The present invention relates to a device for fixing a thermometer or a thermoelectric probe.
Generally temperature measuring devices in vessels, boilers, reactors, etc. have a sensor, bimetallic, compressed gas or thermoelectric; a housing or dial or a connection head and a protective tube.
For there to be a good temperature measurement at the desired location, the sensor must be in contact with the end of the protective tube which is generally positioned beforehand and is part of an installation.
With existing thermometers or thermoelectric probes, it is difficult or impossible to achieve correct positioning of the probe or sensor in the prepositioned protection tube.
The object of the present invention is to alleviate the aforementioned drawbacks and to allow optimal positioning of a standard sensor connected to a connection head or to its housing inside a prepositioned protection tube.
The subject of the present invention is a fixing device for a temperature sensor which is distinguished by the characteristics listed in claim 1.
The accompanying drawing illustrates schematically and by way of example an embodiment and a variant of the fixing device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 partially illustrates in longitudinal section a thermometer equipped with a fixing device according to the invention.
Fig. 2 illustrates a variant of the fixing device.
Fig. 3 illustrates a second variant of the fixing device.
To obtain optimal temperature measurement conditions with a sensor inside a protective tube for this sensor, it is necessary to be able to adjust the position of the sensor in the protective tube. This cannot be done with existing systems where the thermometer box B or the thermoelectric probe connection box are connected using tubular elements of fixed length and nuts. Indeed, it would be necessary that the tube containing the probe of the thermometer is exactly adapted for each use, which obviously cannot be the case.
This is why the present invention provides a fixing device comprising an extendable tubular extension which is fixed on the one hand to the end of the protective tube which it extends and on the other hand to the housing B of the thermometer or to the head. of the thermoelectric probe.
This extendable, telescopic extension comprises in a first embodiment, fig. 1, an inner tube 2, an outer tube 1 and a nut 5 sliding without play in each other. The external tube 1 has at each of its ends an external thread 3, 4, one 3 located at the free end of the external tube 1 being intended to allow the fixing of this end on a protective tube, not illustrated, making part of the installation on which the thermometer or thermoelectric probe is to be mounted. The other thread 4 of this outer tube 1 is intended to cooperate with a nut 5 of a device for assembling the tubes 1, 2 one on the other comprising a second nut 6 cooperating with a threaded extension 7 of the nut 5 and a ring 8.
This extendable extension further includes a nut 9 allowing the attachment of the inner tube 2 to the housing B of the thermometer or the thermoelectric probe. Thus the telescopic extension connects the housing B to the protection tube.
This telescopic extension presents a very specific assembly device 5-8. The nut 5 screwed onto the outer tube 1 has an extension 7 carrying an external thread cooperating with the internal thread of the nut 6. This extension 7 has an internal wall having a generally conical recess that tapers in the direction of the nut 5 and receiving a bevelled part 8a of the metal cover 8. The thick part of the ring 8 abuts against the bottom of the nut 6. The bevelled part 8a of the ring 8 ends in an edge 8b.
Once the telescopic extension has been fixed on the one hand to the protective tube and on the other hand to the housing B, the tube 2 is moved inside the tube 1 until the thermometer or the thermoelectric probe connected to the housing B either in its optimal position or in contact with the bottom of the protection tube. It is indeed necessary that there is contact of the probe or the thermometer with the bottom of the protection tube but it is not necessary that a too great compressive force is exerted on the probe, it suffices just a positioning.
Once the thermometer or the probe in place, the nuts 5 and 6 are tightened, which does not cause any change in the length of the extension but deforms the edge 8b of the ring 8 which is embedded in the external wall of the inner tube 2, thereby permanently fixing the relative axial position of the tubes 1, 2.
By slightly loosening the nuts 5, 6 we can then, while keeping the relative axial position of the tubes 1, 2 locked, allow a relative rotation of these two tubes 1, 2 to orient the dial of the thermometer or the cable outlet from the housing B of a thermoelectric probe.
Thanks to this extension it is possible to use standard length thermometers and to position them correctly by adjusting the length of the telescopic extension. This is a very important advantage since the number of different thermometers to be stored can decrease in large proportions.
The fixing device may also include a compression spring placed at the bottom of the protective tube to allow positioning of the end of the thermometer under a determined pressure.
In another variant illustrated in FIG. 3 the compression spring 11 is disposed between the bottom of the nut 5 and the end of the tube 1. A nut 12, screwed onto this end of the tube 1 slides on a cylindrical part of the nut 5 and a screw 10 allows to fix the axial position of this nut 12 and therefore of the tube 1 relative to the nut 5. It is thus possible to vary finely the length of the telescopic extension and to press the probe or the thermometer with a pressure determined by the spring 11 against the bottom of the protective tube.
This fixing device can also include a spark barrier incorporated into the tubes of the telescopic extension for applications in an explosive environment.
In fig. 3 we still see a seal 13 serving as a spark barrier. This spark barrier could be constituted in any other known way.
Fig. 2 illustrates a variant of the telescopic extension in which the outer tube 1 is screwed onto an external thread of the nut 5 so that the tubes 1 and 2 do not touch. It is the nut 5 which slides on the tube 2 without play.
