Fig. 4 zeigt eine weitere erfindungsgemässe Schneidengeometrie.
Fig. 6 zeigt eine Variante in der Scheidekanten-Kontur.

The invention relates to a cutting device for contouring dental matrices made of plastics and metals, such as copper, nickel, stainless steel.
When building dental fillings in the entire crown area of a tooth, foil-shaped matrices are usually used, which are placed around the tooth as an originally thin band, U-shaped or ring-shaped and fixed with suitable instruments. Such matrices often consist of metals such as copper, nickel or stainless steel. With the introduction of tooth fillings based on plastics, especially one-component plastics, the polymerization of which is caused or at least initiated by light or UV radiation, such film-shaped dental matrices are also used, including those that are transparent to light and UV which are specially made for the shape of the tooth to be filled, for example according to PCT publication Wo 85/01434.
If such foil-shaped dental matrices are used to shape the filling, it is necessary that the matrix rests so closely on the tooth that subsequent reworking of the filling can be kept to a minimum. Especially with plastic fillings in the cervical area, where reworking is extremely difficult and extremely unpleasant for the patient, the matrix must follow the tooth contour exactly. This means that the matrix is cut out according to the individual and local shape, for example the gingiva. So far, the dentist has been doing this with curved scissors.
However, if he has to use the scissors several times, which is certainly the rule, jagged cuts often occur, with the result that the patient is injured on the gums and the matrix also does not fit properly on the tooth, especially in the cervical region.
The object on which the present invention is based was therefore to create an instrument which, in the case of film-shaped dental matrices, provides clean, jag-less cutouts, and with which these cutouts can be precisely adapted to the individual and local shapes of the gingiva.
The solution to the problem consists in the pliers-like structure of the device, two jaws forming the jaws of the pliers and these jaws each carrying an arcuate cutting edge at their upper end. The cutting edges mentioned can be designed for clamping or shearing.
Exemplary embodiments of the inventive concept are explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawing. Show it
1 an inventive cutting device in oblique supervision,
2 is a plan view of a jaw of the cutting device from the cutting side,
3 shows a first cutting edge geometry according to the invention,
4 shows a second cutting edge geometry according to the invention,
5 shows the cutting geometry according to FIG. 4 in engagement with a film,
6 shows a form variant to FIG. 2,
7 is a plan view of a variant of FIG. 1
8 shows a variant of FIG. 2.
1 is designed like a pair of pliers with 2 handles 1, 2, which converge in a swivel joint 3 and are continued in the jaws 4, 5. The jaws 4, 5 each consist of a flat base plate 6, 7 with a terminal cutting edge 8, 9. The cutting edges are curved and have, for example, the shape as shown in FIG. 2.
2 shows a top view of the jaw 5 according to FIG. 1. The cutting edge 9, as the upper end of the base plate 7, forms an arc, for example that of a parabola with an oblique axis of symmetry A. The jaw 4 with its cutting edge 8 forms the exact play image, so that the mouth of the cutting device is formed from the jaws 4, 5 can be closed such that the corresponding cutting edges 8, 9 lie one on top of the other.
3 shows the bite of the cutting edges 8, 9: a film 10, which is inserted between the cutting edges 8, 9, receives a bite out by pressing the handles 1, 2 in accordance with the shape of the cutting edges 8, 9. The material is separated so on the principle of constriction and pinching.
4 shows a further cutting edge geometry according to the invention. Here the base plate 7 protrudes slightly beyond the base plate 6. Instead of tapering, the base plate 7 here has a shearing cutting edge 9.
The upper edge of the base plate 6 is designed as a counterpart to it and is the shearing cutting edge 8.
FIG. 5 shows the variant according to the invention according to FIG. 4 engaging in a film 10. The contouring of the shear edges 11, 12 is the same as in the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2.
6 shows a variant in the cutting edge contour.
The axis of symmetry A of the shape coincides here with the longitudinal axis of the entire cutting device. It is also included in the inventive concept to mirror the contour according to FIG. 2 - in connection with the cutting edge geometry according to FIG. 4.
A further variant of the cutting device according to the invention is shown in FIG. 7
Mouth formed from jaws 4 and 5. They are not designed flat here, but in the shape of a cylinder arch, for example as circular cylinder segments. This facilitates the contouring of tubular dental matrices in that they suffer much less deformation than when they are machined with a flat cutting geometry. These arcuate base plates 13, 14 have cutting edge geometries, for example according to FIGS. 2, 3, 4, 6.
Another variant of the cutting geometry is shown in FIG. 8. Following the longer branch of the parabolic curve according to FIG. 2, the cutting edge 9 bends to form an arc 15 with a relatively small radius of curvature. As a result, the arc of the cutting edges (8, 9) becomes S-shaped. Any sharp corners that may arise can be rounded with this cutting edge geometry.
