1. Sie hat mindestens zwei Kohlenstoffatome (was die Kohlenstoffatome der vorhandenen Carboxylgruppen einschliesst);

The invention relates to accelerators for use in cementitious compositions applied by spraying.
Spraying cementitious compositions onto substrates such as rock surfaces is a well known technology. The requirements that the composition be sufficiently flowable to be conveyed to a spray nozzle and harden sufficiently quickly when it hits the substrate have been met by injecting an accelerator at the nozzle. Common accelerators contain substances such as "water glass" (sodium silicate), sodium aluminate, calcium chloride and alkali hydroxides. Although these materials perform well, the strong alkalinity of many of these materials creates very uncomfortable conditions in the area surrounding the spraying process, particularly in closed spaces such as tunnels, which requires protective equipment.
There has therefore been considerable interest in the development of alkali-free accelerators for sprayable, cementitious compositions. An example is the use of mixtures containing aluminum hydroxide. For example, EP-B 0 076 927 describes an alkali-free accelerator which contains aluminum hydroxide in combination with one or more soluble aluminum salts. Aluminum hydroxide is well suited, but has a major disadvantage, since aqueous dispersions of aluminum hydroxide (which are ready for immediate use) are not stable in storage and become useless after only a few days.
It has now been found that a combination of certain aluminum compounds with certain acids permits the production of a storage-stable mixture. Better performance is also possible with low alkalinity. An accelerating mixture for a sprayable cementitious composition is therefore provided according to the invention, which comprises a compound selected from aluminum hydroxide and aluminum hydroxysulfate and an acidic substance which essentially does not react with the compound.
The aluminum hydroxide and the aluminum hydroxysulfate used in the present invention are easily commercially available materials. The hydroxysulfate is particularly well suited and is the preferred material for the purposes of the invention. A typical example of this material is "Gezedral" L (brand) from Giulini Chemie GmbH, Ludwigshafen / Rhein, Germany.
“Acidic substance” means a substance that has a pH of less than 7 in aqueous solution. For the purposes of the present invention, it is essential that the substance be at least slightly soluble in water. It is also essential that the acidic substance essentially not react with the compound; this is understood to mean that, although a low reaction rate is not detrimental, a reaction should not occur to a significant extent that significantly changes the type of connection. Preferably no more than 10% of the compound reacts with the acidic substance. On this basis, many strong mineral acids cannot be used to practice the invention. Relatively weak inorganic acids, such as boric acid, give good results.
However, for the purposes of the present invention, the preferred acidic substances are organic. An organic substance for use in the present invention has the following features:
1. It has at least two carbon atoms (which includes the carbon atoms of the carboxyl groups present);
2. The acidity arises from the presence of at least one carboxyl group and / or at least one sulfonic acid group.
It is essential that the addition of 0.05 to 5% by weight, based on the total composition of the organic compound, to a mixture of 25% aluminum hydroxide / hydroxysulfate and residual water produces a mixture with a pH of less than 7 , preferably 4 to 6. Therefore, large molecules such as polymers that contain relatively few acidic groups are not suitable organic compounds for the purposes of the invention.
The compounds that give the best results are C1-C6 alkanoic acids, especially ethanoic acid (acetic acid). Good results are also provided by a number of dicarboxylic acids, especially oxalic acid, adipic acid, succinic acid and glutaric acid. Sulfonic acid containing compounds that give good results include amidosulfonic acid, benzenesulfonic acid and methanesulfonic acid.
The organic compounds can be in solid or liquid form. Since the mixture is generally added to the nozzle as an aqueous solution or dispersion, the components of the mixture are mixed into the water in suitable concentrations and then injected into the nozzle. The proportions of the components, based on the weight, are 10 to 35% for aluminum hydroxide / hydroxysulfate, 0.1 to 10% for the organic compound and 50 to 90% for water. The preferred ranges are 20 to 30%, 0.5 to 5% and 65 to 80%, respectively. An essential feature of the invention is that a liquid mixture that is ready for use (or a liquid concentrate that is dilutable) is stable in storage for long periods of time.
In addition to these essential components, other components can be added which improve the composition in any way. One such component is ethylene glycol, which is typically added in a proportion of up to 30% by weight of the total composition. This promotes the stabilization of the composition.
Other additional components can improve the properties of the sprayed cementitious compositions. Two of these components are amines and polymers that contain carboxyl groups. The amines are preferably alkanolamines, in particular diethanolamine and triethanolamine, which are preferably present in a proportion of 0.1 to 5%, preferably 0.5 to 2% by weight, based on the mixture as a whole.
The polymers suitable for this aspect of the invention are polymers which carry suitable carboxyl groups in the side chain. The carboxyl group can be a carboxyl radical, and any polymer with such radicals that meets the other parameters described below is suitable for the invention. Examples include poly (acrylic) and poly (methacrylic) acids and mixtures and copolymers of meth (acrylic) acid with other comonomers. However, preferred monomers are "comb-like" polymers, that is to say polymers which have a polymer backbone (the chemical nature of which is essentially irrelevant for the implementation of the invention) to which groups containing carboxyl radicals are attached. The groups can be up to 100 units long and can include monomer residues, for example of (meth) acrylic acid, maleic acid or fumaric acid.
It is preferred that the groups consist entirely of (meth) acrylic acid residues.
A preferred framework is a random addition polymer, in which one of the monomers from which it is composed has more than one and preferably two polymerizable double bonds present before the polymerization. A preferred monomer with more than one double bond is butadiene and a preferred copolymer is a styrene-butadiene copolymer. Such a copolymer (which may have double bonds in the side chains and / or in the chain) can be graft-copolymerized monomers containing carboxyl groups, such as acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, maleic acid or fumaric acid. Examples of preferred copolymers are styrene-butadiene which has been copolymerized with acrylic acid and styrene / butadiene / maleic (or fumaric) acid terpolymer.
The polymers according to the invention have a molecular weight of more than 20,000 and are solid at room temperature. They also have limited solubility in water, being best dispersible (never fully soluble) but extremely soluble in alkaline media (e.g. a flowable cementitious mixture). In the case of poly (meth) acrylic acid and polymers that are inherently soluble in water, it is possible to produce such polymers in a form that the necessary solubility is achieved, for example in particle form. They are added to the cementitious mixture as an aqueous dispersion in such a way that the amount of polymer, based on the weight of the cement, is 0.01 to 3%.
Typical examples of suitable, commercially available materials are those which are available under the brand name "Synthomer" (from Synthomer Chemie GmbH, Frankfurt / Main, Germany). A particularly suitable example is "Synthomer" 9523 (a methacrylic acid-styrene-butadiene copolymer). Another suitable, commercially available product is "Polyacryl" AD (from Polygon Chemie AG, Olten, Switzerland).
The combination of aluminum hydroxide / hydroxysulfate, amine and polymer as described above for use in cementitious spray compositions is described in the corresponding British patent application 9 416 114, the content of which is incorporated herein by reference. It has now been found that the incorporation of an organic compound, as described above, leads to a substantial improvement in properties such as strength development. The invention therefore provides a method of spraying a cementitious composition onto a substrate from a nozzle, which comprises adding an accelerating mixture, as defined above, to the composition at the nozzle. The invention also provides a sprayed cementitious composition on a substrate comprising an accelerating mixture as described above.
The invention is further described with reference to the following examples:

It can be clearly seen that the viscosity of the material of Example 40 is initially high and increases significantly while the compositions of the invention remain fluid. There is no measurement in the Ford cup for the material of Example 40 because it is too viscous to flow through a Ford cup. A feature of the compositions according to the invention is that the pH increases slightly after 7 days and then stabilizes, essentially remaining unchanged at this value for several months.
