As far as the mechanism of action of the additive is concerned, we have found that the composition according to the invention quickly becomes gaseous due to the action of a-naphthoquinone, which promotes sublimation, and also reaches the other parts of the heating devices, the heat regenerators and the chimneys. Here it comes as a result of molecular diffusion and adsorption between the wall of the heater and the deposits, after which it develops carbon dioxide. Due to the effect of the evolving gas, the deposits separate from the metal surface.
The cleaning of the heat regenerators and chimneys was not achievable with the additives known up to now. The composition according to the invention thus means a significant advance over the known additives.
The composition according to the invention not only significantly reduces the conversion of so2-so3 than the known additives, but almost eliminates it by reducing the SO3 formed during the combustion and by obtaining the melting point of the slag a dry, leaky slag is obtained. The composition according to the invention also reacts directly with the sulfur oxides. Complexes develop during the reaction, which do not cause deposits or corrosion; this eliminates the corrosion occurring at high temperatures. It was found that the composition according to the invention functions as a negative catalyst in the reaction S02-S03. As is known, the temperature of the exhaust gas in the heat regenerators of the heaters drops below the acid dew point, which promotes the formation of sulfurous acid on the metal surfaces and so the corrosion occurs at low temperatures. This film-like sulfurous acid can cause deposits of acid soot, which can ultimately lead to business interruptions and energy losses. Mechanical engineering solutions have been used to prevent corrosion occurring at low temperatures, but these are not economical since gases containing heat energy always escape into the air when using these solutions, i.e. there is a loss of energy.
The additive composition according to the invention reduces the necessary excess air due to its combustion-improving catalytic effect, and thus also reduces the flow velocity of the exhaust gas. As a result of the smaller flow velocity, the number of
Inertia shocks are less, and this reduces the formation of deposits. The composition according to the invention prevents the formation of SO 3 and completely neutralizes the sulphurous acid on the parts with low temperatures of the heat regenerators. Soiling can be eliminated by not making the metal surface sticky. This can be achieved in that the additive composition keeps the dew point of the sulfurous acid below the operating temperature. In this way, the heating device can function with a minimal exhaust gas temperature and chimney temperature and at the same time utilize a maximum amount of energy.
During the tests we found that good results can already be obtained by using 0.5 kg of composition 15 according to the invention per 1000 kg of fuel. Based on the tests, it is advisable to use 0.5 to 0.8 kg of combustion-improving additive composition per 1000 kg of fuel, depending on the quality of the fuels.
