DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a ski boot comprising a shell of at least semi-rigid material consisting of a lower part comprising the sole and surrounding the foot and at least one upper part articulated on the lower part around a transverse axis , so that it can tilt forwards, an elastic device being disposed between said articulated upper part and said lower part of the shell so as to offer an elastic resistance to the inclination of the upper part towards the 'before.
Ski boots of this type are found on the market, in which the elastic device consists of a block of rubber working under compression. The elastic resistance of this rubber block is constant. Many skiers would like to have the possibility of modifying the elastic resistance of this rubber block according to their way of skiing and / or the snow conditions.
It is certainly known from US Pat. No. 3,619,914 to mount a helical spring at the rear of the shoe, the hardness of which can be adjusted by means of a nut. However, such a device at the rear cannot be mounted on the shoes said to have rear entry, that is to say the shoes having a hinged rear cover and tiltable towards the rear to open the shoe. Such a device could be mounted at the front, but taking into account the necessary force of the spring and the length necessary for adjustment, it would be too bulky. The spring must also be sheltered from snow in a closed tube, since the ice that could form in the spring would prevent its proper functioning.
The object of the present invention is to produce a shoe comprising at the front an elastic resistance to flexion capable of being modified and produced by simple means and of small bulk and in particular comprising no helical spring.
The shoe according to the invention is characterized in that the
elastic device comprises an uncompressed elastic element
ble, means for supporting and guiding this elastic element em
fishing said elastic member to work in buckling and
adjustable means for limiting the length of the part of the element
elastic, liable to deform in expansion.
The non-compressible elastic element can be made simple
by a rubber bar provided with an axial passage
poured by a telescopic guide pin, the adjustment means
being constituted by a piece of tube mounted sliding on a
support and coming to surround a more or less long part of the
rubber bar.
Such a device is very simple, easy to execute, insensitive to snow and ice, because even if the elastic element is surrounded at rest by a shell of ice, it is immediately broken during the expansion of the elastic element. The adjustment is also easy to carry out and can be carried out continuously between a position
where the elasticity is maximum and a position in which the elasticity is zero, that is to say in which the shoe is rigid.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a ski boot equipped with a device according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a detailed perspective view, broken away, of the elastic device.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view along III-III of the elastic device.
The ski boot represented in FIG. 1 comprises a semi-rigid plastic shell made up of a lower part 1 comprising the sole and surrounding the foot and the heel and of two upper parts 2 and 3 articulated on the lower part 1 around a transverse axis 4, approximately at the joint of the foot to the leg. These parts 2 and 3 are of approximately semi-cylindrical shape and fit into one another to surround the ankle of the skier. They are kept closed by a loop 5 which can be of any known type. The rear articulated part 3 can be tilted back so as to allow the shoe to be put on. Inside the shoe is disposed a liner 6 of compressible and soft material.
The upper parts 2 and 3 being articulated on the lower part 1, they can tilt forward when skiing. Opposed to this inclination is the elastic resistance of an elastic device 7 fixed to the lower part of the shell 1.
This elastic device 7 comprises a base 8 made of metal or any other rigid and resistant material, of prismatic shape of rectangular section and fixed by its base to the shoe by two rivets 9 and 10 embedded in holes 11 and 12. This oblique prismatic piece 8 has an axial tubular extension 13 the interior of which is extended in the base 8 by an axial, blind hole 14. On the tubular extension 13 is mounted a rubber bar 15 of the same rectangular section as the base 8 and extending that -this. To this end, the rubber bar 15 has an axial cylindrical hole 16 of diameter slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the tubular extension 13, so that it is retained on this tubular extension 13.
The upstream end of the rubber bar 15 is capped with a metal cap 17 integral with a rod 18 passing through the axial hole 16 of the bar 15 and freely engaging in the tubular extension 13 by forming with the latter a telescopic axis supporting and guiding the rubber bar 15, preventing this bar 15 from bending or buckling when an axial pressure is exerted on the cap 17. On and around the base 8 is mounted a tubular element of rectangular section 19 sliding on the base 8 and on the rubber bar 15 which extends this base. This element 19 constitutes a cursor and it is provided for this purpose with lateral grooves 20 facilitating its actuation.
In the example shown, the cursor 19 is retained by simple friction on the rubber bar 15. It could however also slide without friction on the rubber bar 15 and be retained on the base 8 by a spring or a ball mounted on spring cooperating with notches provided on the base 8, or by any other known means.
The cap 17 is in contact with a bearing surface 21 formed on the part 2 of the shell, and perpendicular to the axis of the rubber bar 15. The upper face of the base 8 is further provided with graduations 22 allowing to locate the position of the cursor 19.
The shoe is shown at rest. When the skier bends the leg, the articulated part of the hull pivots forward around the joint 4, in the direction of the arrow by exerting pressure on the device 7 by its face 21. The rubber bar 15 is then deforms in the only possible way, that is to say in expansion.
This expansion can however only occur on the part of the rubber which is not surrounded by the slider 19. However, the shorter the length of the free part of the rubber bar 15, the higher its resistance to deformation. The elastic device 7 therefore behaves like an elastic element whose elasticity constant is variable. The elasticity can be varied continuously or by notches if the cursor moves by notches on the base 8. The range of adjustment of the elasticity can be relatively very large for a relatively short length of the rubber bar 15.
This adjustment range also extends between a value where the elasticity is high, that is to say the articulation of the shoe is very flexible, and a value where the elasticity is zero, that is to say that is, when the rubber bar 15 is completely surrounded by the slider 19. Such an adjustment range cannot be obtained by means of a metal helical spring.
If it is desired to have a position in which the upper part of the shoe is completely free to bend forward, it is possible to mount the elastic device 7 on the shoe so that it can be moved away from the face d support 21 by pivoting it on its base either in a horizontal plane or in a vertical plane. It suffices for this purpose to mount the pivoting base 8 on a base, the locking in the operating position can be done by any known means, for example a bayonet system.
The device shown is susceptible of numerous variants.
It is in particular possible to vary infinitely the shape of the section of the elastic bar 15. The guiding of this bar can be carried out by two telescopic axes similar to the axis 13/18 or more.
This guidance could also be done from the outside of the elastic bar 15, for example by lateral arms integral with the head 17.
The elastic element proper can consist of any material or combination of non-compressible elastic materials, elastomers or not. One could use for example a tight elastic envelope containing a liquid.
The elastic device could also be of generally cylindrical shape, which would make it possible to produce the slider 19 in the form of a nut mounted on a base having at least one threaded cylindrical part. The prismatic or cylindrical shape is not compulsory, but it suffices that the movable tubular element can be moved along the elastic element. The elastic device could thus be produced in a helical or twisted form. In general, the length of the part of the elastic element liable to deform in expansion could be modified by any mechanical limiting means, for example by movable lateral stops perpendicular to the axis of the elastic element. The construction shown in the drawing, however, seems to be the simplest solution.
