Abstract

The coupling plate for the articulated vehicle is made from cast metal, with two pockets (5, 6) to straddle the coupling slot. The pockets locate the bearing blocks as well as the locking mechanism. For strength and lightness the two pockets are joined by a curved groove (10) moulded into the plate. This strengthens the plate against the tensile and compression forces from the tow, without increasing the mass of the plate, or the complexity. The cross section of the groove is U, or V-shaped open to the top side of the plate.
