Abstract
The invention comprises anhydrides of the formula <FORM:0928303/IV(a)/1> wherein R1 and R2 are hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon radicals and R3 is a hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon radical or a heterocyclic radical attached to the C:O group through a carbon atom of said radical. R1 and R2 are preferably alkyl radicals, e.g. methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl and R3 is preferably an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical which radicals may be substituted, or a heterocyclic radical, e.g. pyridyl. They may be obtained by (1) reacting an acid of the formula (R1O)(R2O)P(S)SCH2COOH or a salt of such acid with an acid chloride R3COCl, the reaction being carried out in the presence or absence of a tertiary organic base when the free acid is used, or (2) by reacting the free acid of the above formula with ketene, this method being applicable to products in which R3 is methyl. The anhydrides may be reacted with ammonia or an amine of the formula HNR4R5 to give amido compounds of the formula: <FORM:0928303/IV(a)/2> wherein R1 and R2 are as defined above and R4 and R5 are hydrocarbon or substituted hydrocarbon radicals or R3 and R4 together with the N atom form a heterocyclic ring, e.g. morpholine. Specified amino compounds NHR3R4 are ammonia, methylamine, ethylamine, p-chloroaniline and morpholine. The amido compounds have insecticidal properties.
