号。该数字信号表示在电视机14中被作为亮度调制检波出来的位串数据,应将其理解为具有一个归零的(RZ)二进制代码格式。换言之,表示该数据的那些1和0按时间被零或无效周期分割开,在这些无效周期期间比较器78的数字输出水平按照高-真转换法(high-true convention)可能是逻辑0。
在最佳实施例中,按异步的或开始/停止方式,将由亮度调制编码的、用于向电视机14播送
的控制数据格式化。按这个众所周知的、与通用的异步接收机/发射机(UART)芯片以及通讯线监测与数据处理设备兼容的格式,该控制数据可以被表示为在一个开始位之后有5至8位代码,后边最好再接一个奇偶校验位和一个停止位。尽管在本发明的最佳实施例中数据字段长度是5位并且使用奇偶校验位来保证数据的完整性,但应该知道,在控制数据中可以使用任何预定数目和安排方式的位。
还应理解,在代表用于激励一个交互式设备的命令/地址信息的数据字段内,可用各种方式对命令/地址信息进行编码。在最佳实施例中,5个数据位的头三位总是二进制1,其余两位留待按下述方式传送预定的命令至一个交互式设备之用。
锁存/译码逻辑电路80对代表一个归零的二进制代码的控制数据序列的比较器78的数字输出进行锁存、确认和译码,逻辑电路80按例如60赫的数据速率计时。当包括具有预定逻辑电平的起始位、奇偶校验位和停止位的连续位被定时送入一个控制器或锁存/译码逻辑电路80时,该控制数据被作为含有命令/地址信息的数据而得到确认。当这些数据被确认是由一个起始位和一个停止位准确构成的并且具有正确的奇偶校验,则允许该5位命令/地址信息进入总线82,总线82通向一个交互式设备(例如汽车34)的各个控制点。
应该知道,可以用一系列公知的数字逻辑电路中的任何一个来实施锁存/译码逻辑电路80。例如,可以使用一个移位寄存器来累积连续的控制数据位,并且可以使用任何一种时钟恢复方案来确定一个信号,该信号的边沿能够把控制数据的连续位定时送入该移位寄存器。或者例如,可以例如使用一个单稳多谐振荡器将比较器78的输出反相并展宽至大于1/2位的时间,通过这种办法并且通过提供一个速率等于16倍数据速率的时钟,就可以使用通用异步接收机/发射机(UART)来实施该锁存/译码逻辑电路。应该理解,通过使用一个UART,可使二进制数据自动核实(能防止奇偶校验误差和帧误差)和锁存,从而能使这些数据并行地展现在数据总线上。在本发明的最佳实施例中,用常用的超大规格集成电路芯片来实施锁存/译码逻辑电路80和红外前置放大器70的电路,从而即大大降低了成本并提高了汽车34的可靠性。
应该理解,控制数据的地址/命令字段可能具有任何一种长度,并且可用许多方法对该字段进行编码,这取决于系统的要求,例如需要寻址的交互式设备有多少,每一个设备需要完成的命令有多少。另外还应知道,通过比较该地址字段和一个或多个预定值,在该地址字段和一个或多个这样的数值相等时,在用户的室内的具有地址响应装置的特定交互式设备就能够有选择性地启动由该命令字段表示的动作。例如,可以给地址/命令字段指定一个模式控制位,该控制位就将决定一个交互式设备是如何解释其余的那些位的。对于多数功能相对有限的交互式设备,大多数剩余位可留给地址,较少的剩余位留给命令对于少数功能较多的交互式设备,大多数剩余位可留给命令,较少的剩余位留给地址。按这种方式就可以设计一个非常灵活的系统,在这个系统中,就能在任何期望长度的一个地址/命令字段内设置不同数目和不同功能的交互式设备,并且该系统仅对预先规定的设备的特定地址产生响应。
在最佳实施例中,一个特定的交互式设备是硬连线的设备,以便按预定方式响应于所接收到的控制数据。很显然,这个特定的交互式设备是不能编程的,或者是不能由只读存贮器(ROM)控制的,因此比较容易改变这些响应。由一个或多个交互式设备启动的动作包括电机、方向盘、前灯、喇叭、对讲、或一系列其它的动作。对于一个不是动作玩具的交互式设备,连续的命令字段例如可以表示成美国信息交换标准码(ASCII)文本,可将该文本显示在一个顶部重叠的(lap-top)显示装置上,或者表示成可以用来控制一个乐器的乐器数字接口(MIDI)数据。因此,图1所示的特殊应用(其中的交互式设备是一玩具汽车34)仅仅是本发明的新式交互式视频设备的一系列应用当中的一个。
现在转向图5,一般用标号84表示用于产生一个数据编码的合成视频信号以便远距离播送的编码电路的最佳实施例,按方块图形式进行了说明。最好将编码电路84理解为被称之为视频处理放大器的一种改进形式,这种放大器通常被用在视频播送过程中以保证播送的质量、格式和其它的规则要求。首先描述与产生包含视频节目内容和控制数据
在内的合成视频信号有关的图中的那些部分。其次,描述一个视频预观电路,它能在数据编码前预先观看视频磁带以便确定亮度调制的节目内容是否合适。最后,描述一个数据消除电路,它能使一个先前用数据编码的视频磁带恢复到其被编码之前的状态。
标号86表示的是在本发明的最佳实施例中实施亮度调制、数据编码方案的那些功能方块,数据编码器86包括一个输入缓冲器88,用于产生一个节目信号的装置(未示出)将视频节目内容输送到该输入缓冲器88内。彩色分离器90提取普通的彩色合成信号中的色度分量,而同步分离器92提取其中的同步分量,仅让亮度分量抵达视频/数据混频器94。至混频器94的唯一的另一个输入(在消除数据开关打开的情况下)是与视频节目内容混合在一起的控制数据。
用于产生一个数据信号的装置,如计算机装置(未示出),按位的顺序将控制数据加到触发器96的D输入端,其中要被编码播送的表示成1或0的逻辑电平应和频率等于场频的垂直同步信号同步。触发器96的同步输出在98处和触发器100的50%占空度输出是“与”的关系,触发器100的触发输入是水平同步信号。消隐保护,或者消隐保护电路102将与门98的输出钳位,从而能保证正常的视频同步信号、水平同步信号、垂直同步信号和彩色基准(这些信号都是在逆程消隐期间被发送的)不受数据调制的扰动。电路102还能将与门98的输出偏移使其具有近似相等的正向和负向的变化范围,从而在控制数据是二进制1时能提供按比例被提高和被降低的亮度,并且在控制数据为二进制0时对混频器94的亮度输出没有贡献。
“白色”和“黑色”限幅器电路104能保证,在节目内容和控制数据在混频器94中混合以后,最大的“白色”水平和最小的“黑色”水平都不超过。第二个混频器106重新组合色度和亮度信号,结果在消隐加法器108中在水平回扫期间产生了一个被消隐的信号。
还要继续参照数据编码器86,所示电路的操作对本专业的技术人员来说是很容易理解的,其中包括:脉冲串放大器110、脉冲串相位调节112、彩色处理器114、钳位116、同步处理器118、钳位和消隐产生器120、末级放大器和混频器122、同步放大器和驱动器124(它产生一个称之为同步输出的信号)、和输出驱动器126(提供视频输出信号)。这样,数据编码器86就提供了一个按一定的时间关系用数据信号调制节目内容的装置,由此即产生了一个控制数据副载波。
还要进一步参照图5,其中详细描述了用标号128表示的视频预观器。预观器128的目的是提供一种一场一场地预先观看视频节目内容的方法,以便适应最佳方法的亮度调制的数据编码方案。预观器128能够识别一个连续不断的视频场序列,在围绕要进行编码的观看区的窗口内,该视频场序列中的每一个视频场都包含分别低于和高于一个相应阈值的高亮度和低亮度。类似地,预观器128也能够识别包含7.867千赫视频副载波的视频磁带,该副载波或者已被数据编码,或者包含可能作为编码数据被检波(实际尚未被检波)的视频特性。通过公知的场标记技术,被有效地数据调制的那些非常“白”的或非常“黑”的场,或者包含似乎是数据的视频特性的那些场,都可由这些场的时间代码序列数进行识别,并且可以作为数据编码的候选对象被切断。本专业技术人员应该认识到,在预观器128和编码器86之间加上一个适当的视频延迟,即一个大于预定的控制数据字长度的延迟,就能够在一次扫描或回放期间预先观看、标记和数据编码视频磁带。
通过参照视频预观器128首先就能看到,在最佳实施例中视频节目内容通过一个超声延迟线130被延迟了一个水平扫描线。然后,通过模拟反向器132将按上述产生的信号反相(假定第2检验开关闭合),并在可调的相位混合器134中与未经延迟的同一节目内容信号混合,可以认为这是一种双线相关器,一个250千赫的低通滤波器136除去水平延迟线130的不期望的高频的人为生成的信号。滤波器136的输出在138处被钳位(当垂直同步是有效时)和采样,这种钳位和采样是在被分析的场穿行该窗口部分期间进行的,因为这是令人特别感兴趣的唯一时间。在该窗口截取的被分析的场包含似乎是编码的数据时,7.867千赫带通滤波器142、全波整流器144、积分器146和参考电压比较器148就产生一个二进制信号。
应该理解,使用所谓“窗口”来开关门140并且通过钳位150来确定积分副载波的时间,上述的
窗口确定了将要用来混合视频节目内容和控制数据的观看区所包括的子区的边界。将会理解,通过组合水平同步、垂直同步和一个模式产生器就可以产生该窗口,它们可以通过一个可编程序只读存贮器(PROM)或其它的微控设备(未示出)被确定。尽管在最佳实施例中由窗口包围的子区是电视机14的整个观看区14C,但应该认识到,在本发明的构思中还可以确定比观看区14C小的合适的子区,并且通过使用一个斜波发生器使子区的边界相互掺合,从而可避免在观看区14C的未被调制的区域和已被调制的区域之间的交界处出现可觉察到的差别。很明显,亮度调制的子区域不需要是长方形或其它任何固定的形状,而是在一个模式产生器的伪随机控制下随机地确定。重要的是,本发明的最佳方法和实施例避开了由亮度调制电视机14的整个观看区14C而产生的边界问题。在152处对视频节目内容的信号进行钳位,并且经门154和156在窗口信号期间对该信号进行采样。门154的输出在158处被峰值检波,并且在160处被钳位(当垂直同步有效时),并且在162处和一个预定的“白色”最大亮度进行比较,由此即产生了一个“非常白”的信号,该信号表示是否在此子区域内亮度太高以致于不能按可检波的方式用数据进行亮度调制。相应地,门156的输出在164处被峰值检波,在166处被钳位(当垂直同步有效时),并且在168处和一个预定的“黑色”最小亮度进行比较以产生一个“非常黑”的信号,该信号表示在此子区域内的亮度是否太低以致于不能按可检波的方式被亮度调制。应该认识到,可以用计算机装置(未示出)来监视该“非常白”、“非常黑”的信号,从而将相应的子区域标记为或者是非常高或者是非常低的一个亮度。在数据编码过程中可以避开这样一些区域,可用控制数据对更加合适的、但完全是同时发生的一系列区域进行编码。在另一个实施例中,通过计算机装置,例如通过改变诸如增益和消隐脉冲电平等视频电平,来使这样一些区域变成适合的区域,而不是避开它们。
在最佳实施例中延迟线130采用大约为63.556微秒的延迟,这是NTSC的正常水平扫描线周期。它允许前一个水平扫描线瞬时亮度的相反的亮度在混频器134内被加到现行水平扫描线的瞬时亮度上,从而在相邻的两个水平扫描线之间产生了一个瞬时亮度差。在频率为7.867千赫处或其附近存在亮度调制的情况下,代表该差值的信号将包含一个可能在比较器148的输出端被检波的按阈值的副载波分量。应该明白,视频预观器128的数据显示电路在许多方面都类似于如图3所示的接收机电路56,它寻求在NTSC水平扫描线频率的一半处检测一个阈值视频能量电平。还应该明白,可用另外的装置,例如电荷耦合器件(CCD)移位寄存器,来实施视频延迟线130。
还要参照图5,应该注意的是,用标号170表示一个数据消除器。一般来说,数据消除器170被认为是一个三线相关器。当在三个相邻的水平扫描线之间存在7.867千赫的视频副载波时,数据消除器170就产生一个幅度相等的反向副载波,它被用在混频器94内(当消除数据开关关闭时)以便取消被检波的副载波。如图5所示,在数据消除器170被使用时,视频节目内容在被输入到数据编码器86和视频预观器128之前先要进行预处理,这样就提高了用于调制的区域的适应性并以基本上看不见的方式压缩了节目内容的本身。
视频输入是接到一个检验混频器172的,混频器172的另一个输入端一般是不用的(在第一个试验开关打开的情况下)。混频器172提供一个通过63.556微秒延迟线174被延迟了一个水平扫描线的视频信号。由于将会变得很清楚的原因,通过一个补偿延迟电路使该视频信号被进一步延迟,然后被输入到数据编码器86的缓冲器88并输入到预观器128的延迟线130。通过模拟反向器178使混频器172的输出反向,反向器178的电流输出在输入到混频器180之前受到电阻R1的限制。可以认为混频器180的第一个这种输入贡献了负四分之一的现行水平扫描线的瞬时亮度。延迟线174的电流输出受到电阻R2的限制,它是混频器180的第二个输入。可以认为混频器180的第二个输入贡献了前一个水平扫描线的瞬时亮度的正二分之一。延迟线174的输出还被输入到延迟线182,延迟线182的输出在184处被反向并且受到电阻R3的限制,由此即形成了混频器180的第三个输入。可以认为混频器180的这个最后一个输入贡献了在前一个水平扫描线还要前边的一个水平扫描线的瞬时亮度的负四分之一。
由此可见,混频器180的输出就代表了“视频
输入”的三个相邻的水平扫描线瞬时亮度的加权之和。在7.867千赫或其附近频率处存在视频副载波的情况下,混频器180的输出就代表了现行的水平扫描线的亮度调制分量的倒数。这是因为在一个数据编码的子区内在任何三个相邻的水平扫描线之间,1)一个扫描线的亮度被提高而另两个扫描线的亮度被降低,或者2)两个扫描线的亮度被提高而另一个扫描线的亮度被降低。因此三个相邻的水平扫描线肯定能对在“视频输入”处的一个副载波进行检波。应该认识到,混频器180的三个输入的加权和等于在任何两个相邻扫描线之间的亮度调制的平均幅度,而在没有亮度调制的情况下该加权和为零。
本专业人员将会理解,尽管已经发现视频预观器128的双线相关器和数据消除器170的三线相关器分别能检波和消除编码的数据或“视频输入”端的虚假数据信号,但是在本发明的构思中还存在另外一些实施方案。例如,可用n线相关器来增强视频预观器128检波被编码的数据的能力或数据消除器170抑制虚假数据的能力。简单地说,n个输入的混频器可以产生延迟时间递增的视频输入的一个加权和,因此使预观器128或消除器170实际上对“视频输入”能有一个较宽的n线观察角度。通过级联n个延迟线并且确定它们对加权和的贡献是正还是负,从而可使在不存在一个特定频率的副载波时该加权和为零,就可以增加三线相关器的抑制比,例如为36分贝。
本专业的技术人员还应明白,这些延迟线(例如延迟线174)在本发明的构思范围内可以采用除63.556微秒以外的其它数值。一般来说,对延迟线规定的延迟时间一般等于载波调制频率的倒数的一半,在这里所描述的最佳实施例正是这种情况。由于本发明的按阈值调制方法的普遍适用性,尽管其中的交替地按比例提高和降低相邻水平扫描线的亮度仅给出了一个实例,但副载波频率可以高于或低于7.867行赫,并且延迟线的延迟时间可以分别低于或高于视频延迟时间。
现在还要参照图5,由图可见,混频器180的输出在186处被滤波以消除不期望的高频分量,其中包括一般在3.579兆赫的NTSC色度副载波分量,并且该输出在188处反向以便经“消除数据”开关190供给视频混频器94。应该明白,由于混频器180通过滤波器186的输出存在固有的传播延迟,必须给延迟线174的输出施加一个补偿延迟以保证同步到达至视频/数据混合器94的输入端。如果“视频输入”包含对检波器而言可能会作为亮度调制出现的频视特性,即如果“视频输入”包含虚假的数据,或者“视频输入”实际上包含了编码数据,则通过将一个幅度等于调制分量但符号和调制分量相反的信号加入到混频器94内,就将有效地清除或取消现行水平扫描线的调制分量。这样,通过数据消除器170的操作使输出驱动器126的视频输出就只包含视频节目内容,而不是包含视频节目内容与一个亮度调制的副载波或可作为虚假数据被检波的视频特性的组合。
当期望通过例如预先观看视频磁带并监视“数据显示”端,从先前被数据编码的视频磁带中消除被确定的数据时,用户仅需要合上“消除数据”开关190、通过编码电路84处理该被编码的视频磁带,并且在一个空白的视频磁带上记录“视频输出”。按这个新方法,可以将通过本发明设备启动的数据编码过程颠倒过来以便将经这样处理过的视频磁带恢复到它们的原先未被编码的状态。通过同时考虑视频预观器128的编码电路84、数据编码器86和数据消除器170,就可以根据其子区的“数据显示”标记对视频磁带的主盘进行预观看、数据编码或恢复。应该理解,还可以将数据编码器86和数据消除器170同时使用,以便1)消除不期望的可作为虚假数据被检波的视频特性或者消除不期望的被调制的副载波,以及2)附加期望的被调制的副载波。
通过将一个7.867千赫的信号经第一检验开关192加入到混频器172的第二个输入端就能够检验视频预观器128和数据消除器170。显然,如果将一个7.867千赫的副载波输入到混频器172,则“数据显示”就要指示出该伪数据载波的存在。类似地,如果将一个7.867行赫的副载波输入到混频器172。并且如果“消除数据”开关190闭合,则由于数据消除器170的产生作用和混频器94的取消作用的差别,虽然“数据显示”有效但“视频输出”根本就不包含任何载波分量。应该认识到,如果第二检验开关194打开,视频预观器128就可能会指示出数据的存在,但由于它取决于单线检波(如接收机电路56所进行的那样)而不是双线相关,所以
预观器128可能会展示出一个低的信噪比。最后,第三个检验开关196通过将视频节目内容加到延迟线130(当开关196在其“断开”位置时)或通过将“视频输出”加到延迟线130(当开关196处在其“闭合”位置时),第三检验开关196允许对视频预观器128和数据消除器170进行回路反向检验。
按照这里所描述的设备就可以理解本发明的最佳方法。通过按照对电视观众来说基本上看不见调制的方式去亮度调制在一个电视机的观看区内的连续视频子区域的相间水平扫描线,通过例如使用编码电路84就可以产生包含视频节目内容和控制数据在内的一个合成的视频信号。通过检波视频副载波分量,例如,通过包括变换器16和检波器56的检波装置,就可以在电视机上或在其附近,按和光栅扫描时间成异步的方式再现该编码数据,以便用于(例如)控制一个交互式设备。
通过识别(即标记和记录)适于使用视频预观器128进行数据编码的一系列连续不断的字段,就能产生包含视频节目内容和控制数据的合成视频信号。例如,最好通过使用数据消除器170来消除视频副载波中的包含编码数据或虚假数据的字段,从而使这些字段适宜于例如使用数据编码器86的数据编码。例如通过使用可以利用“数据显示”、“太白”信号和“太黑”信号的计算机装置使一个二进制数据系列格式化,这种格式化就能使控制数据系列拟合在这个被识别的字段系列内。在产生了一个确定包围一个视频子区域的窗口的同步信号后,就可以根据这个同步信号在这个窗口内用控制数据去亮度调制节目内容,从而将节目内容和控制信号混合起来。应该理解,在这里描述的是预先观看、编码和恢复视频磁带的模拟装置,但是数字式装置的使用,例如在一个帧缓冲器内灰度代码的象素的操作,也在本发明的构思范围之内。
播送通过刚刚描述的这些步骤而产生的合成视频信号能使一台或多台电视机接收这个信号,使在电视机附近的检波装置能够再现该数据,并且能使一个红外调制器和红外发射二极管就地发送该数据,从而使交互式设备能响应于被数据编码的节目内容。在本发明的最佳实施例中,检波是通过该调制经例如变换器16就地最佳耦合到接收机电路而实现的,在这过程中将节目内容和控制数据区分开来。通过用控制数据幅度调制一个红外载波,可使控制数据在发射的范围内和交互式设备进行无声无线的通讯。
本发明所提供的优点对本专业技术人员来说应该是很清楚的。这里所公开的方法和设备能在整个常用的电视播送频道上进行按阈值的频段内的数据通讯,以备家庭电视观众附近一个场所之用。包括一个能自由地监视电视屏幕的节目观看区内的任何期望区域的光学变换器的检波装置,能够使接收机/发射机电路区分控制数据和随机的视频噪声,并且能够在其红外发射范围内就地发送控制数据至一个或多个交互式设备。对这样一些交互式设备可灵活地编程以便根据电视节目的故事情节的发展去启动预定的动作。该设备无需和电视接收机或天线进行电连接,并且能在电视观众的家里对交互式设备进行无线遥控。可被本发明的方法和装置遥控的交互式设备包括教学设备和娱乐设备。
本专业技术人员应该认识到,在本发明的构思范围内,可将对视频节目内容的按阈值的调制进行检波的装置置于一个可用手操作的探头内,该探头本身可能是由控制数据遥控的交互式设备,这样就排除了对重新产生的控制数据要进行就地通讯的要求。还应该明白,在本发明的构思范围内,控制数据与交互式设备的通讯可以用除红外装置以外的装置来实现,例如,放在电视机附近的一个射频发射机可以使控制数据和交互式设备内的一个射频接收机进行通讯,或者射频天线和装备有接收机的交互式设备,按照这里所建议的对最佳实施例的一个改进方案,可直接从电视机检波出射频辐射。
因此,虽然这里只描述了实施本发明的一个最佳方法、本发明设备的一个最佳实施例及其被建议的一个改进方案,但应该理解,可能存在落在本发明范围内的另外一些改进方案。
Claims (11)
1、一种用于产生含有视频节目内容和在远处电视屏幕上与正常的视频节目内容一起显示的控制数据的合成视频信号、其中该控制数据在远处电视机上被检测和译码以备用的方法,其特征在于,它包括下述步骤:
亮度调制相应于电视机观看区域的一个或多个视频区域,使这种亮度调制对电视机观众来说基本上是看不见的,由此,产生由按比例地和交替地升高和降低相邻的一条或多条水平扫描线组之间的亮度所表示的该信号的基本不可见的视频副载波成分,该成分包含该数据;及
在电视屏幕上或附近光电地检测该成分以再现该数据留待它用。
2、如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于,所述检测是通过将这种调制就地光学地耦合到接收机电路实现的,该电路具有分开节目内容与控制数据的装置。
3、如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于,所述检测是相对于电视机的光栅扫描时间异步地进行的。
4、如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于,所述的调制在每一个场内具有相间的水平扫描线。
5、如权利要求1所述的方法,其特征在于,它进一步包括下述步骤:在调制之前预先观察视频节目内容,以便至少选择一个适于数据编码的场,其中的调制是在这样一个被选的场上有选择性地进行的。
6、如权利要求4所述的方法,其特征在于,它进一步包括如下步骤:在调制前处理视频节目内容,以便增强至少一个场对调制的适应性,处理的方式要使这种增强对电视观众来说基本上是看不见的。
7、如权利要求6所述的方法,其特征在于,所述的处理包括清除视频特性的至少一个场,否则它作为这样一个视频副载波成分是可以检测的。
8、一种用于通过播送合成视频信息至远处电视机对交互式设备进行遥控的设备,所述合成视频信息包括用于在电视屏幕的选定的观看区域中可视显示的可视数据成分,在该区域中正常视频节目内容消失而编码的数据出现;所述设备包括:
用于产生包含视频节目的节目信号的装置;
用于产生包含控制数据的数据信号的装置;
邻近电视机的、用于在这样的观看区域中检测亮度调制以产生贮存在存贮装置中的控制数据序列的装置;
其特征在于,该设备进一步包括:
用于通过该数据信号按时间关系按阈值调制节目信号的装置,于是就在电视机一个或多个预定的观看区域中产生一个可作为数字调制被检测的控制数据副载波;该调制装置动作,按比例地、交替地增强和减弱在一条或多条水平扫描线组的预定观看区域中的亮度;及
在按预定的对该产生的控制数据序列的响应过程中,用于控制位于电视机附近的一个或多个交互设备的动作的控制装置。
9、如权利要求8所述的设备,其特征在于,其中的控制装置包括按无线方式发送该数据序列到至少一台交互式设备的装置。
10、如权利要求9所述的设备,其特征在于,其中的无线发送装置产生一数据调制红外副载波。
11、如权利要求10所述的设备,其特征在于,其中的发送装置在红外光谱内操作。
