In known ventilation installations for buildings, automatic shutters or fire dampers are usually available in the walls or in the floors. This arrangement has the drawback of requiring the formation of openings in the walls or in the floors to allow access to these shutters or valves after their triggering.
The invention aims to avoid this drawback and relates to a safety device for the ventilation installation of a building.
comprising an air suction mouth formed by a seat and a valve elastically biased in the closed position.
The device according to the invention is characterized in that a retaining member melting at a temperature below 100 ° C. retains the valve in the open position, this valve automatically coming to the closed position when this member melts.
The single figure of the drawing represents, by way of example, an axial section through an embodiment of the device forming the subject of the present invention.
The safety device shown is intended for a ventilation installation of a building and comprises an air suction port fixed in a sleeve A and formed by a seat I and a valve 2 biased by a spring 3 in the position of. closure as shown in the drawing. The valve 2 is conical and carries a central rod 4 screwed into a tube 5 welded inside the domed face 2 'of the sheet metal valve, a bottom 6 being fixed to the conical part of the valve 2.
The free end of the rod 4 is provided with a cup 7 forming a stop for one end of the coil spring 3, the other end of this spring resting against a cross member 8 integral with the seat I.
This cross member 8 carries a guide sleeve 9 through which the rod 4 passes and which is surrounded on the outside by the spring 3. The rod 4 is pierced with a hole 10 intended to receive a pin (not shown) made of a material. fuse at less than 100 ° C., this pin resting on the cross member 8 when the valve 2 is in the open position shown in phantom.
The valve 2 is a hollow sheet metal body filled with a fire-retardant material such as, for example, asbestos. Seat I is also hollow and filled with asbestos.
The crossmember 8 has bayonet hooking means it intended to cooperate with corresponding ramps 12 fixed in the air suction sleeve A sealed in a wall of a building room.
Each room can include such an air suction sleeve, access to which presents no difficulty.
The operation of the device described is as follows.
The valve 2 is assumed to be in the open position (dashed line), that is to say that the air from the room in which it is installed is sucked into the ventilation duct leading to the sleeve A. If a fire occurs in the vicinity of this valve, the air heated to a temperature below 100 "C enters the sleeve A and melts the pin retaining the valve 2 in the open position against the force of the spring 3. The rod 4 not being then no longer retained by the pin is urged by the spring 3 in its closed position of the valve 2 as shown in solid lines and the air can no longer enter the ventilation duct, which makes it possible to avoid a propagation of the fire on the upper floors.
The advantage of the safety device described lies in its simplicity of construction on the one hand and in the fact that the fire is stopped at the very place where it occurs. It is therefore no longer necessary to open channels or ducts for ventilation installations, as was common until now when the flames were propagated in these ducts communicating with the other premises.
As has been said, each room can include an air vent, which allows direct access to the safety devices which are apparent.
