The subject of the present invention is an automatic mechanism of a clarinet with a Boehm system in E flat, re, C, B flat, A, viola or basset horn, comprising on its upper body a twelfth key opening a torch hole , a movable ring on the bump of the thumb and on the lower body, actuated by the right or left little finger, a low E key / if medium, low F / medium and low F sharp / medium sharp.

The clarinets offered on the world market, whatever their keying system (Boehm or other), have in common an inequality of timbre and intonation on the notes if flat, as well as if, do and do sharp bugle (written in mid range in treble clef). On the other hand, the E and F notes are often too low.

It is known that the weakness of the throat flat b comes from the double function of the twelfth hole, which should produce perfect twelfths as well as the medium b flat. This double function is obviously contradictory because for the twelfths, this hole is only suitable for the clarion or bugle clarion. It follows that the C sharp, do and if stamp badly and that the twelfths mi / si, fa / do and F sharp, do and if the stamp badly and that the twelfths mi / si, fa / do and F sharp / C sharp are too large. Manufacturers must compromise between the intonation and the timbre of these notes:

- Either mid and low bass too low to get right if and medium;

- either mid and low grave just, but if and medium too high;

- either a compromise between the two already existing compromises.

The bad tone of the middle bugle if, do and do sharp comes from the fact that the usual twelfth hole is placed too close to the mouth. For the throat flat, this same hole is too small and also placed too close to the mouth. It sounds deaf, muffled, without timbre and requires complicated additional fingering to improve it.

The object of the invention is to remedy all these weaknesses while retaining normal fingering.

To this end, the automatic mechanism for clarinet is modified as defined by the claim.

In summary, the goal is achieved essentially by means of an additional torch hole, a transmission rod, a swing, a lever, a key and an extension of the key of the do / fa, as defined in the independent claim.

The mechanism of the partially represented clarinet comprises, on its upper body, a twelfth key 1 opening a torch or twelfth hole 25, a movable ring 2 on the thumb bump and, on the lower body, actionable by the right or left ear, a low E key / if medium 21, a low F key / C medium 20 and a low sharp key / C sharp medium 22, as the known clarinets.

The upper body further comprises an additional torch hole 24 located approximately midway between the twelfth hole 25 and the thumb ring 2, this additional hole 24 being open in place of the existing twelfth hole 25 during the emission of the notes B flat throat, B, C and C sharp bug written in middle of staff in treble clef. The opening of this additional hole 24 is obtained by the action of the thumb on the twelfth key spatula 1 or the simultaneous action of the thumb on the thumb ring 2 and on the twelfth key spatula 1 combined with a action of one of the two little fingers on the key of low E / if medium 21 or on the key of low F / C medium 20 or on the key of low F sharp / C sharp medium 22. The action of the little fingers is transmitted to the additional hole 24 by rods 6, 8 going from the bottom body to the top body of the clarinet. These rods are set in motion on the lower body by a cam lever 23 secured to the key of the low F / medium C 20. These rods 6, 8 open the additional hole 24 by means of a lever 5 closing the existing twelfth hole and a swing 7 connecting the lever 5 to an additional lever 4 opening the additional hole 24. The opening of this additional hole 24 by the twelfth key spatula 1 is ensured by a second additional lever 3 mounted on the pivot axis of the thumb ring 2, on which acts a spring 13 raising the additional lever 4 of the additional hole 24 against the action of a spring 12 tending to open the existing twelfth hole 25. This action the additional lever 3 is neutralized by pressing the thumb on the thumb ring 2. The swing 7 is mounted at the end of an arm 27 secured to the twelfth spanner 1.

this 7. The spring 14 must therefore be stronger than the springs 12 and 13 combined. The rod 6, and the lever 26 associated therewith, are held up by the low tension of a return spring 15. The half-inch ring 2 is lifted. The additional lever 3 is also held by the additional lever 4, itself locked by the twelfth key 1.

In the B flat bugle position, the thumb is lifted from the half-inch ring 2. The other half-ring 10 inch is fixed. The additional lever 3 is released. The twelfth key 1 is pressed and, by means of the rocker 7, causes the opening of the additional hole 24, thanks to the spring 13, stronger than the spring 12.

To obtain the notes of the bugle from the D, the thumb half-ring 2 and the twelfth key 1 are pressed simultaneously, the additional lever 3 is neutralized by the thumb ring 2. The torch hole 25 opens by the action of the rocker 7, because the additional lever 4 is kept closed by the spring 12.

To obtain the notes si, do and do dièze clairon medium, we start from the same situation as before, but the lever 26 closes the lever 5, by actuation, on the bottom body of the key 20 and therefore opens the additional lever 4. This then functions as a twelfth hole for the middle B, C and C sharp improving considerably the timbre,

while provoking perfect twelfth relationships with the fundamental E, F and F sharp. The function of the additional lever 4, as a twelfth hole, can be interrupted by means of a part 11 (FIG. 7) pivotally mounted on the lower body. This is sometimes necessary in certain passages where the little finger of the right hand must remain pressed on the cam lever 23.

The throat throat thus produced by this new hole placed in the ideal place has a rich and stamped sound, melted on the whole, and can be lightened or darkened with additional fingering. By varying the diameter of this hole, it is perfectly possible to tune it according to the wishes of each instrumentalist.

Since the ratios of twelfth mi / si, fa / do and fa 5 sharp / C sharp are correct, these notes can be adjusted (from the point of view of intonation) to the rest of the air column. The sound of these notes is ample, breathless; their attack in the pianissimo is without difficulty. This system very audibly improves the homogeneity of the sounds going from the floor of the torch io all open to the bugle, a difficult passage requiring the musician to pay particular attention and work. In addition, especially on the clarinet in A, the fact that the low E and E are right is very significant.

The C produced by the combination of the B flat i5 throat fingering and the two trill keys, moved by the right index finger, has a better sound than the original one.

It is now possible to play two new mid 4th octaves:

- by fingering the 3rd octave G (thumb + index + middle finger + ring finger left hand, combined with one of the keys of B, C and bugle sharpers,

- by fingering the 3rd octave sol combined with the opening of the thumb hole.

The trill against-ut / against-ut sharp is easily possible by combining with the fingering of the against-ut one of the keys of if, do or do sharp bugle.
