Description
The present invention relates to a process for the treatment of a light waste fraction predominantly containing paper, preferably a light fraction separated from household waste, which light fraction contains more tough material and particle contaminants besides paper, by dividing the fraction in a tearing machine and separating and collecting the divided material.
In the industrialized part of the world, wood is currently being extracted from the forests to such an extent that a growing shortage of raw materials can be expected in the longer term. This results in the demand for additional use of other raw material sources.
One possibility in this regard is the increased use of return paper as a source of raw materials. However, the collection methods currently used are inadequate and methods are therefore currently being developed in order to be able to machine paper waste from household waste. Household waste is treated in several stages for this purpose. First of all, the heavy components have to be separated in the household waste, which is done in known type mills, drums and air classifiers through which the material is passed. After this primary treatment, a light fraction remains, which essentially consists of paper and various impurities of the type textiles, plastics, sand, dust and the like. contains, and which can cause blockages in screening plants or unevenness in the finished paper product or break in the paper web in paper mills. It is therefore important to remove these contaminants in order to obtain a product suitable for the paper mills. The methods previously used have not been able to solve the aforementioned problems with impurities among the recovered paper fragments.
The paper contained in light fraction also consists of several different types of paper, which essentially consist of two types of paper fibers, some of which come from so-called wood pulp and some from wood pulp, the proportions of which can vary. Wood pulp and wood pulp have different properties that make them suitable for use in different areas. Wood sanding e.g. results in low tensile strength and high bending stiffness, while the relationship is reversed for wood pulp. Conventional processes for the mechanical recovery of paper have thus resulted in a product consisting of a mixture of paper fragments of wood pulp and wood pulp. This mix of different types of paper was not particularly attractive to the paper mills, and the value of the recovered paper was consequently limited.
The object of the present invention is to solve the problems mentioned and to provide a method for treating a light waste fraction, preferably a light fraction separated from household waste, so that the essential content of the light fraction, i.e. Paper is obtained in such a pure form that it can be used in the paper mill with a minimum of additional equipment. A further object of the invention is the instruction of a method by which the recovered paper is obtained as end product in fractions consisting essentially of wood pulp or wood pulp, whereby their value and applicability as raw material in paper production are optimal. This is achieved by a method as defined in the characterizing parts of the appended claims 1-3.
The invention further relates to a system for carrying out the method according to the appended claims 4 and 5.
The return paper is obtained in the form of flakes of uniform size and of high purity by the invention. The invention is based on the insight that tougher material, such as plastic films, is disassembled to a lesser extent than paper when it is passed through a tearing machine, and thus oversizes can be obtained after the tearing machine, which enables its separation in the subsequent sieve. A further insight on which the invention is based is that a certain division of the paper flakes into wood pulp or wood pulp is possible, because flakes with a lower gram weight consist largely of wood pulp, and flakes with a higher gram weight essentially consist of wood pulp. Since it is of interest for various reasons to divide the return paper into wood pulp or wood pulp, it is understandable that the invention results in end products with separated fiber types of uniform and high quality.
The invention is explained below with reference to the accompanying drawing, using the exemplary embodiment.
In the drawing, which schematically shows a waste treatment plant, 1 is a tearing machine to which a light fraction is fed. The light fraction has been separated from household waste by a known technique and consists essentially of paper, plastic and contaminant particles. The treatment in the tearing machine exposes and removes particle contaminants from the material, the size of which is reduced at the same time

Due to the properties of the tearing machine, tough material such as plastic film is only subjected to a small degree of treatment and is therefore produced in the form of oversizes after the tearing machine. The material treated in the tearing machine is conveyed to a sieve 2 arranged downstream of the tearing machine and now consists of several fractions, essentially fine particles, paper flakes and oversizes of the tougher material. By screening the material after the tearing machine through different hole sizes, different fractions can be separated if desired. In this way, an intermediate fraction can be obtained, from which impurities from fine particles or from oversized material consisting essentially of plastic have been screened off. The paper-made material cleaned in this way is passed through a drying equipment 3 of known type. The heated and dried material contains a mixture of fibers made from wood pulp or wood pulp. By passing this mixture through an air classifier 4, the material is separated, since paper with a higher gram weight is obtained as a heavy fraction, 20 while paper with a lower gram weight is light
Fraction forms, which is collected in a cyclone downstream of the air classifier. In the separation process, adhering particles are also removed from the paper in particulate form. After the air classifier, the material is passed through sieve equipment 6 or 7 with fine holes, in which the loosened impurities are separated in particle form. The end product thus results in a light fraction, which essentially consists of paper made from wood pulp fibers, and a heavy fraction, which essentially consists of paper made from wood pulp fibers.
In the system described above, the separation takes place in an air classifier. Several such air classifiers can of course be arranged in series if a further increase in the degree of purity of the one fiber fraction is justified.
The invention has been described in connection with the treatment of a light fraction from household waste. According to the invention, however, other waste, e.g. Office and industrial waste.
