Abstract

Se proporciona un sistema y un método para determinar el contenido de humedad de un material de muestra sometido a un análisis de activación elemental (EAA), el cual contiene al menos un elemento de muestra que durante el EAA forma un producto de activación. El método comprende los pasos de i) colocar un material de referencia en las proximidades del material de la muestra, el material de referencia que contiene un elemento de referencia que tiene una sección transversal de captura de neutrones térmicos de al menos 1 barn, el material de referencia seleccionado de manera que su producto isótopo de una reacción de captura de neutrones térmicos es un radioisótopo que emite rayos gamma, ii) irradiar el material de muestra y el material de referencia con una fuente de neutrones rápidos para producir neutrones térmicos en el material de muestra y iii) detectar los rayos gamma emitidos por el material de referencia y generar señales representativas de los rayos gamma detectados, iv) calcular un factor R, proporcional al flujo de neutrones térmicos sobre la base de las señales generadas y v) identificar, a partir de una relación que relacione el contenido de humedad con R, el contenido de humedad del material de muestra.
