互联网已成为娱乐和信息的传播源。大部分互联网内容被设计为通过网络浏览器进行访问,所以,难以通过大部分的缺少通常的计算机键盘的消费电子(CE)装置进行访问。结果,互联网通常被限制为在个人计算机(PC)上进行访问或通过在CE装置上的繁琐的接口访问。 
随着硬件和软件技术的发展,CE装置的功能变得更加强大。网络基础设施的发展和硬件的降价已增加具有联网能力的娱乐装置的利用率。很多用户正在设置包括有线电视机顶盒、数字电视机、家庭媒体服务器、数字音频播放器、个人视频记录器等的家庭网络。家庭网络用户还通过CE装置和PC来创建、存储和访问更多的数字内容。 
与联网的娱乐装置的出现同时进行的第二趋势是越来越多地使用用于创建和发表内容的互联网。更大的宽带传输率和存储器价格的降低使用户能够通过互联网移动诸如电视(TV)节目和完整长度电影的更大的媒体文件。

本发明提供用于促进通过诸如消费电子(CE)装置的电子装置访问信息的方法和系统。一个实施例涉及使家庭用户能够容易地寻找并访问与在CE装置上呈现的内容有关的互联网内容。一个示例使用户能够容易地寻找并访问与用户在电视上观看的节目有关的互联网内容。观看电视时,用户现在能够以“背靠式”起居室体验来访问在互联网上的相关信息和视频内容。 
在互联网上搜索信息通常涉及两个阶段:形成搜索查询,以及数据搜索和分析。形成查询涉及形成搜索查询,该搜索查询描述将被搜索的信息的类型。数据搜索和分析涉及根据如下的步骤解决搜索查询,所述步骤包括:识别潜在的数据源;通过搜索查询从这些源提取相关数据,然后汇总(收集)相关数据;识别以汇总的数据中的关联的形式的相关性,以使结果更具意义。

在一个示例中,客户模块64利用促进器24使用户能够使用简单直观的图形用户界面(GUI)设备从,例如互联网,获得期望的信息,包括: 
1.将支持信息搜索的功能映射到少量的按键(例如,作为当使用用于信息访问的DTV 30时接收用户输入的示例,将所述功能映射到TV遥控器31(图1)的少数按键)。

使用客户模块64,用户用最小的努力在可不具有键盘/鼠标的CE装置上能够选择、编辑或输入新的查询(例如,建议的关键词/种类)。具体地,促进器24建议以及显示查询,所述查询包括关于TV节目的关键词和关于这些关键词的信息种类。使用建议的关键词和种类作为搜索查询,用户通过简单地选择用于搜索的建议的查询通过其CE装置来无缝地浏览/搜索在互联网上可用的相关信息。促进器24识别很多相关的搜索查询,并允许用户编辑建议的查询或输入新的查询。促进器24随后获得用户感兴趣的信息并将这些信息呈现给用户。 
在图2示出的结构中,促进器24包括实现上述步骤的查询识别功能25和查询解决功能27。具体地,查询识别功能25识别用户感兴趣的潜在数据。查询解决功能27(例如,从局域源69和/或互联网源66)提取用户感兴趣的识别的潜在数据、汇总提取的数据并对汇总的数据进行关联以呈现给用户。下面将描述查询识别功能25和查询解决功能27的操作。 
在一个示例中,查询识别功能25基于用户的当前应用状态识别用户感兴趣的潜在数据。当前应用状态指的是用户在期望访问相关的互联网内容时使用的应用的状态。例如,如果用户在DTV 30上观看电视节目,则DTV已切换的频道和正被广播的节目构成应用状态。 
查询识别功能25识别通过应用使用/渲染的内容。然后,查询识别功能 25获得用于访问内容的元数据信息和/或其它相关联的数据,并识别可能表示用户感兴趣的数据的潜在的搜索查询。当用户访问已构成的可用元数据的内容时,查询识别功能25直接使用来自作为潜在的搜索查询的元数据的字段(field)/值(value)对(pair)。例如,如果用户收听艺术家“斯汀”的音乐专辑并表示对访问有关的内容感兴趣时,则查询识别功能25从专辑的元数据获得其后的字段(内容=“音乐专辑”&艺术家=“斯汀”)并使用这些字段,查询识别功能25推断用户可能对访问相同艺术家的更多的专辑感兴趣并作为搜索查询中的一个向用户建议(音乐专辑、音乐家、“斯汀”)。 
当用户访问诸如广播TV节目和DVD的内容时,查询识别功能25使用嵌入在内容流中的字幕数据(隐藏字幕)以识别潜在的搜索查询。该嵌入的字幕数据包含以关键词的形式的有用的信息。当用户观看TV节目并表示对访问相关的内容感兴趣时,查询识别功能25分析TV节目的字幕文本以识别重要的关键词并将其作为可能的搜索查询向用户提供。 
查询识别功能25可被实现在,例如独立模块、装置20(例如机顶盒)或CE装置30(例如DTV)中。用户界面(UI)可被显示在能够显示信息的网络/系统10中的装置(例如,CE装置30)上。下面将描述查询分析功能25利用自然语言处理(NLP)来分析隐藏字幕并从字幕识别关键词以识别关键词并将该关键词建议为可能的搜索关键词的示例。 
在广播之前,内容提供商已将TV节目的隐藏字幕(CC)嵌入在TV信号中。这些字幕主要有益于听力障碍。不是直接从这些文本提取有用的信息。字幕通常不包括任何情况信息,从而排除基于情况信息提取专有名词的任何试图。另外,这些字幕经常是不合语法(例如,由于内容的口语习惯)、被较差的断句,并可具有打字稿。由于这些限制,所以通常的用于文本文件的关键词提取技术可不适用于隐藏字幕文本。另外,隐藏字幕的内容高度地依赖节目的种类。新闻节目的字幕是高含量(high-content)和真实的,而连续剧的字幕通常是低含量并充满俚语。图4示出根据本发明实施例的隐藏字幕分析器(closed caption analyzer,CCA)700。CCA使用NLP技术从节目的隐藏字幕提取搜索查询并提取电子节目指南(EPG)信息75以定制用于不同的节目种类的提取机制。 
CCA 70实时地操作广播信号并处理输入到系统的隐藏字幕文本74的稳定流。CCA在输入文本流上保持两个历史窗口(图5)。较小的窗口,即最新 窗口,包括最后N(在本例中N=5)个语句(Si);较大的节目宽度窗口覆盖所有TV节目/当前新闻内容/当前节目片段等。仅从节目宽度窗口提取的关键词被存储和指出以用于推荐。另外,从最新窗口提取的关键词的排列高于其它,从而最新关键词出现在呈现给用户的关键词的列表的最顶部。只要节目或新闻内容改变(在美国通过隐藏字幕中的诸如“>>>”的特殊字符任意表示,或通过察看EPG和当前时间确定),两个窗口均被清除并重新开始。 
CC切分词器(Tokenizer)78接收CC文本74的流并将其分解为语句。执行该操作以保持文本的语法。标注器(tagger)73随后,例如使用Brill部分演讲标注(Brill 1992)对语句进行标注。标注器73分析语句并确定每个词在语句中如何使用。标注器73使用词汇规则将初始标签分配给在语句中的每个词,然后基于词出现的情境使用情境规则更新标签。情境规则对输入语句的语法敏感。非语法或不完整的语句可导致在语句中的词的不正确的标注。

每个提取策略(Pe)与在R中的规则的子集相应。该映射可被预设置, 或可被获得。映射本质上定义用于从具体的节目的种类(类型)提取的关键词76的模式的类型。在一个示例中,通过进行小型的用户研究来可确定映射,所述研究涉及被要求标记关键字的四个对象,该关键字是他们从四种类型的样本节目的CC抄本中搜索喜欢搜索的关键字,所述四种类型的样本节目是新闻、连续剧、谈话节目和真人秀(reality TV)。然后,使用Brill标注器来标注所述抄本,标记的关键词的标签被提取为规则(例如,如果标记了新闻节目中的“Global Warming”,以及词被标注为“Global<ADJ>Warming<NOUN>”,则之后“<ADJ><NOUN>”被提取为用于“新闻”类型的规则)。(基于频率和阈值)排第一的规则被用作形成用于该种类节目的提取策略的规则,用于所有种类的节目的所有规则的结合形成R。该操作促进规则和提取策略的可复用性。规则引擎79对从标注器73接收的文本应用提取策略,并从该文本提取关键词。然后,基于这些关键词是否出现在最新窗口来对这些关键词进行加权。然后,加权的关键词被排序并呈现给用户。

查询解决功能27可被实现在,例如独立模块、装置20(例如机顶盒)或CE装置30(例如DTV)中。下面将描述查询解决功能27利用查询计划提取、汇总并关联数据的的示例执行。提供了基于XML执行计划,其对涉及搜索查询解决处理的步骤进行封装。执行计划包括一个或多个的计划步骤,每个计划步骤指定将被执行的任务(即,数据提取、汇总或关联)的种类。 
另外,提供了称为RuleLet的特殊类以执行在通常查询解决处理中的三个任务(即,数据提取、汇总或关联)。所述RuleLet是GetDataRuleLet、MergeDataRuleLet知GetContentNotInHomeRuleLet。GetDataRuleLet从不同的数据源获得数据,MergeDataRuleLet对从不同的数据源获得的数据进行合并,GetContentNotInHomeRuleLet(从不同的源提取的数据的集合中)识别对家庭装置不可用的数据/内容。 
计划步骤实质上指定将被执行的RuleLet和执行RuleLet所需的输入和输出参数的设置。在计划步骤中的具体字段包括将被执行的RuleLet的名称、RuleLet执行所需的输入数据、期望来自RuleLet的执行的输出类型以及期望 的输出数据(如果可应用)的范围。范围字段用于指定需要的数据在家庭(“局域,,)中可用还是在“互联网”上可用。为了迎合不同种类的搜索查询,保持包含不同种类的计划的计划库。当用户选择搜索查询时,查询解决功能27基于用户的情境(例如,如果用户在观看TV节目、DVD或音乐电视,或收听音乐专辑)识别计划。 
下面结合实例执行计划描述搜索场景中的执行计划的使用。搜索场景涉及用户在TV上观看名称为“击鼓技术”的广播纪录片节目的情况。当用户表现出对访问相关的互联网内容感兴趣时,搜索促进器24(使用上述的技术)通过如下的计划步骤从节目的隐藏字幕识别并显示潜在的搜索查询:获得关于用户正在观看的TV节目的EPG,从先前步骤获得的EPG信息获得关键词;获得TV节目的类型;基于类型从TV节目的隐藏字幕获得重要的关键词;对从EPG和隐藏字幕识别的关键词进行合并。所述计划的XML版本包括:

DE 86管理插件88并使用最小的代码变化来允许添加或移除新插件88,并提供用于更高等级部件的应用程序接口以使用插件。 
作为根据本发明的通过CSF 82的搜索促进处理的示例,其中,TV观众所述方式来访问互联网。用户特蕾莎在她的TV上观看关于“击鼓技术”的TV节目并对视频感兴趣。她希望学习更多关于在节目中讨论的主题,特别是,关于刚刚提起的“多重节奏的击鼓”。她按下在她的TV遥控器31上的按钮并寻找关于正观看的节目的许多信息。在客户模块屏幕上的UI图形示出两个菜单。菜单64A提供(CSF 82的查询识别功能收集的)关于TV节目的关键词的列表,并且第一个关键词“多重节奏的击鼓”被加亮。另一个菜单64B示出(CSF 82的查询识别功能收集的)包括网络链接的搜索结果的列表,所述网络链接包含与关键词“多重节奏的击鼓”有关的信息和/或视频。特蕾莎注意到在该菜单上的第二个链接是“如何”视频。使用在她的遥控器上的导航按钮,她加亮该链接,随后按下“进入”按钮以选择视频并开始观看该视频。 
上述的情景示出如下的本质特点:第一,用户在任何时候不需要输入任何文本或查询;通过在传统的遥控器上的导航按钮来进行交互。第二,由于不需要提供搜索页或输入搜索术语,所以用户能够通过按下少数按钮来访问期望的相关互联网信息。在该情境中,用户的情境(正观看的节目)帮助将搜索聚焦到相关内容。 
将相关信息提供给在局域网(例如,家庭网络)上CE装置的用户的处理通常涉及: 
1.收集关于在局域网上用户的当前活动的信息(例如,听歌、观看TV节目); 
2.收集关于在局域网上当前用户活动的情境信息(例如,寻找歌或TV节目的元数据); 
3.从其它源(例如,在局域网上的装置)获得与在上述步骤中收集的信息相互关联的附加信息,和/或来自外部源(例如,互联网)的信息(例如,获得关于歌或TV节目的信息); 
4.识别在上述步骤中获得信息的相关性; 
5.使用相关性形成查询以搜索在局域和/或外部源(例如,互联网)中的信息;和 
6.将搜索结果作为关于当前用户活动的信息(即,用户感兴趣的信息)呈现给用户。 
可按以下示例方式中的一种或多中执行来识别相关性:(1)识别关于当前用户活动的信息与从局域源获得的相互关联的信息之间的相关性,(2)识别关于当前用户活动的信息与从外部源获得的相互关联的信息之间的相关性,和(3)识别关于当前用户活动的信息与从局域和外部源获得的相互关联的信息之间的相关性。 
为了将用户必须输入以接收关于当前用户活动的信息的按键的数量最小化,将支持信息搜索的功能映射到少数的键(例如,将搜索映射到遥控器的少数键)。然后,收集关于在CE装置上的当前用户活动的确定信息。该操作包括获得包含在媒体中的元数据(例如,包含在CD或DVD中的内容的长度和种类),仅通过内容渲染CE装置可访问所述媒体。 
所述处理还涉及获得嵌入在广播流中的信息(例如,对白字幕和隐藏字幕),仅通过接收/渲染CE装置可访问所述广播流。另外,收集关于已在家庭网络中存在的内容(例如,用户已拥有的斯汀的歌曲以及相应的元数据)的信息。收集在互联网上存在的相关的结构数据的另外信息(例如,从压缩盘数据库(CDDB)收集关于用户已拥有的歌曲的元数据)。从在互联网上存在的半结构化数据(例如,从互联网电影数据库(IMDB)和/或从相关的网页获得艺术家的传记)获得其它相关信息。从在互联网上存在的非结构化数据 (例如,载有关于在新闻中播报的主要事件的地点的地理、经济、政治和文化信息的网页的URL)收集另外相关的信息。 
收集/获得的信息定义手头信息。然后,当用户操作CE装置时,用户输入到CE装置的内容与手头信息相关联来自动地形成查询以搜索相关的信息。该操作最小化用户产生查询或使用键盘形成查询的需要。 
然后,从手头信息,将从互联网源提取的数据与从家庭网络内容提取的数据相关联以形成查询计划以细化用于精确搜索的查询。随后,无需请求用户的干涉而执行查询计划以搜索在外部网络(例如,互联网,其它源)上的查询。随后,查询执行结果以搜索结果的形式被呈现给用户。优选地,基于手头信息,不需要用户的干涉而从搜索结果选择最相关的信息以呈现给用户。因此,呈现给用户的信息包括如关于手头的信息的用户潜在的感兴趣的信息。 
促进用户的搜索的另一示例涉及:获得关于在局域网上当前用户活动的信息;获得关于在局域网上当前用户活动的情境信息;获得与情境信息和用户活动信息相互关联的附加信息;识别附加信息、情境信息和用户活动信息之间的相关性;使用相关性形成查询以搜索关于当前用户活动的信息。 
获得附加信息的步骤可包括从包括局域网的源和/或外部源获得与情境信息和用户活动信息相互关联的附加信息。识别相关性的步骤可包括识别关于当前用户活动的信息和从局域源获得的相互关联的信息之间的相关性。识别相关性的步骤可包括识别关于当前用户活动的信息和从外部源获得的相互关联的信息之间的相关性。识别相关性的步骤可包括识别关于当前用户活动的信息与从局域和外部源获得的相互关联的信息之间的相关性。 
形成查询包括无需用户干涉而自动地形成查询。执行查询以获得包括关于当前用户活动的信息的搜索结果。执行查询还可包括执行查询以搜索在局域网和/或外部源上的相关的信息。可在该阶段将搜索结果在装置(例如,CE装置)的用户界面上将结果呈现给用户。 
获得关于在局域网上当前用户活动的信息的步骤可包括从用户输入到装置中获得信息,或从在网络中运行的应用程序获得信息。获得附加信息的步骤可包括从外部结构化数据源获得附加信息。获得附加信息的步骤可包括从局域媒体内容源获得与用户兴趣相关的附加信息。 
获得附加信息的步骤可包括从外部未结构化数据源、从外部半结构化数据源或从外部广播数据源获得附加信息。 
获得关于在局域网上当前用户活动的情境信息的步骤可包括获得在局域网上可用的相关联的元数据。同样地,形成查询可包括使用关于在局域网上的内容的元数据以确定用于形成查询的情境。另外,确定用于形成查询的情境的步骤可包括:无需用户的干涉,使用关于在网络中的内容的元数据和来自在局域网上的应用程序的信息以确定用于形成查询的情境。查询可被用于在互联网上搜索关于当前用户活动或用户感兴趣的信息。同样地,上述的处理还可以改善CE装置的用户对互联网的访问。 
如本领域的技术人员所知,根据本发明的如上描述的上述示例结构可以作为逻辑电路、专用集成电路、固件等以多种方式实现,例如,处理器执行的程序指令、存储在计算机可用介质上的程序产品、计算机实现的方法。本发明参考其特定优选方案进行了非常详细地描述;但是,可以使用其它方案。因此,权利要求的精神和范围不应限制在在此包括的优选版本的描述。 

Claims (14)

1.一种促进电子装置的用户的信息搜索的方法,所述方法包括步骤:
获得关于在局域网上当前用户活动的情境信息;
基于所述获得的情境信息将用户感兴趣的潜在数据识别为查询以进行搜索;
提取与用户感兴趣的数据有关的数据;
收集提取的有关的数据;
对收集的提取的数据进行关联以检查所述数据之间的关联度,以在装置上呈现给用户,
基于所述获得的情境信息将用户感兴趣的潜在数据识别为查询以进行搜索的步骤包括:监控用户访问内容,选择用于信息提取的一组提取规则,基于选择的提取规则从用于内容的元数据提取关键信息,
其中,提取关键信息包括:从所述关键信息的文本提取关键词,所述关键词基于所述关键词最近是否出现而被加权。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,选择一组提取规则的步骤还包括步骤:基于内容的类型选择一组提取规则。
3.根据权利要求2所述的方法,其中,选择一组提取规则的步骤还包括步骤:基于内容的类型从规则库选择一组提取规则,其中,规则库包括用于提取不同关键词的规则的列表。
4.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,提取与用户感兴趣的数据有关的数据的步骤包括:基于感兴趣的潜在数据形成查询以搜索所述有关的数据。
5.根据权利要求4所述的方法还包括步骤:执行查询以在局域网和/或外部源上搜索涉及的信息。

8.一种用于促进电子装置的用户的信息搜索的设备,所述设备包括:
信息收集器,配置为获得关于在局域网上当前用户活动的情境信息;
识别器功能,配置为基于所述获得的情境信息将用户潜在感兴趣的数据识别为查询以进行搜索;
提取器,配置为提取与用户感兴趣的数据有关的数据;
收集器,配置为收集提取的有关的数据;,
关联器,对收集的提取的数据进行关联以检查所述数据之间的关联度,以在装置上呈现给用户,
其中,识别器功能还被配置为通过监控用户访问内容来识别用户感兴趣的潜在数据,选择用于信息提取的一组提取规则,和基于选择的提取规则从用于内容的元数据提取关键信息,
其中,提取关键信息包括:从所述关键信息的文本提取关键词,所述关键词基于所述关键词最近是否出现而被加权。
9.根据权利要求8所述的设备,其中,识别器功能被配置为基于内容类型选择一组提取规则。
10.根据权利要求9所述的设备,其中,识别器功能被配置为基于内容类型从规则库提取一组提取规则,其中,规则库包括用于提取不同关键词的规则的列表。
11.根据权利要求8所述的设备,其中,提取器还被配置为基于感兴趣的潜在数据通过形成查询来提取与用户感兴趣的数据有关的数据以搜索所述有关的数据。
