Abstract

To obtain 2-(2-thienyl)ethylamine, a derivative of the formula II below, in which R1 and R2 represent hydrogen or an optionally substituted phenyl or lower alkyl radical and R3 is an optionally substituted alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group, is reacted with ammonia. In a variation, it is possible to react the derivative of formula II with phthalimide and then to subject the compound thus obtained to a transamination reaction with an amine or with hydrazine hydrate. 2-(2-Thienyl)ethylamine and its derivatives are known compounds used as intermediates in the synthesis of a great number of derivatives used both in the chemical industry and in the pharmaceutical industry. <IMAGE>
