Abstract

The process consists in permanently deforming at least a proportion of the synthetic fibres of a mesh fabric by passing it between two rotating rolls (14, 16), at least one (14) of which is heated to a temperature of between 165 DEG C and 185 DEG C. The rolls are applied against the fabric with a force of 5,000 to 16,000 kp and preferably rotate at slightly different peripheral speeds. The fabric is cooled (18) immediately after it passes between the rolls. A subsequent reheating for the purpose of relaxation advantageously supplements the process, the aim of which is in particular to stabilise the dimensions of a knit and to make it denser and to improve its surface appearance. <IMAGE>
