Abstract

Farrowing pen for keeping sows together with their piglets in an appropriate manner from the birth of the young animals until they are weaned. The farrowing pen provides the animals with sufficient freedom of movement and is divided up into an activity zone (1) and a resting and bedding zone (2) which is heat-insulated with respect to the ground and is covered with straw. The enclosure for the piglets (8) is accommodated, adjacent to the service passage, in a corner of the resting zone and is enclosed by a movement zone (21) for the piglets, said zone being protected, by a covering (7) and deflecting elements (23), against direct access of the sow and additionally contains an automatic feeder for the piglets. The activity zone contains all the equipment necessary for keeping the sow, such as straw rack, feed trough and drinking nipple as well as a grille-type door for direct access. The activity zone is separated from the adjacent farrowing pens by grille-type walls, and the resting zone is separated from the adjacent farrowing pens by fixed, non-transparent wooden walls. <IMAGE>

Bei der Wirtschaftlichkeit ist nicht nur der Aufwand für Futtermittel und die baulichen Einrichtungen massgebend, sondern in hohem Masse auch der Arbeitsaufwand für die Fütterung und für die Entsorgung von Nestmaterial und Fäkalien. Moderne Erkenntnisse zeigen zudem, dass sowohl die Wirtschaftlichkeit als auch der Zuchterfolg wesentlich von einer artgerechten Haltung der Tiere abhängen. Neben tierschützerischen Überlegungen spielen dabei die Erfahrungen aus der Verhaltensforschung eine wichtige Rolle. Eine haltungsgerechte Schweinebucht ist in der Schweizerischen Patentschrift 679 201 (H. Schmid, 17.01.1992) vorgeschlagen worden. Die dort gezeigte Vorrichtung besteht aus einem viereckigen Kasten der für ein erwachsenes Schwein genügende Bewegungsfreiheit gewährt und durch eine Schwelle in zwei getrennte Bereiche für Aktivität und Ruhe unterteilt ist. Zur wirksamen Abtrennung der beiden Zonen dient ein zusätzliches Hindernis, wie z.B. eine Stellwand, ein Gitter oder Trennpfosten, die vonwiegend in der Mitte der Trennschwelle angebracht sind. Die Anordnung folgt damit den Ergebnissen der Verhaltensforschung, die zeigen, dass das Schwein für die verschiedenen Tätigkeiten wie Fressen und Trinken, Koten und Harnen verschiedene Plätze aufsucht. Die Schwellenhöhe ist so gewählt, dass das Schwein ohne Mühe von einer Zone zur andern wechseln kann. An appropriate pig bay has been proposed in Swiss patent specification 679 201 (H. Wichtige Beiträge zur Verhaltensforschung des Hausschweins stammen z.B. von H. Schmid und FL Weber veröffentlicht in den FAT-Berichten, No. 417, (Mai 1992), herausgegeben von der Eidg. Forschungsanstalt für Betriebswirtschaft und Landtechnik. Die dort beschriebenen Erfahrungen führten zum Vorschlag einer neuen Schweinebucht, die als wesentlichen Fortschritt die im oben erwähnten Patent beschriebene Einteilung in zwei Zonen für den Aktivitäts- und den Ruhebereich bringt. Innerhalb der Ruhezone, an der Grenze zum Aktivitätsbereich befindet sich in der Mitte die Ferkelkiste mit einer Wärmequelle und einem Futterautomaten, sowie einem Ein- und Ausgang für die Ferkel. Der Fortschritt betrifft sowohl die Überlebenschancen der Ferkel in der Laktations- und Entwöhnungsphase, als auch eine Erleichterung im Lebensbereich des Muttertiers, dies vor allem gegenüber der früher üblichen Kastenhaltung. Der Zugang zur Abferkelbucht erfolgt durch die neben der vergitterten Vorderwand (9) befindlichen Gittertüre (10). In diesem Bereich, vom Bedienungsgang leicht zugänglich, befinden sich auch der Futtertrog (12) und die Strohraufe (11) für das Mutterschwein. Der Strohvorrat (13) befindet sich, für das Schwein unzugänglich, links des Eingangs. Durch die Klapptüre (14) können die Ferkel aus ihrer Kiste entnommen und in der Inspektionsbucht (15) begutachtet oder veterinärmedizinisch behandelt werden. Durch die in dieser Figur nicht sichtbare seitliche Öffnung (24) finden die Ferkel Zugang zu ihrer Bewegungszone (21) und zum Säugen in der Ruhezone (2), sowie zum Futterautomaten (16). Durch das Loch (18) haben die Ferkel auch Zugang zur Aktivitätszone (1). Die Abweisevorrichtung (19) für das Mutterschwein dient dem Schutz der Ferkel vor dem Erdrücktwerden, wenn sich das Mutterschwein zum Säugen bereitlegt. (22) ist ein Getränkenippel mit der zugehörigen Wasserleitung. Durch das Gitterfenster (17) kann das Mutterschwein die für die Ferkel bestimmte Zone (21) einsehen.
