Abstract
The equipment concentrates the rays of the sun in order to heat the fluid, and consists of a sheet of glass with a reflective coating. This is mounted on a support so as to be bent in a parabola pattern, thus forming a cylindrical mirror with a parabolic axis. the glass plate (3) can be fixed to the support (3) by means of an intermediate flexible layer (2), typically of wood. The glass and coating are thin enough, the latter typically silver, to allow bending into the parabolic shape without breakage, and unlike a metal reflector there is no risk of scratching and spoling the surface when washing.
Description

The present invention relates to a device for concentrating the solar rays, for the purpose of heating a fluid.
The single figure of the appended drawing shows, by way of example, a longitudinal section of an embodiment of the mirror according to the invention.
The device shown comprises a rigid base made of wood, molded plastic material or metal, the upper face of which has the shape of a cylinder with an approximately parabolic director.
On this face rests an intermediate support (2) of crossed wood or other flexible material, the upper face of which has the shape of a cylinder with a parabolic directrix more or less open depending on whether it is desired to have the focal line at a distance more or smaller. On this face rests a glass plate carrying a reflective coating, for example silver, thin enough to support the parabolic shape by simple bending without there being any breakage.
An experimental element already built consists of four mirror glass elements I m wide and 1.60 m long, the thickness of which is 1.6 mm.
This type of construction provides a light and rigid device whatever its dimensions and at a very low cost.
Since the mirror is made of glass, if necessary it can be washed frequently without risk of scratches and thereby retains its initial reflecting power, while the metallic mirrors become eroded and oxidized.
CLAIM
Device for concentrating the solar rays for the purpose of heating a fluid, characterized in that it comprises a glass plate carrying a reflective coating and mounted on a support so as to be bent along a parabolic arc profile, constituting thus a cylindrical mirror with parabolic directrix.
SUB-CLAIM
Device according to claim, characterized in that the glass plate is fixed to the support by means of a layer of flexible material.
