Abstract

技术领域
本发明涉及一种像素和使用该像素的有机发光显示器,更具体地讲,涉及一种能够补偿有机发光二极管的劣化的像素和使用该像素的有机发光显示器。
背景技术
近年来,已经做出了许多努力来开发重量比阴极射线管的重量轻并且体积比阴极射线管的体积小的各种平板显示器。平板显示器包括液晶显示器(LCD)、场发射显示器(FED)、等离子体显示面板(PDP)和有机发光显示器(OLED)等。
在平板显示器中,有机发光显示器使用有机发光二极管来显示图像,有机发光二极管利用电子和空穴的复合来产生光。这样的有机发光显示器的优点在于其具有快速的响应时间并且可以用低功耗来驱动。
图1是示意性地示出传统的有机发光显示器的像素4的电路图。
参照图1,传统的有机发光显示器的像素4包括有机发光二极管OLED和像素电路2,像素电路2连接到数据线Dm和扫描线Sn以控制有机发光二极管OELD。
有机发光二极管OLED的阳极连接到像素电路2,有机发光二极管OLED的阴极连接到第二电源ELVSS。这样的有机发光二极管OLED产生具有设定的(或预定的)亮度的光,所述亮度与从像素电路2供给的电流对应。
当将扫描信号供给到扫描线Sn时,像素电路2控制供给到有机发光二极管OLED的电流的量与供给到数据线Dm的数据信号对应。为此,像素电路2包括:第二晶体管M2,连接在第一电源ELVDD和有机发光二极管OLED之间;第一晶体管M1,连接在第二晶体管M2、数据线Dm和扫描线Sn之间;存储电容器Cst,连接在第二晶体管M2的栅电极和第二晶体管M2的第一电极之间。
第一晶体管M1的栅电极连接到扫描线Sn,第一晶体管M1的第一电极连接到数据线Dm。第一晶体管M1的第二电极连接到存储电容器Cst的一侧端。这里,第一晶体管M1的第一电极被设定成源电极或漏电极,第二电极被设定成与第一电极不同的另一电极。例如,当第一电极被设定成源电极时,第二电极被设定成漏电极。当将扫描信号供给到扫描线Sn时,连接到扫描线Sn和数据线Dm的第一晶体管M1导通,从而将从数据线Dm供给的数据信号供给到存储电容器Cst。此时,存储电容器Cst充有与数据信号对应的电压。
第二晶体管M2的栅电极连接到存储电容器Cst的一侧端,第二晶体管M2的第一电极连接到存储电容器Cst的另一侧端和第一电源ELVDD。第二晶体管M2的第二电极连接到有机发光二极管OLED的阳极。这样的第二晶体管M2控制电流的量与存储在存储电容器Cst中的电压的值对应,所述电流从第一电源ELVDD经有机发光二极管OLED流到第二电源ELVSS。此时,有机发光二极管OLED产生与从第二晶体管M2供给的电流的量对应的光。
然而,上述有机发光显示器具有这样的问题,即,因为有机发光二极管OLED的劣化(或恶化)导致效率改变,所以难以显示具有期望亮度的图像。也就是说,有机发光二极管OLED随着时间劣化,因为劣化较重的有机发光二极管OLED产生的光的亮度比劣化较轻的有机发光二极管OLED产生的光的亮度低,因此随着时间的过去,难以显示具有期望亮度的图像。
发明内容
本发明实施例的一方面涉及一种能够补偿有机发光二极管的劣化的像素。
本发明实施例的另一方面涉及一种使用该像素的有机发光显示器。
本发明的一个实施例提供了一种像素,该像素包括:有机发光二极管;第二晶体管,用于控制从第一电源供给到有机发光二极管的电流的量;第一晶体管,连接在数据线和第二晶体管的栅电极之间,并且在扫描信号被供给到扫描线时,第一晶体管导通;第一电容器,连接在用于接收电源信号的电源线和第二晶体管的栅电极之间,所述电源信号与所述扫描信号叠置,并且所述电源信号的间隔比所述扫描信号的间隔宽;反馈电容器,连接在第二晶体管的栅电极和有机发光二极管的阳极之间。
根据本发明一个实施例的像素还包括连接在第一电源和第二晶体管的栅电极之间的第二电容器。

在一个实施例中,当电源信号被供给到第i电源线时,第三电源的电压可被供给到第i电源线,并且当电源信号没有被供给到第i电源线时,比第三电源的电压高的第四电源的电压可被供给到第i电源线。此外,在一个实施例中,电源信号供给单元适于供给与供给到第i扫描线的扫描信号叠置的电源信号并将所述电源信号供给到第i电源线,所述电源信号的间隔比所述扫描信号的间隔宽。并且,数据信号被设定成对应于比将要被实际表示的灰度级高的灰度级的电压。

在下文中,将参照附图来描述根据本发明的特定示例性实施例。这里,当第一元件被描述为连接到第二元件时,第一元件不仅可以直接连接到第二元件,而且可以通过第三元件间接连接到第二元件。此外,为了清楚起见,省略了对完全理解本发明不必要的一些元件。此外,相同的标号始终表示相同的元件。
图2是示出有机发光二极管的劣化特性的曲线图。在图2中,“Ioled”表示在有机发光二极管中流动的电流,“Voled”表示施加到有机发光二极管的电压。
参照图2,对应于与劣化较轻(劣化之前)的有机发光二极管的电流相同的电流,更高的电压被施加到劣化较重(劣化之后)的有机发光二极管。并且,在有机发光二极管劣化之前,电压范围(或电压差)ΔV1对应于特定的电流范围(I1至I2)。然而,在有机发光二极管劣化之后,比电压范围ΔV1大的电压范围ΔV2对应于特定的电流范围(I1至I2)。此外,随着有机发光二极管进一步劣化,有机发光二极管的电阻分量(resistance component)在数值上增大。
图3是示意性地示出根据本发明一个示例性实施例的有机发光显示器的示图。
参照图3,有机发光显示器包括:像素单元(或显示区域)130,包括设置在由扫描线S1-Sn、电源线VL1-VLn和数据线D1-Dm划分(或限定)的区域(或交叉区域)处(或在所述区域中)的像素140;扫描驱动器110,用于驱动扫描线S1-Sn;数据驱动器120,用于驱动数据线D1-Dm;电源信号供给单元160,用于驱动电源线VL1-VLn;时序控制器150,用于控制扫描驱动器110、数据驱动器120和电源信号供给单元160。
扫描驱动器110在时序控制器150的控制下产生扫描信号,并将产生的扫描信号顺序地供给到扫描线S1-Sn。这里,设定扫描信号的极性,以导通每个像素140中的晶体管。例如,当每个像素140中的晶体管是P沟道金属氧化物半导体(PMOS)时,扫描信号的极性被设定成LOW(低)电压。
电源信号供给单元160将电源信号顺序地供给到电源线VL1-VLn。这里,接收电源信号的电源线VL被设定成第三电源的电压,不接收电源信号的电源线VL被设定成第四电源的电压,第四电源的电压比第三电源的电压高。供给到第i电源线VLi的电源信号与供给到第i扫描线Si的扫描信号叠置,且供给到第i电源线VLi的电源信号还(同时)被设定成其间隔(或宽度)比扫描信号的间隔(或宽度)宽。这里,设计者可以删除电源信号供给单元160。在这种情况下,接收扫描信号的扫描线S的电压被设定成第三电源的电压值,不接收扫描信号的扫描线S的电压被设定成第四电源的电压值。
数据驱动器120在时序控制器150的控制下产生数据信号,并与扫描信号同步地将产生的数据信号供给到数据线D1-Dm。
时序控制器150控制扫描驱动器110、数据驱动器120和电源信号供给单元160。此外,时序控制器150将外部供给的数据传输到数据驱动器120。
像素单元130从像素单元130的外部接收第一电源ELVDD的功率(或电压)和第二电源ELVSS的功率(或电压),并将第一电源ELVDD的功率和第二电源ELVSS的功率供给到每个像素140。接收第一电源ELVDD的功率和第二电源ELVSS的功率的每个像素140产生与数据信号对应的光。
上述像素140具有这样的功能,即,通过补偿每个像素140中包括的有机发光二极管的劣化来产生具有期望亮度的光。为此,在每个像素140中安装用于补偿有机发光二极管的劣化的补偿单元。
图4是示意性地示出根据如图3所示的第一示例性实施例的像素140的电路图。这里,为了便于描述,图4中示出了连接到第n扫描线Sn和第m数据线Dm的像素。
参照图4,根据本发明第一示例性实施例的像素140包括:有机发光二极管OLED;第二晶体管M2,用于将电流供给到有机发光二极管OLED;第一晶体管M1,用于将数据信号供给到第二晶体管M2;存储电容器Cst,用于存储与数据信号对应的电压;反馈电容器Cfb,用于控制第一节点N1的电压与有机发光二极管OLED的电压变化对应。
有机发光二极管OLED的阳极连接到第二晶体管M2的第二电极,阴极连接到第二电源ELVSS。这样的有机发光二极管OLED产生具有设定的(或预定的)亮度的光,所述亮度与从第二晶体管M2供给的电流的量对应。为此,第一电源ELVDD的电压值高于第二电源ELVSS的电压值。
第一晶体管M1的栅电极连接到扫描线Sn,第一晶体管M1的第一电极连接到数据线Dm。第一晶体管M1的第二电极连接到第二晶体管M2的栅电极(即,第一节点N1)。当将扫描信号供给到扫描线Sn时,这样的第一晶体管M1导通,从而将从数据线Dm供给的数据信号供给到第一节点N1。
第二晶体管M2的栅电极连接到第一节点N1,第二晶体管M2的第一电极连接到第一电源ELVDD。第二晶体管M2的第二电极连接到有机发光二极管OLED的阳极。这样的第二晶体管M2将电流供给到有机发光二极管OLED,所述电流与施加到第一节点N1的电压对应。
存储电容器Cst连接在第一节点N1和电源线VLn之间。这样的存储电容器Cst充有与数据信号对应的电压。
反馈电容器Cfb连接在第一节点N1和有机发光二极管OLED的阳极之间。这样的反馈电容器Cfb控制第一节点N1的电压与有机发光二极管OLED的改变的电压量对应。
图5是示出如图4所示的像素140的驱动方法的波形图。
将结合图4和图5更详细地描述像素140的驱动方法。首先,在第一时间段T1期间,将电源信号供给到电源线VLn。
当将电源信号供给到电源线VLn时,电源线VLn的电压从第四电源的电压V4降至第三电源的电压V3。此时,由于连接有存储电容器Csf,因此第一节点N1的电压对应于电源线VLn的电压降而降低。
当第一节点N1的电压降低时,从第二晶体管M2向有机发光二极管OLED供给第一电流。这里,设定第三电源的电压V3和第四电源的电压V4,使得大的第一电流可从第二晶体管M2流到有机发光二极管OLED。例如,设定第三电源的电压V3和第四电源的电压V4,使得对应于数据信号,比在有机发光二极管OLED中可流动的最大电流大的电流可以流动。
与第一电流对应的电压被施加到从第二晶体管M2接收第一电流的有机发光二极管OLED。此时,反馈电容器Cfb充有与施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压和施加到第一节点N1的电压之间的电压差对应的电压。
在第二时间段T2期间,将扫描信号供给到扫描线Sn。当将扫描信号供给到扫描线Sn时,第一晶体管M1导通。当第一晶体管M1导通时,供给到数据线Dm的数据信号被供给到第一节点N1。此时,存储电容器Cst充有与数据信号对应的电压。
同时,当电源线VLn的电压以后增大时,为了供给与正常灰度级对应的电流,对应于比将要被实际表示的灰度级高的灰度级(即,允许更大的发射电流流动)来供给数据信号。
在第三时间段T3期间,暂停扫描信号向扫描线Sn的供给。当暂停扫描信号的供给时,第一晶体管M1截止。在该第三时间段T3期间,反馈电容器Cfb连续地充有电压,所述电压是对应于供给到有机发光二极管OLED的第一电流而施加的电压。这里,第一电流指与电源线VLn的电压降和数据信号对应的电流。
在第四时间段M4期间,暂停供给到电源线VLn的电源信号的供给。
当暂停电源信号向电源线VLn的供给时,电源线VLn的电压从第三电源的电压V3增至第四电源的电压V4。此时,因为第一节点N1被设定成处于浮置状态,所以第一节点N1的电压根据电源线VLn的电压增大也增大。在这种情况下,与第一节点N1的电压增大相对应,第二晶体管M2将第二电流供给到有机发光二极管OLED,第二电流小于第一电流。
对应于第二电流的电压被施加到从第二晶体管M2接收第二电流的有机发光二极管OLED。这里,因为第二电流是小于第一电流的电流,所以与在第三时间段T3期间施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压相比,在第四时间段T4期间施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压被设定成更低的电压值。
此时,被设定成处于浮置状态的第一节点N1的电压根据施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压而变化。实际上,第一节点N1的电压变化如下面的等式1所示。

VN1=Vdata-{Cfb×(Voled1-Voled2)/(Cst+Cfb)}
在等式1中,Voled1表示对应于第一电流而施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压,Voled2表示对应于第二电流而施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压,Vdata表示与数据信号对应的电压。
参照等式1,显示出当施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压变化时,第一节点N1的电压变化。这里,当有机发光二极管OLED劣化时,电压值Voled1-Voled2由于有机发光二极管OLED的电阻增大而增大,这导致第一节点N1的电压降范围增大。也就是说,在本发明第一示例性实施例中,当有机发光二极管OLED劣化时,对应于相同的数据信号,第二晶体管M2中流动的电流的量增大。因此,能够补偿有机发光二极管OLED的劣化。
图6是示意性地示出根据本发明第二示例性实施例的像素140’的电路图。为了清楚的目的,省略了对与图4中的组件相同的组件的详细描述。
参照图6,根据本发明的第二示例性实施例,对于像素140’,存储电容器Cst连接在第一电源ELVDD和第一节点N1之间。这样的存储电容器Cst充有与数据信号对应的电压。
此外,根据本发明的第二示例性实施例,在像素140’中还设置升压电容器Cb,升压电容器Cb连接在电源线VLn和第一节点N1之间。也就是说,在如图4所示的像素140的情况下,使用存储电容器Cst改变第一节点N1的电压,但是在如图6所示的像素140’的情况下,使用单独的升压电容器Cb改变第一节点N1的电压。根据本发明的方法的其它步骤与如图4所示的像素140的驱动方法的其它步骤相同(或基本相同),因此为了清楚的目的而省略了对其它步骤的详细描述。
图7是示意性地示出根据本发明第三示例性实施例的像素140”的电路图。为了清楚的目的,省略了对与图6中的组件相同的组件的详细描述。
参照图7,对于根据本发明第三示例性实施例的像素140”,升压电容器Cb连接在扫描线Sn和第一节点N1之间。这样的升压电容器Cb对应于供给到扫描线Sn的扫描信号来改变第一节点N1的电压。
图8是示出如图7所示的像素140”的驱动方法的波形图。
将结合图7和图8更详细地描述像素140”的驱动方法。首先,在第一时间段T1期间,将扫描信号供给到扫描线Sn。
当将扫描信号供给到扫描线Sn时,第一晶体管M1导通。当第一晶体管M1导通时,数据信号被供给到第一节点N1。当扫描信号被供给到扫描线Sn时,扫描线Sn的电压从第四电源的电压V4降至第三电源的电压V3。此时,对应于扫描线Sn的电压降,通过利用升压电容器Cb,第一节点N1的电压也降低。
当第一节点N1的电压降低时,从第二晶体管M2向有机发光二极管OLED供给第一电流。这里,第一电流指与扫描线Sn的电压降和数据信号对应的电流。
在第一时间段T1期间,与第一电流对应的电压被施加到有机发光二极管OLED。此时,与施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压和施加到第一节点N1的电压之间的电压差对应的电压被充入反馈电容器Cfb中。
在第二时间段T2期间,暂停扫描信号向扫描线Sn的供给。当暂停扫描信号向扫描线Sn的供给时,第一晶体管M1截止。当暂停扫描信号向扫描线Sn的供给时,扫描线Sn的电压从第三电源的电压V3增至第四电源的电压V4。此时,因为第一节点N1被设定成处于浮置状态,所以第一节点N1的电压对应于扫描线Sn的电压增大也增大。在这种情况下,与第一节点N1的电压相对应,第二晶体管M2将第二电流供给到有机发光二极管OLED,第二电流小于第一电流。
对应于第二电流的电压被施加到从第二晶体管M2接收第二电流的有机发光二极管OLED。这里,因为第二电流是小于第一电流的电流,所以与在第一时间段T1期间施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压相比,在第二时间段T2期间施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压被设定成更低的电压值。
此时,被设定成处于浮置状态的第一节点N1的电压根据施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压而变化。也就是说,施加到第一节点N1的电压根据施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压而变化。这里,当有机发光二极管劣化时,对应于第一电流和第二电流,施加到有机发光二极管OLED的电压的差增大,这导致第一节点N1的电压降范围增大。也就是说,在本发明第三示例性实施例中,当有机发光二极管OLED劣化时,对应于相同的数据信号,从第二晶体管M2流出的电流增大。因此,能够补偿有机发光二极管OLED的劣化。
虽然已经结合特定的示例性实施例描述了本发明,但是应该理解,本发明不限于所公开的实施例,而是相反,本发明意图覆盖包括在权利要求及其等同物的精神和范围内的各种修改和等同布置。
Claims (13)
1、一种像素,所述像素包括:
有机发光二极管;
第二晶体管,用于控制从第一电源供给到有机发光二极管的电流的量;
第一晶体管,连接在数据线和第二晶体管的栅电极之间,并且在扫描信号被供给到扫描线时,第一晶体管导通;
第一电容器,连接在用于接收电源信号的电源线和第二晶体管的栅电极之间,所述电源信号与所述扫描信号叠置,并且所述电源信号的间隔比所述扫描信号的间隔宽;
反馈电容器,连接在第二晶体管的栅电极和有机发光二极管的阳极之间。
2、如权利要求1所述的像素,所述像素还包括连接在第一电源和第二晶体管的栅电极之间的第二电容器。
3、一种像素,所述像素包括:
有机发光二极管;
第二晶体管,用于控制从第一电源供给到有机发光二极管的电流的量;
第一晶体管,连接在数据线和第二晶体管的栅电极之间,并且在扫描信号被供给到扫描线时,第一晶体管导通;
第一电容器,连接在扫描线和第二晶体管的栅电极之间;
第二电容器,连接在第一电源和第二晶体管的栅电极之间;
反馈电容器,连接在第二晶体管的栅电极和有机发光二极管的阳极之间。
4、一种有机发光显示器,所述有机发光显示器包括:
扫描驱动器,用于将扫描信号顺序地供给到扫描线;
电源信号供给单元,用于将电源信号顺序地供给到电源线;
数据驱动器,用于与扫描信号同步地将数据信号供给到数据线;
像素,位于扫描线、数据线和电源线的交叉区域,
其中,沿着有机发光显示器的第i水平行延伸的像素中的每个像素包括:
有机发光二极管;
第二晶体管,用于控制从第一电源供给到有机发光二极管的电流的量;
第一晶体管,连接在数据线中对应的数据线和第二晶体管的栅电极之间,并且在扫描信号被供给到扫描线中的第i扫描线时,第一晶体管导通;
第一电容器,连接在电源线中的第i电源线和第二晶体管的栅电极之间;
反馈电容器,连接在第二晶体管的栅电极和有机发光二极管的阳极之间,
其中,i是整数。
5、如权利要求4所述的有机发光显示器,其中,当电源信号被供给到第i电源线时,第三电源的电压被供给到第i电源线,并且当电源信号没有被供给到第i电源线时,比第三电源的电压高的第四电源的电压被供给到第i电源线。
6、如权利要求5所述的有机发光显示器,其中,第三电源的电压和第四电源的电压被设定成使得电流在第二晶体管中流动的电压值,所述在第二晶体管中流动的电流比对应于数据信号流动的电流大。
7、如权利要求4所述的有机发光显示器,其中,电源信号供给单元适于供给与供给到第i扫描线的扫描信号叠置的电源信号并将所述电源信号供给到第i电源线,所述电源信号的间隔比所述扫描信号的间隔宽。
8、如权利要求4所述的有机发光显示器,其中,所述数据信号被设定成对应于比将要被实际表示的灰度级高的灰度级的电压。
9、如权利要求4所述的有机发光显示器,其中,所述每个像素还包括连接在第一电源和第二晶体管的栅电极之间的第二电容器。
10、一种有机发光显示器,所述有机发光显示器包括:
扫描驱动器,用于将扫描信号顺序地供给到扫描线;
数据驱动器,用于与扫描信号同步地将数据信号供给到数据线;
像素,设置在扫描线和数据线的交叉区域,
其中,沿着第i水平行延伸的像素中的每个像素包括:
有机发光二极管;
第二晶体管,用于控制从第一电源供给到有机发光二极管的电流的量;
第一晶体管,连接在数据线中对应的数据线和第二晶体管的栅电极之间,并且在扫描信号被供给到扫描线中的第i扫描线时,第一晶体管导通;
第一电容器,连接在第i扫描线和第二晶体管的栅电极之间;
第二电容器,连接在第一电源和第二晶体管的栅电极之间;
反馈电容器,连接在第二晶体管的栅电极和有机发光二极管的阳极之间,
其中,i是整数。
11、如权利要求10所述的有机发光显示器,其中,当扫描信号被供给到第i扫描线时,第三电源的电压被供给到第i扫描线,并且当扫描信号没有被供给到第i扫描线时,比第三电源的电压高的第四电源的电压被供给到第i扫描线。
12、如权利要求11所述的有机发光显示器,其中,第三电源的电压和第四电源的电压被设定成使得电流在第二晶体管中流动的电压值,所述在第二晶体管中流动的电流比对应于数据信号流动的电流大。
13、如权利要求10所述的有机发光显示器,其中,所述数据信号被设定成对应比将要被实际表示的灰度级高的灰度级的电压。
