Beschreibung description
The invention relates to a steam extraction device intended for arrangement above a hotplate, with a extraction housing and a suction surface formed thereon.
Such fume hoods to be installed in kitchens, kitchenettes etc. form a regular and important part of the ventilation system. The facilities, which are also referred to as “steam extractor hoods”, have the task of collecting water vapor, grease vapor, smoke, smells, etc. from pots and pans and transporting them outside. The suction surface, which is arranged at a distance of about 40 to 60 cm above the hotplate, is normally combined with a grease filter and corresponds in area to that of the hotplate. The required vacuum on the suction surface or the extraction of exhaust air is brought about by an exhaust air blower; This fan is often installed in the fume cupboard, but several steam extraction devices can also be connected to a common exhaust fan.
Often, the suction surface is installed in a recessed manner or surrounded with a housing edge, or flaps or pull-out surfaces which can be swung out to the front are provided in order to form a storage space under the suction surface. This is intended to improve the “catch effect” of the extraction device, in particular in the event of steam vapors rising intermittently.
Dies hat vor allem folgende Gründe: Experience has shown, however, that the mode of operation of such steam extraction devices - with or without storage space - is often very imperfect, as can easily be determined from smells spreading in the kitchen and apartment, as well as fat and moisture deposits on walls, windows and furniture. The main reasons for this are:
- As is known, the exhaust air fan can only convey air to the extent that supply air flows into the room to be vented; This requirement has recently been met less and less, since buildings with a dense building envelope are increasingly being built. If ventilation slits or so-called vacuum flaps are provided on the outer wall to ensure sufficient supply air, these result in unpleasant drafts and cooling of the room, especially in winter.
- The suction effect under the suction surface is only a short distance away and is hardly noticeable a few centimeters below. Vapors rising from the cooking vessels etc. are therefore extracted with the slightest draft, e.g. due to movements of people, distracted long before they reach the effective area of the suction surface. The unrecognized vapors immediately mix with the room air or rise to the ceiling, where they can no longer be captured.
- Warm air, which rises more or less continuously from the hob, also sets in motion a volume flow that is considerable in volume in the adjacent surrounding air masses (induced air flow). A “mushroom-shaped” or “roller-shaped” flow pattern is created, which (if necessary supported by cross flows) leads to a rapid mixing of the vapors with the room air.
With the present invention, a steam extraction device is to be proposed which overcomes the above-mentioned shortcomings and is significantly improved in its effect compared to known devices. This object is achieved according to the invention by a blowing nozzle arrangement which surrounds the suction surface over at least a part of its circumference and which is connected to a supply air blower in order to generate a curtain-like blowing air flow directed away from the suction surface against the hotplate.
In any case, a considerable part of the required supply air is continuously supplied via the blast air flow fed by the supply air blower, in the form of an air curtain, which surrounds and “captures” the air masses rising from the hob. In contrast to a suction flow, the blown air flow emerging from a nozzle arrangement acts at a considerable distance even with a moderate delivery capacity, and can therefore easily extend into the area where the vapors are formed. The effect emanating from the suction surface hardly reaches further down, but the rising vapors and particles within the air curtain are guided in a “shaft-like” manner and are effectively protected against cross currents. Because the supply air is supplied in the area of the extraction device itself and immediately sucked off again together with the cooking vapors, no drafts can arise through the room, nor is the room air significantly cooled. The downward blowing air flow also effectively prevents the above-mentioned air flow induced by rising vapors or the formation of the flow pattern mentioned.
Various expedient configurations of the invention mentioned above and defined in claim 1 are specified in claims 2 to 14. Steam extraction devices according to the invention can either be produced as complete, new devices or by retrofitting existing devices which only have the exhaust air part.
The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of various exemplary embodiments in conjunction with the drawing.

An exhaust part known per se has an exhaust housing 12, on which the suction surface 14 combined with a grease filter 15 is formed at the bottom. The suction surface 14 is surrounded by a protruding edge 13 to form a storage space for vapors rising from the hotplate 4; A storage space, if desired, can also be formed in a known manner by means of flaps, pull-out surfaces or the like. Inside the fume cupboard 12 there is an exhaust fan 16 for extracting the cooking vapors reaching the suction surface 14. The conveyed air volume passes through the exhaust pipe 17 into the open. Instead of an exhaust air blower 16 installed in the exhaust housing 12, a central exhaust air blower (not shown) can also be provided outside, to which the exhaust air pipe 17 is connected together with other exhaust devices.
A corresponding amount of supply air is required so that an exhaust air flow 8 can exist through the suction surface 14. This is supplied in the form of a blown air stream 22 which surrounds the suction surface 14 like a curtain on the circumference. In the present example, slot nozzles 20 are formed on a part of the circumference of the suction surface 14, namely on both sides and at the front edge, from which the blown air flow 22 flows out toward the hotplate 4 away from the suction surface. The supply air is conveyed by a supply air blower 21 or is brought in from the outside through an intake pipe 23. The pressure pipe 24 of the blower 21 opens into an inlet air box 25 which surrounds the fume cupboard 12 and which forms or limits the slot nozzles 20 together with the edge 13 of the fume cupboard. The blowing nozzle arrangement 20 can also be connected to the supply air blower in another way. In particular, it is also conceivable that a central supply air blower (not shown) is available for several steam extraction devices and / or other supply air consumers (ventilation devices, etc.).
The curtain-like blown air flow 22 forms - together with the rear wall 2 - a kind of shaft surrounding the suction surface 14 and the hotplate 4, in which the rising cooking fumes 6 are “trapped”. Naturally, the blowing effect at the outlet from the nozzle arrangement 20 is most intense. It decreases steadily downwards, but extends to the area above the hotplate where the vapors 6 are generated. To the extent that the blowing effect and the flow velocity of the blowing air flow 22 decrease, the supply air mixes inwards with the rising warm air and forms the exhaust air flow 8 with it. The induction of a "roller-like" flow in the surrounding room air by the ascending warm air and suction flow is effectively prevented by the blown air flow 22. In particular, rising vapors and smells cannot spread horizontally in the upper area, since the effect of the "air curtain" is strongest there. At most, the blown air flow 22 can interact on the outside with the ambient air, but it is the fresh supply air and not the vapors and odors to be extracted.
The amount of air supplied by the supply air blower 21 through the blowing nozzle arrangement 20 will ideally be set so that the amount of air drawn off by the exhaust air blower 16 predominates by a small amount. As indicated in FIG. 1 by the dashed arrow 27, a slight “deficit flow” will then predominantly occur directly in the area where the vapors originate (where the effect of the blown air flow 22 has decreased), which additionally prevent the vapors from mixing with the ambient air helps. It will often be expedient if the blown air flow 22 can be adjusted with regard to pressure and / or delivery volume. The supply air flow can be controlled manually or automatically, in particular depending on the particular use of the hotplate or the amount of cooking steam. The supply air flow can be influenced by regulating the output of the supply air blower 21 or by throttling means by means of the supply air flow, as indicated, for example, by a throttle valve 34.
In order to generate the curtain-like blown air flow directed away from the suction surface against the hotplate, the blower nozzle arrangement can be designed in various ways. For example, circular nozzles arranged in a row can be provided instead of slot nozzles, for example when the suction surface is not delimited in a straight line. The blower nozzle arrangement need not be connected to the suction surface or to the exhaust housing to form a unit, but the blower nozzle arrangement connected to the supply air blower can be mounted independently of the exhaust air part, for example as a “retrofit kit”. Means can also be provided to change the outlet openings on the nozzle arrangement, i.e. to reduce and enlarge, etc. Above all, it may also be expedient to be able to adjust the blowing nozzle arrangement with respect to the direction of the exiting blowing air flow, as can be seen from the next exemplary embodiment.
In contrast, the blowing nozzle arrangement is formed by four slot nozzles 20a, which are each formed on straight pipe sections. The slot nozzles 20a are located on all four sides, which form the circumference of the suction surface 14; the arrangement of a blowing nozzle along the rear wall 2 (FIG. 4) can be expedient to prevent fogging of the rear wall with water or fat vapors. The four pipe sections on which the slot nozzles are formed are mounted so that they can be pivoted through a certain angle about their longitudinal axis. As a result, the outlet direction of the blown air stream 22 is adjustable, as indicated in FIGS. 3 and 4. The air curtain generated can thus be narrowed or expanded somewhat as required, for example by extraction to a certain area

der Kochstelle zu konzentrieren bzw. um einen grösseren Bereich, z.B. eine Absteilfläche, mit ein-zubeziehen. to concentrate the hotplate or around a larger area, e.g. a parting area to be included.
The connection from the pressure side of the supply air blower 21 (pressure pipe 24) to the individual blowing nozzles or pipe sections is established in the present example by flexible pipes 26.
The further embodiment variant according to FIG. 5 in turn has a blowing nozzle arrangement with slot nozzles 20a, which are molded onto pipe sections. The supply of air to the slot nozzles takes place in a manner similar to that in FIGS. 1 and 2 via a supply air box 25 surrounding the exhaust housing 12 (or alternatively in a manner similar to that in FIGS. 3 and 4 via flexible pipes). According to FIG. 5, the supply air blower 21a is combined with the exhaust air blower 16 and the common blower motor 31 to form a double blower. The double blower can expediently be mounted in the interior of the exhaust housing 12, the intake pipe 23 for the supply air being guided through the supply air box and the exhaust housing.
A further design option for the blow nozzle arrangement is finally shown schematically in FIG. 6. According to this, a straight-line slot nozzle 20b is formed on the tubular housing 21b of a cross-flow fan. At one end of the housing 21b is the drive motor 32, which drives the (not visible) rotor in the housing 21b, and at the other end of the housing is the opening 33 for the supply air. Such units according to FIG. 6, in which the supply air blower and the slot nozzle are combined, can be attached to the circumference of the suction surface in order to form the blow nozzle arrangement.
