Dental instrument intended to work in the channels, comprising a flexible rod terminated by a point intended to guide the instrument in the channel.
The instruments intended for the bore of the dental canals all have a point at the end of the useful part. This point is intended to guide the instrument during its progression in the channel and, in principle, to allow the rod to cross any curves of the channel by bending the rod of the instrument. However, this point is formed by the end of a cone whose axis coincides with the axis of the stem of the instrument. When the curvature of the channel reaches a certain degree, the point abuts against the outside of the curve of the channel and tends to penetrate into the wall of the channel. It has been proposed to remedy this drawback by rounding the tip, which gives a foam tip, or by providing a frustoconical part between the rod and the conical end or by closing the cone and rounding its end, which gives a tip elongated foam.
The passage of certain curves nevertheless remains difficult.
The present invention aims to facilitate the progression of a boring instrument in a curved channel, in particular when this curve seems impassable by known types of points.
The instrument according to the invention is characterized in that said tip is located between the axis of the rod and its envelope and that the instrument comprises means for locating its angular position.
By angularly orienting the instrument so that the tip of the instrument is located on the inside of the curve to be crossed, the tip of the instrument will not abut against the outside of the curve, because the instrument will have already flexed long before the tip meets the wall of the canal.
The tip is preferably located substantially closer to the envelope of the rod than the axis thereof.
In the instruments intended for the bore of the channels, the end of the edge, generally helical, with which the rod of the instrument is provided is cut on the junction circle of the rod with its conical end. This end of the edge is particularly aggressive and depending on the aggressiveness of this edge and the degree of curvature of the channel, it can then form a hole primer in the wall of the channel, primer hole which can be quite difficult to cross. thereafter.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the tip is formed by the intersection of a cone and a curved surface, in particular cylindrical tangent to a generatrix of the rod. The distance, measured parallel to the axis of the rod, between the point of tangency to said generator and the point is at least equal to the diameter of the rod at this point of tangency. The formation of the tip according to the invention predisposes the blade of the instrument to a natural curvature oriented towards the inside of the curve of the canal, an important characteristic which, combined with the absence of cutting edge on the curved surface of said tip, promotes the crossing of the obstacle.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention and a variant thereof.
Fig. 1 is a side view of the end of an instrument.
Fig. 2 is a view of the same end in direction A.
Fig. 3 is a section on III-III of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 shows a similar section of an alternative embodiment.
Fig. 5 shows the progression of the end of the instrument in a dental canal curve.
The instrument, the rod 1 of which is partially shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, has been shown to be smooth, but it will generally be provided with a helical cutting edge as is the case with known instruments. The end of the rod 1 is formed by the intersection of a cone 2 with an axis parallel to the axis of the rod 1 and a non-circular cylindrical surface 3 tangent to a generator 4 of the rod 1 in one point 5. The intersection edge 6, in the shape of a rounded point, is located between the axis a of the rod 1 and its envelope 7, closer to this envelope than to the axis a. The cylindrical surface 3 thus forms a kind of incomplete rounded bevel. The distance L, measured parallel to the axis a, between the point of tangency 5 and the end 6 is greater than the diameter of the rod at the point of tangency 5.
In the variant shown in section in FIG. 4, the surface 3 min has the same curvature in vertical profile as the curve 3, but it is also curved, which improves the adaptation of the surface 3 min to the wall of the channel. dental.
It is necessary to know the angular position of the instrument to take advantage of its asymmetrical tip and for this purpose the instrument is provided with a locating means preferably constituted by an index located on the handle of the tool. This locating means could however also be provided on the stem of the instrument.
The advantage of the instrument according to the invention is shown in FIG. 5. In solid lines, a dental canal having a curvature has been represented schematically. In mixed lines, three successive positions have been represented 1 min, 1 min min and 1 min. min min of the rod of the instrument progressing in curve 8. In the 1 min position, the instrument has not yet undergone bending. The curved surface 3 has just come into contact against the outside of the curve 8, without the tip of the instrument touching the wall of the channel. If one continues to push the instrument, the tendency to the natural curvature of the blade generated by the execution of the surface 3 predisposes the instrument to bend towards the inside of the curve of the channel.
One thus easily passes to the position 1 min min and the position 1 min min min by sliding on the external curve of the channel of a pre-curved surface and devoid of teeth. The instrument smoothly crossed the relatively strong curve 8.
The axis of the cone 2 could be distinct from the axis a of the rod and even oblique relative to this axis.
Obtaining a point offset relative to the axis of the instrument can be achieved by other means than those described above, in particular by all kinds of combinations of curved or flat surfaces. The instrument stem can be cylindrical or conical.
