Bei einem bekannten Verfahren zum Fadenheften von aus einzelnen Lagen gebildeten Buchblocks wird ein Heftfaden mittels einer Nähnadel durch den Falz einer jeden Lage gestossen, an eine abständig dazu durch den Falz gestossene Hakennadel übergeben, von dieser in Form einer Schlinge aus der Lage herausgeführt und mit der Schlinge der vorherigen Lage verkettet. Die Fadenheftmaschine zur Anwendung dieses Verfahrens besteht im wesentlichen aus einem Heftkopf, aus einem hin- und herschwingenden Haftsattel, der die einzelnen Lagen dem Heftkopf zuführt und aus einem Auslegetisch zum Herausführen der gehefteten Lagen aus der Fadenheftmaschine. Der Heftsattel ist zusätzlich mit einem Vorstechmechanismus mit Vorstechnadeln versehen mit der Funktion, die Lage im Bundsteg an vorgegebenen Stellen von innen nach aussen vorzustechen, so dass den anschliessend einstechenden Nah- und Hakennadeln ein geringstmöglicher Widerstand entgegengesetzt wird.
