EMI2.1
with an acylating agent which has the acyl radical X, which has the meaning given under formula (1), in a molar ratio of 1: 2.
In formula (1) in each of the two anthraquinone nuclei the X N H group is bonded to the outer benzene ring and the -NH link to the triazine residue is bonded to the inner benzene ring. The X-NH group and the -NH bridge member can independently of one another be in the a- or ss-position of the anthraquinone nucleus, although 1,5-disubstituted anthraquinones are excluded.
For R as alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, the following can be considered: methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, sec-butyl and tert-butyl. The acyl radical X is e.g. the remainder of an aromatic carboxylic acid or sulfonic acid, especially the benzene series, which is replaced by chlorine, nitro, methyl, methoxy and the like may be further substituted, or an alkanoyl or alkylsulfonyl radical which is substituted in the alkyl part by chlorine, nitro, phenyl and the like. can be further substituted. Examples of acyl radicals X are: benzoyl, p-chlorobenzoyl, p-nitrobenzoyl, p-phenylbenzoyl, benzenesulfonyl, p-toluenesulfonyl and acetyl.
The diaminoanthraquinone of the formula (2) to be used as the starting material is known. Also known are the alkylthio-dihalotriazines of the formula (3) to be used as starting materials. They can be obtained by reacting trihalogen-s-triazines with an alkali sulfide and subsequent reaction with an alkyl halide or by reacting trihalogen-s-triazines with alkyl mercaptans or with an appropriate alkali mercaptide.
Halogen Y is fluorine, chlorine and bromine. Particularly suitable acylating agents which have the acyl radical X, which has the meaning given under formula (1), are halides and anhydrides of aromatic and aliphatic carboxylic acids and sulfonic acids.
Examples include: benzoyl chloride, p-chlorobenzoyl chloride, benzenesulfonic acid chloride, naphthalene-1-carboxylic acid chloride, naphthalene-1-carboxylic acid anhydride and others. in the following list of possible reaction components mentioned compounds.
In order to avoid the formation of dicondensation product from 1 mol of diaminoanthraquinone and 2 mol of alkylthiodihalogen-s-triazine in the process according to the invention, it is necessary to carry out the reaction in such a way that the diaminoanthraquinone is always present in excess. This can be achieved by introducing the diaminoanthraquinone in solution or suspension and slowly dropping or pouring in the alkylthiodihalotriazine. Under this condition, the alkylthio-dihalogen-s-triazine reacts quickly
1 mole of diaminoanthraquinone to form a monocondensation product and then with another mole of diaminoanthraquinone to form the intermediate of formula (4).
A dicondensation product of 1 mol of diaminoanthraquinone and 2 mol of alkylthio-dihalogen-triazine can no longer arise in this embodiment, since on the one hand the second halogen on the s-triazine residue is much less reactive than the first, and on the other hand the second still free H2N group on the anthraquinone nucleus is less easily condensable. The reaction is preferably carried out at an elevated temperature in an inert organic solvent. The reaction temperature depends essentially on the boiling point of the solvent. Suitable inert organic solvents are preferably nitrobenzene and o-dichlorobenzene. In order to complete the condensation between the alkylthio-dihalogen-s-triazine and the diaminoanthraquinone, it is expedient to use a condensation catalyst, e.g. Pyridine to add to the solution.
The reaction of the intermediate of formula (4) with the acylating agent which has the acyl radical X also takes place at elevated temperature and preferably in the same solvent as the condensation between the alkylthio-dihalogen-s-triazine and the diaminoanthraquinone. The acylating agent is optionally added to the reaction mixture together with a condensation catalyst.
A preferred embodiment of the process according to the invention is thus characterized in that, at elevated temperature, the 2,4-dihalo-6-alkylthio-striazine, dissolved in an inert organic solvent, is added at low speed to the solution or suspension of the diaminoanthraquinone in an inert organic Solvent is added, then when all 2,4-dihalo-6-alkylthio-s-triazine has been added and the condensation is almost complete, adds a condensation catalyst and completes the condensation and finally, if appropriate, adds the acylating agent together with a condensation catalyst to the reaction mixture and the condensation leads to the end.
Nitrobenzene or o-dichlorobenzene is preferably used as the inert organic solvent.
The following may be mentioned as starting materials which can be used to prepare the vat dyes of the formula (1) by the process according to the invention: diaminoanthraquinones of the formula (2) 1,8-diaminoanthraquinone, 1, 7-diaminoanthraquinone, 1, 6-diaminoanthraquinone, 2, 6-diaminoanthraquinone, 2,7-diaminoanthraquinone.

Instead of a uniform diaminoanthraquinone of the formula (2), a mixture of diaminoanthraquinones can also be used, e.g. a mixture of 1,5-, 1,6- and 1,7-diaminoanthraquinone. Mixtures of diaminoanthraquinones, such as are produced in the technical presentation of diaminoanthraquinones by dinitration of anthraquinone and subsequent reduction, are particularly suitable.
Such mixtures contain e.g. in addition to the predominant amounts of 1,8-, 1,5-, 1,7- and 1,6-diaminoanthraquinones, small amounts of 2,7- and 2,8-diaminoanthraquinone (SS isomers) and l-aminoanthraquinone , or in addition to 1,6-, 1,8-, 1,7-, 2,6-, 2,7- and 1,5-diaminoanthraquinone they also contain small amounts of 1-aminoanthraquinone, 2-aminoanthraquinone and 1- Amino-2-, -4-, -5-and-8-hydroxyanthraquinone.
The method according to the invention has an advantage over the known prior art. According to the known method of manufacturing vat dyes of the formula (1), the process of German Offenlegungsschrift 24 39 950, a 1-amino-5-acylaminoanthraquinone is used and reacted with an alkylthio-dichlorotriazine. The l-amino-5-acylamino-anthraquinone used as the starting material is obtained by reacting 1,5-diaminoanthraquinone with an acylating agent. A lot of 1,5-dicondensation product is formed in this reaction and therefore a considerable amount of starting material is lost.
In contrast, almost theoretical yields are achieved in the process of the present invention. There are therefore no losses of starting material, so that the end products can be produced more cheaply than according to the prior art.
The vat dyes of the formula (1) prepared by the process according to the invention are suitable for dyeing and printing a wide variety of materials, in particular for dyeing and printing fibers made from natural or regenerated cellulose in the presence of reducing agents, such as, for example, Dithionite.
The dyeings obtained are notable for excellent properties, and the fastness properties are generally very good, especially the fastness to light, water, chlorine and soda. The dyes reserve polyester fibers well or soil them tone on tone, which makes them suitable for dyeing mixed fibers mixed with disperse dyes.
The dyes can also be used as pigments. Thanks to their favorable properties, they can be used for a wide variety of pigment applications, e.g. in finely divided form for dyeing artificial silk and viscose or cellulose ethers or esters or of super polyamides or super polyurethanes or polyesters in the dope, as well as for producing colored paints or varnish formers, solutions or products made of acetyl cellulose, nitrocellulose, natural resins or synthetic resins, such as polymerisation resins or condensation resins, e.g.
Aminoplates, alkyd resins, phenoplasts, polyolefins such as polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyacrylonitrile, rubber, casein, silicone and silicone resins.
In addition, they can be used advantageously in the manufacture of colored pencils, cosmetic preparations or laminating boards.
In the following examples, the parts mean parts by weight, the percentages by weight, unless stated otherwise, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
