The subject of the invention is a particular embodiment of the method according to main patent no. 568 266; it consists in pre-cleaning the pipe nitroanthraquinone in a suitable solvent and then treating it with the base in the same solvent.
The subject of the invention is therefore a process for cleaning l-nitroanthraquinone contaminated by dinitroanthraquinone, which is characterized in that the l-nitroanthraquinone contaminated by dinitroanthraquinone is pre-cleaned in a solvent and then the l-nitroanthraquinone still containing dinitroanthraquinone is pre-cleaned in the same solvent Treated temperature with a base or with a base hydrolyzable salt in the presence of a solvent and the l-nitroanthraquinone separated from the products of different solubility.
It is expedient to use a solvent in which the solubility of l-nitroanthraquinone is very different from the solubility of the dinitroanthraquinones. The crude nitroanthraquinone is treated with so much solvent and at such temperatures until all of the l-nitroanthraquinone is just dissolved; the undissolved (or reprecipitated or crystallized out) parts are separated from the solution by mechanical means and the solution is further treated directly with the base. This procedure is particularly suitable for working up nitroanthraquinone mixtures which have a high content of dinitroanthraquinones, especially 1,5- and 1,8-dinitroanthraquinone.
In this way, a practically pure α, α'-dinitroanthraquinone mixture can also be obtained, since the α, α'-dinitroanthraquinones are obtained to a large extent in the case of over-nitration and represent the less soluble part of the nitroanthraquinone mixture.
The 1-nitroanthraquinone contaminated by dinitroanthraquinone to be used as the starting product can have been produced from anthraquinone by any nitration process, e.g. B. by nitrating anthraquinone in the presence of sulfuric acid or phosphoric acid, or by nitrating anthraquinone with concentrated nitric acid alone; The latter nitration process is carried out, for example, at temperatures from 40 ° C. to the boiling point of the reaction medium and in the presence of a large excess of at least 90% nitric acid. The nitration product can be used as it is after separation and washing e.g. B. be used as a moist or also as a dry filter cake or optionally also after an intermediate cleaning for the inventive method.
Suitable bases to be used according to the invention are, for example, inorganic bases, in particular alkali metal hydroxides, e.g. B. lithium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide, alkaline earth metal hydroxides and / or oxides, e.g. B. magnesium, calcium, strontium or barium hydroxide and / or oxide. Basic hydrolyzable salts are those which are in hydrolysis equilibrium in H20 according to the following equation: BA + H2O> HA + B + OH (b) (B is a cation and A is an anion) where the acid HA is also partly according to the equation HA + H20 ci H30 + A (a) is ionized, but ionization (b) predominates over ionization (a).
The basic hydrolyzable salts used for the process according to the invention are preferably those in which the pKa value of equation (a) is at least 3.
The following acids may be mentioned as HA:
Carbonic acid, monohydrogen phosphates, nitric acid, boric acid, carboxylic acid (e.g. formic acid, acetic acid, benzoic acid), oxycarboxylic acids (e.g. ascorbic acid, citric acid, salicylic acid), acidic hydroxyaryl compounds (e.g. phenol, p-nitrophenol, uric acid) ) and weaker sulfonic acids (e.g. aminophenyl sulfonic acids).
As basic hydrolyzable salts are z. B. the alkali metal salts, especially the lithium, sodium and potassium salts of the above acids and the basic salts of alkaline earth metals (z. B. of magnesium, calcium, strontium or barium).
For the process according to the invention, preference is given to using alkali metal hydroxides, if appropriate together with the corresponding carbonates.
Suitable solvents are both water-miscible solvents and water-little or immiscible solvents in which nitroanthraquinone is preferably readily soluble and which are resistant to alkali and nitroanthraquinone under the reaction conditions, provided they are not used as reactants.
Xylenes, 1,2-dichloroethane, anisole or phenethole are advantageously used for the process according to the invention, of which anisole is particularly preferred.
The reaction temperature is advantageously chosen according to the type and amount of the solvent and the concentration and amount of the bases, preferably so that the 1-nitroanthraquinone is completely dissolved in the solvent.
An elevated temperature is to be understood here as any temperature which is higher than room temperature and which is compatible with the reaction. It is advantageous to proceed at temperatures between 40 ° C. and the boiling point of the reaction mixture, although it is also possible to proceed under pressure; the temperature of 200 ° C. is preferably not exceeded. The optimal reaction temperature is usually between 50 and 1500c.
The base to be used can be used either in a stoichiometric amount or in a large excess, the stoichiometric amount being the amount which is sufficient to convert the anthraquinone derivatives present in the crude nitroanthraquinone in addition to 1-nitroanthraquinone.
In the following examples, unless stated otherwise, the parts are parts by weight and the percentages are percentages by weight.
The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius and the parts by weight relate to parts by volume as g to cm3. The nitroanthraquinone mixtures used as starting materials contain an average of 0.5-5% nitrohydroxyanthraquinones.
example 1
70 parts of a nitroanthraquinone mixture containing approx. 92% 1-nitroanthraquinone and approx. 46% dinitroanthraquinone are mixed as an aqueous paste with 560 parts of anisole to form a homogeneous suspension. The suspension is heated to 115 ° C. and the water that evaporates is separated off using a separator, the solid particles going into solution. 12 parts of sodium hydroxide are then added as a powder to the solution at 115 ° C. with stirring, and the mixture is cooled for 2 Hours continued at this temperature, after which the reaction mixture is filtered. 1-nitroanthraquinone is precipitated by evaporation of the filtrate, which is filtered off from the mother liquor, washed and dried.
The 1-nitroanthraquinone obtained in this way has a purity of about 98% and contains about 0.3% dinitroanthraquinone. The yield is 93-95% of theory. Th.
Example 2 (pre-purification of crude nitroanthraquinone) 100 parts of crude nitroanthraquinone, containing:
60% 1-nitroanthraquinone,
6% 1,5-dinitroanthraquinone, 13% 1,8-dinitroanthraquinone and 20% ss, ss'-dinitroanthraquinone are stirred in 1000 parts of anisole, heated to 115 ° C. and stirred for a further hour at this temperature. Then, without cooling, filtered at 115 "C. The filter residue consists of 7 parts of a dinitroanthraquinone mixture; the filtrate is, as described in Example 1, processed further to isolate l-nitroanthraquinone.
