PATENT CLAIM E
1. Rotary evaporator with lifting device, characterized in that it comprises a piston (3) which is connected by a connecting tube (4) to a condenser (2) for the rotary movement thereof, and a vertically movable support (6) for holding the rotary evaporator at a given angle, which is equipped with a drive (9) to move it up or down.
2. Evaporator according to claim 1, characterized in that the carrier (6) is provided with an internal thread (18) at its lower end and that the drive (9) has a screw spindle (14).
3. Evaporator according to claim 1, characterized in that the drive (9) has a lower and an upper limit switch (16, 17) which limit the movement of the carrier (6).
4. Evaporator according to claim 3, characterized in that the positions of the lower and / or upper limit switches (16, 17) are adjustable.
The invention relates to a rotary evaporator according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
In general, a known type of rotary evaporator has an oval-shaped cooking bottle or flask, a connecting tube and a condenser, all of which are made of glass. The connecting pieces of the elements are sealed with rubber seals on the glass surfaces that meet. Since the rotary evaporator is operated at negative pressure, the connecting surfaces of the glass surfaces which meet, sealed with rubber seals, are firmly connected to one another under the influence of the atmospheric pressure which acts on the outer surfaces of the connecting pieces of the elements indicated. The rotating device for rotating the parts is mounted on a carrier.
In this embodiment, if a sample located in the oval shaped flask is to be heated in a water bath, it is necessary to remove the oval shaped flask from the connecting pipe. However, this is troublesome when the oval shaped piston is attached to the lower part of the carrier. It is therefore desirable to create a device in which the evaporator itself is raised to an upper position.
As a lifting device, a manually operated lever mechanism in the form of a lifting arm is already known, which is itself connected to the rotary evaporator mounted on a carrier, or a lifting arm is used which serves as a carrier for the water bath and with which the water bath is moved in the vertical direction by hand and can be locked in a desired position. With this lifting device, however, it is necessary to position the rotary evaporator by eye, which reduces the working speed.
In view of this, it is an object of the present invention to provide a rotary evaporator in which a water bath and a flask can be adjusted very simply and easily relative to one another. For this purpose, the lifting device should be easy to use.
In the following description of an embodiment, the invention is explained with the accompanying drawings.
1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of Fig. 1, showing essential parts of the embodiment.
FIG. 1 shows a rotary evaporator 1 which has a condenser 2, an oval-shaped piston 3 and a connecting tube 4 which is connected to the condenser 2 and the piston 3. The connecting pipe has a rotating device 5, by means of which the oval-shaped piston 3 is rotated so that the speed of rotation of the piston 3 changes continuously. The rotary evaporator itself 1 or the connecting tube 4 are attached to a vertically movable carrier 6 with a fastening element 1 a and a lever 5 a, with the aid of which the angle of inclination of the rotary evaporator 1 relative to the carrier 6 can be changed.
The rotating device 5 has a drive with the aid of which the oval-shaped piston 3 is rotated, and a withdrawal device with which the piston 3 can be withdrawn from the connecting pipe 4, which is connected to the piston 3 with the aid of rubber seals under vacuum, so that a high air seal is guaranteed.
A water bath 7 and a heating device 7 a for heating the water contained in the water bath 7 are arranged under the oval-shaped piston 3.
The vertically movable carrier 6 is connected via a thread to a drive 9 which is fixedly mounted on a base plate 8. In particular, as shown in Fig. 2, a motor M is mounted on the base plate 8 within the drive, which motor is connected via a belt drive to a screw spindle 14 which is mounted in two bearings 15 and on its upper part in order to carry out the vertical sliding movement an external thread 14 a and at its lower part carries a driven pulley 12 with a large diameter, which is connected via a belt 13 to a drive pulley 11 with a small diameter, which sits on the drive shaft of the motor M.
Thus, the drive pulley 11, the driven pulley 12 and the belt 13 together form the belt drive, with the aid of which the force from the motor M is transmitted to the screw spindle 14 at a reduced speed.
In the vicinity of the upper end of the threaded part 14 a of the screw spindle 14 is an upper limit switch 16 and in the vicinity of the lower end of the threaded part 14 a, a lower limit switch 17 is adjustably arranged in a housing 10 which is fixed on the base plate 8. The switches are adjustable. The lifting device 6 a is slidably mounted in the upper part of the housing 10 a and connected to the lower part of the carrier 6 to form a structural unit. The lifting device 6 a is provided at its lower end with an internal thread 18 which is adapted to the external thread 14 a of the screw spindle and can be brought into engagement therewith. The lifting device also has a radially outwardly projecting projection 19 which can be brought into engagement with the upper and lower limit switches 16, 17.
The carrier 6 is equipped on its outer circumferential surface with an axially extending groove 20, in which a guide pin 21 engages detachably fastened in the upper part 10 a of the housing 10, which guides in the axially extending groove 20 and serves to rotate the carrier 6 to prevent while maintaining the same axial mobility, such that the rotational movement of the screw spindle 14 is converted into a vertical movement of the carrier 6.
1 also shows an electrical switch 22 which can be arranged on the housing part 10 which receives the lifting device 9 as a whole and which can connect the motor M to a power source (not shown).
The switch 22 is connected to the upper and lower limit switches 16, 17 arranged in the lifting device 9 in such a way that when the switch 22 is actuated the motor is switched on and the screw spindle is set forward in rotation. About the forward rotation of the screw spindle 14, the lower part 6 a of the carrier 6 is moved upward and can be locked in the desired position by switching off the current by the switch 22. The upper setting of the lower parts 6 a of the carrier 6 is predetermined by the annular projection and the arrangement of the upper limit switch with which the projection 19 is brought into contact to open the circuit. On the other hand, if the lifting device 6 a is lowered, the ring-shaped projection 19 touches the lower limit switch 17, as a result of which the motor M is switched off.
At the same time, the bottom position of the lower part 6 a is fixed by the stop of the projection 19 on the limit switch 17 and the motor M is ready for operation to effect a new forward rotary movement of the spindle or a new upward stroke of the drive.
The distance between the upper and lower limit switches 16, 17, which limits the vertical stroke of the lower part 6 a, is preferably selected so that it is approximately 1200 mm.
As is apparent from the above, an essential advantage of the present invention is to provide a lifting device for a rotary evaporator, in which a sample in the oval-shaped flask 3 is heated in a water bath 7 and which enables the sample to be subsequently carried out by lifting the piston 3 out of this again. Here, the lifting device is actuated by switching on the switch 22 connected to the motor M in such a way that the carrier 6 is raised together with the rotary evaporator, so that the oval-shaped piston 3 can be pulled off the connecting pipe 4. The handling of the lifting device is therefore uncomplicated and the operating effort is low.
In summary, it can be stated that the device constructed in accordance with the lifting device according to the invention is distinguished by a clear construction and simple operation in use.
