The present invention relates to an assembly comprising a reservoir for a product to be injected and a syringe having at least one syringe body, a plunger, a needle holder and a needle.
Among the methods of introducing a drug into the human and animal body are intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, operated using a syringe fitted with a capillary needle.
There are currently inexpensive disposable syringes made of plastic which advantageously replace glass syringes, to be sterilized after each use.
These syringes are filled by aspirating with the needle a medicine, a vaccine, a serum, etc., either from an ampoule or, through a rubber membrane, from a bottle containing several doses of product to inject.
Numerous attempts have been made to store the products to be injected in plastic tanks, but without success, since these plastic materials allow the migration of microorganisms through their walls, which contaminates the sterile product.
In addition, most plastics absorb liquid or are permeable to gas, which can either lead to the release of components of said plastics mixing with the product to be injected, or cause oxidation of the product by oxygen in the ambient air. .
The glass being perfectly waterproof and neutral, it remains the best material for the storage of products to be injected, the ampoules of the trade being perfectly known and tested.
However, often the transfer of the product to be injected from the ampoule into the syringe must be done under difficult conditions, in the presence of stale air, for example on a battlefield, at the scene of an accident, in dark, which could lead to contamination of the product, needle and syringe.
In addition, there are products to inject with two components which must be stored separately and will not be mixed until the injection. Both storage and mixing and the introduction of the mixed product into the syringe are problematic. Among these two-component products, there are lyophilized powders, therefore extremely hydrophilic, which must be dissolved in a solution at the time of use. Storing a dose of these powders together with a dose of the solution requires precautions to avoid moistening the lyophylized powder with the solution. However, it is desirable to find the two components combined in a single device, a device which in addition facilitates their mixing and allows without further manipulation to proceed with the injection.
The object of the present invention is an assembly comprising at least one reservoir for products to be injected and a syringe fulfilling all the above conditions and meeting all the requirements from the point of view of sterility of the products contained therein and allowing easy, sterile and rapid handling, in particularly with regard to transferring the product to be injected or a solution from the reservoir into the syringe.
According to the present invention, this object is achieved by an assembly, characterized in that the needle is rigidly fixed to the syringe body at the level of the needle holder which has on its periphery a fixing element and that the reservoir presents at a first end a fixing element making it possible to connect it in a leaktight manner to the needle holder and at its end opposite to said first end an opening which is provided with an external annular rib, that said opening is closed by an elastomer plug, that said stopper is covered on the outside with an aluminum capsule which is bordered around said annular rib and that the length of the needle and of the reservoir as well as the thickness of said stopper are chosen so that the inlet the needle channel is inserted into the cap when the assembly is assembled,
and that packaging means protect the assembly from any contamination.
In addition, it is advantageous if the reservoir and the syringe are made of plastic material which can be sterilized at least 140 "C.
It is also advantageous if the reservoir and the syringe are made of polymethylpentene.
Another advantageous embodiment provides that the reservoir is made of glass and the syringe of sterilizable plastic.
In addition, it is advantageous if the reservoir and the syringe body are made of glass.
It is also advantageous if the glass used for said reservoir and said syringe body is not transparent to ultraviolet rays.
Another advantageous embodiment provides that the reservoir contains one component and the syringe body another component of a two-component product to be injected.
In addition, it is advantageous if the syringe body is provided at its open end with an external annular rib on which
is bordered by an aluminum capsule and means are provided for easily removing said capsule.
It is also advantageous if a seal is provided between the reservoir and the syringe body.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of nonlimiting example, two embodiments of the subject of the invention and shows, in FIG. 1 a sectional view of a first assembly according to the invention for the storage of a single product to be injected, and in FIG. 2 a sectional view of a second assembly according to the invention for the storage of a product to be injected with two components.
Fig. 1 shows a product for injection 1 placed in a reservoir 2, one end of which 3 is provided with a fixing element 4 in the form of a thread. The end 5 of the reservoir 2 is open and ends in an annular rib 6. The reservoir 2 is preferably made of glass but could be, for certain veterinary products or depending on the packaging method of the assembly for example in a packaging 16 in the form of an aluminum capsule containing an inert gas or a vacuum, made of sterilizable plastic, for example polymethylpentene. The end 5 of the reservoir 2 is closed by an elastomer plug 7, held in place by an aluminum capsule 8 which is bordered around a rib 6 which makes the reservoir 2 watertight at this level.
The syringe body 9 ends on one side with a needle holder 10 which is provided with a fixing element 11, also in the form of a thread, which adapts to the thread 4 of the reservoir 2 In the needle holder 10 is fixed permanently and in a sealed manner a capillary needle 12, the tip 12a of which is housed, in the assembled assembly, inside the plug 7 so that the inlet of the channel 12b is closed. In the syringe body is a plunger 13 provided with a plug 14 of elastic material, depending on the nature of the product I made of nitrile, viton, silicone or any other synthetic elastomer. The seal between the reservoir 2 and the syringe 9 can be obtained by means of a seal 15.
Because the tip 12a and the inlet of the channel 12b are inside the plug 7, the product 1 cannot leave the reservoir 2 via the needle 12, nor along fastening elements 4 and 11, possibly made watertight thanks to the seal 15; the aluminum capsule 8 ensuring the tightness of the reservoir 2 at the level of the cap 7. The reservoir 2 being made of glass, the product 1 is therefore perfectly protected from contamination.
To use the assembly of the invention, it suffices to separate or respectively unscrew the syringe body 9 from the reservoir 2 until the needle 12 is released from the stopper 7. The piston 13 is then aspirated using the product I in the syringe and we then unscrew it completely to remove it from the reservoir 2.
Then the syringe is ready for injection.
Fig. 2 moritre another execution of the invention intended for the storage of a product with two components. In the absence of a package 16 for example of a welded aluminum tube filled with an inert gas or a vacuum, the reservoir 2 as well as the body of the syringe 9 will preferably be made of glass, I sealing of the syringe body 9 being obtained by means of a capsule 19 preferably made of aluminum, bordered around the annular rib 9a of the syringe body 9. The reservoir 2 contains one of the components 17 and the syringe body 9 The other component 18 of the product to be injected.
In the case shown, the product 17 being a solution and the product 18 a powder, for example an antibiotic. It is obvious that the opposite would be possible: the powder being in the reservoir 2 and the solution in the syringe, as well as the two components can be liquid. The capsule 19 can carry a sealed notch 20 provided with a tab 21 which is intended to tear the capsule 19 at the notch 20 in order to release the piston 13 for the use of the object of the invention as already described.
To fill the assembly shown in fig. 2, we can proceed as follows: - first fill the syringe body 9, introduce the udder
tone 13 and expel the air through channel 12b of needle 12, border
the capsule 19 around the rib 9a; - then fill, needle 12 upwards, tank 2, iron
sea with the cap 7 and border the capsule 8 around the ner
vure 6; - sterilize in an autoclave.
If the product to be injected does not withstand high sterilization temperatures, the various components of the assembly could also be sterilized before filling with gas, then fill them and complete the assembly.
For filling an assembly according to fig. 1, we can also proceed as described above.
It is obvious that the assembly according to the invention has certain advantages over the syringes and product reservoirs used to date. The advantages are particularly interesting in all single-use syringe applications and for the application of two-component products. The assembly according to the invention is however also advantageously usable in all situations presenting an increased risk of contamination, but can also be useful in any other case where the use of a syringe proves necessary.
