REVENDICATIONS

Machine according to claim 1, characterized in that it is equipped with an adjustable distributor comprising guide vanes ensuring the adjustment of the hydraulic machine during turbine operation, the mantle being lifted and placed in a position sufficiently clear for do not influence the setting.
The subject of the invention is a vertical axis hydroelectric machine operating as a turbine, pump or pump-turbine for the arrangement of low river falls, the upstream water chamber of which is open.
Known machines of this type include, in addition to an upstream grid for retaining the solid bodies entrained by water, cofferdams or a plane valve for closing the upstream channel of the machine. These installations intended to make it possible to stop the machine, to empty it and to access the mechanical parts of the machine to carry out maintenance works are large, require large and expensive operating parts and civil engineering works .
In order to remedy these drawbacks, the machine according to the invention is characterized in that it is surmounted by an elongated mantle surrounding its axis of rotation, bearing at its base against a ring secured to its outer envelope and extending at its top to an area located above the maximum water level in the chamber, the jacket insulating in this position the driving wheel of the water in the chamber and being able to be moved upwards, its base s' moving away from its support surface and allowing water to pass under it during operation of the machine.
It is thus possible to economically equip low waterfalls in rivers with hydraulic machines which, while being extremely simple, nevertheless benefit from the facilities necessary for their rational exploitation and maintenance.
The attached drawing shows, schematically and by way of example
ple, an embodiment of the invention and variants.
Fig. 1 is a view in longitudinal section showing a
low-fall installation where the turbine is a wheel machine
Kaplan, his isolation coat being cylindrical.
Fig. 2 is a view in longitudinal section of the first variant in which the mantle is frustoconical.
Fig. 3 is a view in longitudinal section of the second variant representing a hydraulic machine of the Francis type with an adjustment distributor, the mantle being cylindrical.
In general, the hydraulic installation comprises an upstream water body 1, a downstream water body 2 and a grid 3 placed upstream preventing the entry of foreign bodies of too large dimensions. The water of the hydraulic machine passes between fixed spacers 4.
In the variant of FIG. 3, these spacers 4 are vertical, carried by the lower bottom of the turbine. The upper bottom 27 of the latter carried by these spacers constitutes the bottom of an adjustable distributor 26, controlled by servos not shown and carries the guide bearing 28 of the machine. The outer casing of the hydraulic machine represented by the outer ring 23 is sealed in the masonry of the construction. This ring comprises a support ring 14, the upper face of which is horizontal, the face on which the mantle rests when the machine is closed.
In the three constructions shown in the drawing, the construction according to FIGS. 1 and 2 is simpler. The machine does not include an adjustable valve. A sealing mantle 5 of cylindrical 6 or conical shape 7 extends from its base 13 which, when the machine is stopped, presses against the ring 14 up to the top 8 which is above the upstream level 1 of the water which fills the chamber 9. The driving wheel 10 is, in the case of FIGS. 1 and 2, a wheel
Kaplan; it can still be a Francis wheel, as shown in fig. 3. This wheel turns around a vertical axis of rotation 11. The torque is transmitted to the electric machine 29 by means of a shaft 12.
As in the case of fig. 1, the upper coupling can comprise a speed multiplier 30 making it possible to increase the speed of rotation of the electric machine, which is a generator, during operation in the turbine or a motor during operation in the pump. This speed multiplier 30 makes it possible to reduce the dimensions and the price of the electric machine.
The mantle pressing via its base 13 on the support ring 14 is held in place by two sets of two connecting rods 15 and 16, placed one in front of the other. Only two connecting rods are visible in the drawing, the other two being behind. Each of the connecting rods 15 and 16 has on the left an articulation 17, 18, linking it to the mantle, and on the right a bearing articulation 19, 20 fixed relative to the masonry of the chamber 9. The set of two sets of four articulations 17 , 18, 19, 20 constitutes two parallelograms keeping the mantle parallel to itself.
A servomotor 25, visible in FIG. 2, controlled by a device not shown in the drawing, acts on one or the other of these members by means of a connecting rod 24, to move it upwards and release the base 13 from the mantle of the ring support 14, in order to let the water pass through the hydraulic machine, whether the latter operates as a turbine or as a pump. The water entering the machine at 21 during turbine operation, passes through it and, passing through the suction pipe 22, exits downstream, and vice versa during pump operation.
The operation of the installation is as follows: when the machine is stopped, the mantle 5, 6 or 7 is lowered and rests by its base 13 on the support 14 secured to the outer ring 23 of the hydraulic machine. It isolates it from the upstream water. The interior of the machine is empty, the interior water level corresponds to the downstream level. In this position, it is possible, after removing the upper elements of the machine (electric machine and shaft) to completely remove the hydraulic machine by passing all its parts through the mantle and vice versa to reassemble the machine. During operation, in the constructions of FIGS. 1 and 2, where the machine does not have an adjustment distributor, the mantle is lifted either
partially or completely. In this case, the electric machine can be asynchronous, consisting of an alternator or a motor,
Electrical energy going to or from the network. It is the simplest form of adjustment, the mantle operating by all or nothing, being either closed or completely free.
In the constructions of figs. 1 and 2, other operations are possible, for example by opening the coat only partially. The machine can then be synchronous and its speed adjusted for synchronization on the three-phase network. Similarly, in the event of insufficient flow from the river, the mantle could be partially lifted to adapt the flow of the machine to that of the river.
The construction of the machine according to fig. 3 corresponds to a
installation where the machine includes a well adjustable distributor
known which is completely placed inside the mantle
when it is lowered.
