Avertisseur sonore.
Buzzer. The object of the present invention is an audible warning device intended to receive the same applications as ordinary electric bells and to operate with the aid of the alternating neck generally distributed by the force and light networks. This alarm is characterized in that it comprises a metal box containing at least one coil in which is engaged at least one soft iron plunger which determines, when the coil is traversed by an alternating current, a succession of small shocks which generate sound vibrations dles walls of the box.
The assembly of this alarm is the same as that of ordinary bells operating on the light current and it lends itself to the same combinations in the case of use of several alarms and several call buttons. In the simple case of mounting a horn controlled by a single call bolt, the ends of an electrical circuit comprising the horn and call button mounted in line can be braked directly on the light pipe. series. The circuit can also be connected to the secondary of an electrical transformer whose primary is connected to the network.
The intended applications are the same due to those of electric bells, but the device forming the subject of the invention differs from the latter by the following properties: it does not include any vibrating contact; 2 Its construction is extremely simple, very robust and inexpensive; its size is very small and it can operate in any position.
3 Completely watertight and gas-tight devices can be made without much complication.
The attached drawing shows, by way of example, three embodiments of the object. of the invention.
Fig. 1. is a diametral section of an audible warning device formed by means of a box (the tin dent the bottom. And the cover can vibrate, like agglomerated diap.lir; Fig. 2 represents in diametral casting an audible warning device in which the vibrations of the box palois are increased by the repeated clhoes of a piece of iron subjected to the periodic attractions produced by the alternating current: Fig. 3 represents in diametral section a warning device specially designed to present a perfect sealing.
The alarm shown on the wire. 1 consists of a thin simple tin can 1, with a cover 2. On the bottom of the beautiful is welded a soft iron plunger 3 and on the lid an iron plunger also douix- 4. The coil 5 surrounds the two divers.
The passage (the one current in the coil determines an attraction of the divers 3 and 4 and this attraction is particularly strong, because the use (the magnetic flux generated by the coil is very good, the box ensuring the closing of the magnetic circuit). .
When the coil is traversed by the alternating current, the attraction exerted between the two plungers periodically decays as does the intensity of the alternating current which generates it and is canceled each time the current changes direction. passing through 0. On the contrary, it is naximuim when the intensity is maximum both in one direction and in the other.
The length of the divers is determined for shit, at rest, they are slightly apart and that, when they are subjected to the maximum attraction of the coil, they strike one on the landing thanks to the elasticity of the bottoms of the box which, which they are fixed. Under these conditions, when the coil is traversed by an alternating current, the plungers move alternately in the direction of the axis of the coil and the bottom and the cover of the box begin to vibrate.
The repeated shocks which occur help to increase the sound vibrations of the bottom of the box which behave like diaphragms and there is elimination of a sound whose intensity depends on the energy expended in the coil and on vibration amplification.
This amplitude, and consequently the intensity (read sound, can be reduced to a value as low as one wishes by screwing the screw 6 provided with a knurled knob. A lock nut i makes it possible to immobilize this screw .
The apparatus thus constituted can receive the same applications as electric bells with shaker. The assembly is done as for the bells with the only difference that one connects the circuit comprising the alarm and the contact buttons in the lighting network instead of using a battery of batteries.
The dimensions and resistance of the coil can be easily determined so that there is no need for additional resistance or transformer and due to the device can be operated directly, without excessive heating, on circuits with current alternating 110 or 220 volts generally used for lighting. The periodicity of these currents being most often 40 to 50 periods per second, a frequency of 80 to 100 periods is obtained for the magnetic attraction, giving a dominant low note accompanied by more or less acute sounds due to the vibralions of the box produced by the repeated shocks of the plungers 3 and one on the other.
By using a less resistant coil, we can. also. operate the appliance with a lower voltage obtained using a small transformer connected to the lighting circuit.
The apparatus which has just been described is: very easy to construct and very inexpensive. It is extremely robust and can be operated in any position. Fig. 2 also represents. an alarm consisting of a tin box, 9, fitted with its cover 10 and By a coil 11, surrounding the plon-eitrs i? and 13, respectively welded on the bottom and on the cover (the roninie box indicates this in the figure.
But in this apparatus, the vibrations of the box are reinforced by means of the small plunger (the soft iron 14, which smooth neck with very soft friction in an axial hole of the core 13 and which normally occupies the position shown in the figure thanks to to the compression coil spring 16 which tends to move it away from the plunger 12.
A screw (adjustment 17 provided with the lock nut 18 allows this to be limited to a value as low as one wishes the air gap separating the moving part 14 and the plunger 12.
When the coil is traversed by an alternating current, the moving part 124 moves alternately in the direction (the axis (the the coil as a result of the periodic attractions exerted on it and the action of the spring 16 which tends to recall it to the initial position each time that the magnetic attraction is canceled out, resulting in a succession of small shocks which are repeated at a frequency twice that of the alternating current used.
These shocks contribute to making the bottom and the cover of the box vibrate; but with this device, the expenditure of electrical energy can be limited to a very low value, because the coil spring 16 can be chosen sufficiently weak so that the displacement (the part 14 takes place for a very weak magnetic attraction). This result would be difficult to obtain by means of the apparatus shown in fig. 1. where the displacement of the plunger 4. is used directly because the return of this plunger is obtained thanks to the elasticity of the cover. which cannot be very large, due to the requirement to use a metal box of sufficient thickness so that it is sufficiently strong, sturdy and does not warp from accidental impact.
It follows that with the device shown in FIG. 2, we can be satisfied with a very small coil, made using a stronger wire. than copper, such as nickel silver, for example, and absorbing very little energy, which makes it possible to give it very small dimensions without fear of excessive heating. The intensity of the solu emitted is smaller, but this may not be of any importance in certain special applications and the cost of the coil is lower.
Fig. 3 represents a provision applicable when the alarm must be installed in damp rooms or when the electric wire must be protected against corrosive fumes, or when it is placed near (flammable materials or exposed to explosions (construction sites , mines, factories (chemicals, powder factories etc.). In these cases, it is necessary to ensure a perfect seal of the box containing the electric coil and to take all precautions to avoid overheating. managed accidental.
Fig. 3 shows an arrangement which can be advantageously adopted. The bottom of the box is formed by a cast iron part 20 carrying a boss 21 on which the inner coil 22 is mounted.
A connection device is provided to ensure a sealed junction between the box and the electrical pipe, which, in the cases which have just been considered, is usually protected by a leaded sheet tube coated with an insulating lining. A boss is used for this purpose carrying a threaded hole 23 for screwing in a suitable connector. The box can. obviously carry any other device making it possible to connect the tubes with it. protection of the electrical pipe according to the modalities (the junction provided for them.
In order for the coil to be placed under favorable conditions from the point of view of the evacuation of the heat developed by the Joule effect, a vibrating plunger 24 having the shape shown in FIG. 3 is preferably employed so that the radiation surface (the coil is, the largest possible. This shape of the plungers is also favorable from the magnetic point of view, because it is advantageous. to have a large surface (the air gap so that the induction, and as a result force (attraction be. to.nience.
On the other hand, in order to avoid any accidental exaggerated heating, there will be placed in the box, and in series with the coil, a fusible wire so that the latter cuts the current in the event that the apparatus should heat up excessively. in an abnormal way.
The alarm thus constituted is absolutely watertight and gax-proof and offers complete safety for the special applications envisaged. These results are achieved without major complications, unlike with ordinary ringing tones for which absolute tightness is very difficult to obtain.
For current warning devices of small dimensions intended to be connected directly to the 110 or 220 volt light circuits, it is necessary to provide coils sufficiently resistant to limit consumption and heating to an admissible value. When one uses exclusively insulated copper wire to constitute the inner coil, one is led to use wire of very small section insulated with silk and costing a relatively high price. In order to reduce the weight of the yarn required, recourse can be had to the form of cores shown in fig. 3, in order to use (the coils having the shape of a thin crown presenting a large surface (the radiation of the heat developed by the passage of the current.
You can also use spools of nickel silver wire. or any other metal more resistant than copper, as was indicated during the description of the apparatus shown in FIG. 2.
This arrangement has the drawback of allowing only a much smaller useful effect for the same size of coil. Indeed if we consider two coils of identical dimensions, one in nickel silver, the other in copper, subjected to the same potential difference, that of Mailleclhort, being much more resistant, heats much less, but absorbs a current. much lower. The number of ampere-turns available, and consequently the attraction of the nuclei, are considerably reduced.
To remedy this drawback, provision may be made for an arrangement consisting in employing for the winding two unequally resistant conductors such as copper and nickel silver. We will first wind the copper wire and we will complete the winding with a few layers (the key nickel silver wire so that it is placed at the periphery of the coil and that it is therefore placed in good refrigeration conditions If the nickel silver wire has the same cross section as the wire (copper, a few layers are sufficient to considerably increase the resistance of the coil.
The quantity (the heat developed by the passage (read current through the chort mesh wire will be greater than for the same key length of copper wire, but since the nickel silver wire will be on the outside of the coil. the heat will be effected in good condition. A small nickel silver coil can also be used in series with the coil (the copper and arranged concentrically with it, reserving between the two an air space favoring the coil. Evacuation of heat For appliances which do not require airtightness of the box, it is possible to drill into the latter These ventilation holes favor the efi oiclissemenl.
