% erwarten.

The present invention relates to a wood biocide and to its use for the production of wood preservatives which are suitable for protecting wood and wood-based materials against destruction by fungi and insects.
It is known that organic tin compounds, such as tributyl tin oxide or triphenyl tin acetate, have fungicidal properties. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, hexachlorocyclohexane or endosulfan, have good insecticidal activity, but no or only very unsatisfactory fungicidal activity.
It has now been found that the fungicidal effectiveness of the organic tin compounds can be increased considerably by using them together with endosulfan.
The invention thus relates to a wood biocide consisting of a mixture in a weight ratio of 1: 5 to 1:20, preferably 1: 1 to 4: 2 of a) endosulfan [a, ss, 1,2,3,4,7, 7-hexachlorobicyclo- (2,2,1) -hepten- (2) -bisoxomethylene- (5,6) -sulfite] and b) tributyltin oxide, tributyltin fluoride, triphenyltin acetate or a mixture thereof.
The effect of the mixture according to the invention on wood-discoloring or wood-destroying fungi is significantly greater than that of the organic tin compound alone, although the mixture component endosulfan alone has no effect on the growth of the fungi. This increase in the effectiveness of the organic tin compounds is due to a synergism of the two active ingredients.
The fungicidal properties of active ingredients are determined by the nutrient medium test. Graduated amounts of active ingredient are incorporated into the nutrient medium. The culture media are infected with the test fungi (Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes) and incubated. The additives that completely inhibit the growth of the test mushrooms are the minimum inhibitor concentrations (MIC values).
The following table contains these values, in% by weight of the total amount, where TL stands for parts by weight:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Tributyltin Oxide (TBTO) 0.005 0.002 0.002 0.002 0.001 0.005 0.001 0.005 Triphenyltin Acetate (TPTA) 0.03 0.01 0.03 0.1 0.01> 1 0.1 0.1 Endosulfan (ES )> 1> 1> 1> 1> 1> 1> 1> 1 mixture 1 part TBTO + 1 part ES 0.001 0.0005 0.001 0.0005 0.0005 0.001 0.0005 0.001 mixture 1 part TPTA + 1 part ES 0.005 0.005 0.001 0.0005 0.005 0.1 0.05 0.05 Mixture 1 part TBTO + 4 parts ES 0.001 0.001 0.001 0.001 0.001 0.005 0.002 0.002 Mixture 1 part TPTA + 4 parts ES 0.002 0.005 0.005 0.01 0.01 0, 1 0.05 0.05 test mushrooms:
:
1. Alternance consortiale
2. Auriobasidium pullulans
3. Aspergillus niger
4. Penicillium funiculosum
5. Chaetomium globosum (soft rot)
6. Coniophora puteana (cellar sponge)
7. Lenzites abietina (pine leaf)
8. Poria monticola (white pore sponge)
The mixture according to the invention shows far better MIC values than the individual components used. TBTO has z. B. in Alternaria consortiale an MIC value of 0.005%.
The mixture of TBTO with ES in a weight ratio of 1: 1 suggests a mathematical MIC value of 0.01% by weight. However, the actual value is 0.001% by weight, which corresponds to an increase in effectiveness of 1000%.
With a mixing ratio of ES: TBTO of 4: 1, the MIC value should be 0.025% by weight. 0.001% by weight were found.
The synergistic increase in effectiveness also becomes clear when the mixture according to the invention is examined in accordance with DIN 52 176 (block test). During this test, blocks of pine sapwood are soaked with solutions that contain graduated amounts of active ingredient. The blocks are exposed to the attack of the wood-destroying fungi for 3 months. The limits of effectiveness are expressed by two numbers. The higher number represents the lowest concentration in% by weight at which no further attack occurs.
The lower number indicates the concentration at which wood destruction can just be detected:
Coniophora Lentinus Poria puteana lepideus monticola Tributyltin Oxide 0.04-0.1 0.0063-0.016 0.0025-0.0063 Endosulfan ineffective ineffective ineffective mixture 1: 1 0.025-0.04 0.004-0.01 under 0.001 mixture 1: 3 0.04-0.1 0.004-0.01 0.0025-0.0063 Tributyltin Fluoride 0.04-0.1 0.001-0.0025 0.0025-0.0063 Mixture 1: 1 0.025-0.04 under 0.001 0.001-0.0025
The increase in effectiveness was not to be expected, especially since endosulfan obviously does not show any fungicidal effect.
However, it is of great practical importance and opens up the possibility of reducing the application concentrations of the organotin compounds. This is essential both because of the toxicity of this group of active ingredients and from an economic point of view. A longer period of protection, which is given with the use of the agent according to the invention, is also of essential practical importance.
The agent according to the invention can be used in a known manner by z. B. Paints for wood are mixed with it. The simplest way is to dissolve the active ingredient combination in gasoline to a concentration of 0.1-5% by weight and use it to paint, spray or immerse wooden parts. Paints with an active ingredient content according to the invention can also be mixed with film-forming materials, synthetic or natural resins, oils or waxes, so that the primers generally customary in practice are obtained. Aqueous application forms are also possible, in which case suitable auxiliary solvents or emulsifiers must ensure good active ingredient distribution. The active ingredient concentration can vary in the range from 0.1-5% by weight and is selected according to the requirements.
The following parts and percentages are by weight.
example 1
20 parts of endosulfan and 10 parts of tributyltin oxide are dissolved in 70 parts of white spirit. This active ingredient concentrate is used to make finished wood preservatives fungicidal. The additional amounts are chosen so that the active ingredient content is between 0.1 and 5%.
Example 2

This mixture is used to paint construction wood. Due to the high boiling point of the solvent good penetration and long-lasting effectiveness are achieved.
Example 3
To protect fresh lumber, a mixture of 75 parts of butyl glycol, 24 parts of water, 0.5 part of tributyltin oxide and 0.5 part of endosulfan is prepared. With this mixture, freshly felled and peeled trees are protected against primary fungus attack. At the same time, the use of Endosulfan provides protection against insect infestation.
