7. spray can valve according to claim 1, characterized in that the valve body (7) made of plastic, for. B. Poly ethylene.
The invention relates to a spray can valve which is arranged in the lid of a can and with which the contents of the can, which are under the action of a propellant gas, are dispensed in any dosed quantities, the valve having a valve stem held in a flexible, elastic valve body.
Spray can valves are known in many designs.
They are usually designed on the principle of needle valves.
These can be opened by axial pressure from the outside against the force of a compression spring arranged in the valve cap. As soon as the pressure from the outside stops, the valve closes automatically. Spray can valves in the design as tilting valves are also known. In these, a lateral force is exerted on the valve stem, under the effect of which the valve seat on the underside of an elastic and flexible valve body is released, thus allowing the contents of the can to escape (US Pat. No. 3,132,774).
However, a disadvantage of the toggle valves is that a reliable return of the valve once opened is not guaranteed in all applications; because the restoring force resulting from the deformation of the elastic and flexible valve body is relatively low. Another disadvantage is that a dip tube cannot be used with tilt valves. Due to these shortcomings or restrictions in use, relatively complex solutions have to be provided, for example, for viscous can contents. In particular, the known spring-loaded spray valves for the metering of moisture-curing materials, for. B. of polyurethane material, are not used, since the moisture-hardening material hardens in the spring gears and thereby affects the function of the spring or would even be completely canceled.
In such cases, there is no other option than to do without the use of a compression spring, but this again creates uncertainty regarding a sufficient restoring force. In particular, spray valves without a return spring are not permitted at higher propellant pressures in accordance with various national regulations.
The invention is therefore based on the object of designing a spray can valve of the type described at the outset in such a way that it can be used reliably even with moisture-curing materials and / or high propellant pressures.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the valve stem is pressed in the direction of the closed position of the valve by a restoring element which is arranged separately from the can space and the valve channel.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in one embodiment and described below.
The drawing shows a section through a spray can valve, which is particularly suitable for metering moisture-curing materials.
The valve 1 shown in the figure is arranged in a preferably metallic cover 2. The lid 2 serves to end a can, not shown, provided with an opening, the curved edge of the lid 2 sealingly resting on a correspondingly shaped edge of the can. The lid 2 has a flat bottom 3 with an opening 4.
The valve 1 is essentially formed from two molded bodies, a valve body 7 on the one hand and a valve stem 8 on the other.
The valve body 7 is frustoconical and has a central bore 11 which merges into a recess 10 at the can end. The valve body 7 has on its outer edge axially directed ring flanges 12, 13, of which an intermediate groove 14 is formed. In the opposite direction to the recess 10, the valve body 7 has a pipe socket 15 which extends through the opening 4 of the base 3.
The valve body is made of an elastic and flexible material, for example of polyethylene. It thus has a flexibility which is less than that of an elastomer, but is still sufficient that a certain deformation of the valve body 7 is possible.
A valve stem 8 is guided in the bore 11 and has a central valve stem channel 9. which is provided with openings 21 which open into the recess 10 of the valve body 7. The valve stem 8 is closed on the side of the openings 21 by a foot flange 20. The flange surface 17 of the foot flange 20 directed against the valve body 7 forms the sealing surface of the valve 1. The flange surface 17 lies against an annular surface 18 of the valve body 7. The flange surface 17 and the annular surface 18 form the valve closure, which forms a perfect seal of the can.
The valve stem 8 is under the action of a restoring element which is designed as a compression spring 24. It is essential that the restoring element, which reinforces the sealing effect on the surfaces 17, 18, is arranged separately from both the can space and the valve stem channel 9. In the embodiment shown in the figure, the compression spring 24 surrounds the valve stem 8 and the pipe socket 15 of the valve body 7 and is supported on the one hand on the bottom 3 of the cover 2 and on the other hand on a collar 23 of the valve stem 8.
The collar 23 merges into a shoulder 16 which lies over the end of the pipe socket 15 of the valve body 7. The valve stem 8 can be installed in the valve body 7 in such a way that the collar 23 is only formed after the valve stem 8 has been inserted into the valve body 7. The collar 23 can also be attached as a separate part after assembly of the valve body 7 with the valve stem 8. The spring 24 can easily with one
collar 23 fixedly connected to the valve stem 8 can be mounted or screwed on.
It is also essential that an immersion tube 26 can be fastened in a pressure-tight manner in the groove 14. There is also another type of attachment for the dip tube 26. z. B. by welding, conceivable. As can be seen from the figure, the inner diameter 27 of the dip tube 26 can be kept relatively large, expediently larger than 1.5 times the base flange 20 of the valve stem 8. In the figure, the dip tube 26 also has a diameter corresponding to the can opening. The can diameter is approximately defined by the bottom 3 of the lid 2.
To actuate the valve, the valve stem 8, which consists of a relatively rigid plastic, is pressed laterally, as a result of which part of the two surfaces 17 18 opens and allows the can material to flow through. However, it is also possible to press the valve stem 8 axially against the force of the spring 24, as a result of which the two surfaces 17, 18 are completely separated from one another. If the valve i is pressed to open in the axial direction, an arc can be arranged at the mouth of the valve stem channel 9 so that the material is deflected laterally while the axial pressure is being exerted.
The valve 1 described is characterized by great simplicity. Because the restoring element lies outside the material-carrying cross sections, its area of application is considerably larger than that of other spray valves.
