8. Tapping device according to claim 4, characterized in that it comprises three coupling balls arranged at 120 'from each other and three connecting balls, also arranged at 120 from each other, interposed between the coupling balls.
The subject of the present invention is a tapping device comprising two parts which are angularly integral with one another, but axially movable relative to one another, one of which, leading, is arranged so as to be connected to drive means while the other, driven, is arranged so as to carry a tap, all so that, during tapping, the driven part moves axially relative to the driving part due to the difference between the advance of the driving part, produced by the drive means, and the advance of the driven part, produced by the natural advance of the tap, the apparatus further comprising means capable of angularly uncoupling said driving parts and driven when these occupy a relative longitudinal position located in the vicinity of the end of the axial stroke of the driven part.
Such tapping devices are known per se. Their defect lies in the fact that the uncoupling mechanism, which separates the part carrying the tap from the drive part at the end of its travel, causes, at the time of uncoupling, a shock which results in axial stresses to which the tap, capable of damaging the device, the tap or the thread being machined.
The object of the present invention is to remedy this drawback by providing a tapping device in which the uncoupling mechanism cannot exert any axial force on the part carrying the tap.
This object is achieved by the means defined in claim 1.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an axial section of a tapping device in the rest position.
Fig. 2 is a section of this device, perpendicular to its axis, along the line Il-Il of FIG. 1, on a smaller scale than this, and
fig. 3 is a section similar to that of FIG. 1, on the scale of FIG. 2, the device being shown in the uncoupling position.
The device shown comprises a driving part 1, in the shape of a bell, extended by a tail constituting a fitting intended to be engaged in the spindle of a machine tool.
The apparatus comprises a driven part 2, having the general shape of a shaft, engaged in part 1, and which is provided, at its anterior end, with a clamp 3 intended to receive a tap, not shown.
A coil spring 4 is engaged on a rod 5 secured to a stop ring 6 sliding in a recess 7 formed in the part 1. This spring 4 is supported, on the one hand, on an internal shoulder 2a of the part 2 and, on the other hand, on a nut 10 screwed to the end of the rod 5 to tend to keep the ring 6 and the part 2 applied axially against one another. A spring 8, bearing on the ring 6 and on the part 1, keeps the ring applied against a sleeve 9 housed in the recess 7. In the device's rest position, shown in FIG. 1, the spring 4 maintains the part 2 in abutment against the ring 6 itself held in abutment against the sleeve 9 by the spring 8.
The part 2, which is axially movable relative to the part 1, is angularly integral with it thanks to a disengageable connection mechanism comprising a ring 11. engaged on the part 2, inside the part 1, which moves axially on the part 2 by means of balls 12 held in place by a cage 13 formed by a sleeve interposed between the ring 11 and the part 2. This last mother carries a spring washer 14, of the Circlips type (registered trademark) , which serves as an axial stop for the ring 11. Three balls 15, arranged 120 from one another, are partially engaged both in three longitudinal grooves 16 presented by the part 2 and in three longitudinal grooves 17. facing the grooves 16, formed in the inner face of the ring 11.
Thus it is axially movable along the part 2 while being angularly integral with the latter.
The connection, which is uncouplable, between the ring 11 and the part 1 is ensured by three balls 18. arranged 120 from one another, interposed between the balls 15, housed in three seats 19 formed on the external lateral face of the ring 11, and which are also partially engaged in three longitudinal grooves 21 formed in the inner face of the part 1.
During tapping. the part 1, driven in rotation by the spindle of the machine, advances with the latter. Part 2 moves longitudinally under the effect of the thread itself, the thread screwing
in the workpiece. Being free axially, the part 2 can, if necessary, move at a speed different from that of the part 1, the axial movements of which are rigidly controlled by the machine. At the end of tapping, the advance of the spindle of the machine, and consequently of part 1 of the apparatus, is stopped, but the rotation continues, as does the advance of part 2 under the effect of tap. There is then a relative axial movement between parts I and 2.
When the part 2, with which the ring 11 and the balls 18 carried by it move axially, reaches the vicinity of its advance limit switch, in the position shown in FIG. 2, the balls 18 escape the grooves 21 whose length is determined accordingly, which interrupts the angular connection between the ring 11, and therefore the part 2, and the part 1, thus stopping the advance of the tap while allowing the machine to continue its rotation.
The balls then come to engage, under the effect of springs 20 interposed between them and the ring 11, in a toroidal annular groove 22 formed in the part I on which they then roll, which avoids any axial rebound of the ring 11 .
The uncoupling takes place without any shock or jerk, no axial force which could be applied to the balls 18 not transmitted to the tap, since the ring 11 carrying the balls is axially free on the part 2 carrying the latter. In addition, a coil spring 23, bearing against a shoulder of the part 2, is placed at the front of the ring 11 and absorbs the shocks that the latter could produce, at the end of the race, if it was projected towards the front when uncoupling takes place.
Finally, it should be noted that the device comprises a device generally designated by 24, known per se, operating like a ratchet, allowing the tap to return after reversing the direction of travel of the machine .
