The present invention relates to an indexing mechanism for the turntable of a rotary table, comprising a pawl cooperating with a ratchet wheel integral with the turntable and mounted on a pivoting arm around the center of the table, and a pneumatic cylinder for controlling the swivel arm.
In rotary tables of known construction, the pawl can come out of the ratchet wheel during the rotational movement of the table top, causing the plate to deindex.
The pawl is disengaged in particular when the turntable has a large moment of inertia. The pawl is then biased by a radial force generated by the moment of inertia of the rotating parts.
The present invention aims to remedy this drawback and the mechanism which is the subject thereof is characterized in that it comprises a pawl locking lever mounted to pivot around the center of the table, means for angularly moving this lever by the 'intermediate the pivoting arm, and means for moving said lever relative to the table in an angular position corresponding to the disengagement of the pawl.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the mechanism forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial plan view of this mechanism,
fig. 2 is a detailed perspective view,
fig. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1 in another position.
The mechanism shown is used for indexing in a rotary table the turntable (not shown) around the center of the table and resting on the main frame 1. It comprises a pawl 2 cooperating with a ratchet wheel 3 secured to the plate turning.
The pawl 2 is pivoted around an axis 4 fixed on an arm 5 which itself pivots around the center 6 of the table. The pivoting arm 5 is subjected in a known manner to the action of a pneumatic cylinder, not shown.
A housing 7 is provided in the pivoting arm 5 and serves to receive a locking lever 8 pivotally mounted around the center 6 of the table. The housing 7 ends with bearing surfaces 9 and 10 coming into engagement with the locking lever 8 in order to move it angularly as will be described below. A clearance a (measured according to an arc) is provided between the bearing surface 10 and the lever 8 when the latter is applied against the surface 9 (fig. 2 and 3). This clearance a allows forward movement, that is to say in the direction of arrow B in FIG. 2 of approximately 2 mm from the lever 8 when the pawl 2 engages with a rigid stop 11 as shown in FIG. 1.
A roller 12 is mounted in the end of the locking lever 8 and is applied by a spring 13 against a wall 14 of the table. An inclined plane 15 is formed in the wall 14 to drive the roller 12 with the lever 8 as described below.
The locking lever 8 comprises a shoulder 16 cut in a bevel, that is to say along a surface 17 inclined relative to the axis of the lever 8 to allow the retraction of the pawl 2. the bevel 17 ends in a flat 18 intended to prevent a backward movement of the pawl 2.
The operation of the indexing mechanism described is as follows:
In the position shown in FIG. 1, the pawl 2 is free to disengage from the wheel 3 thanks to the advancement of the lever 8, the flat 18 of which is released from the pawl 2. The advancement of the lever 8 in the direction of arrow B (fig. 2) is caused by the roller 12 which is driven by the inclined plane 15. In this movement, the lever 8 leaves the bearing surface 9 of the pivoting arm 5 and the flat 18 of its shoulder 16 is in a position such that it allows pawl 2 to disengage from ratchet wheel 3. Pawl 2 then moves back in the direction of arrow A (fig. 2) corresponding to the cocking movement. Fig. 3 shows the position of the pawl 2 and the lever 8 an instant before the pawl 2 hits the rigid stop 11. The pawl 2 is locked between the plate 18 of the lever 8 and the tooth of the wheel 3.
During the reverse advance movement, that is to say indexing in the direction of arrow B, the flat 18 of the locking lever 8 prevents any backward movement of the pawl 2. As a result of the locking of the pawl 2 , no deindexing can occur as was the case in known mechanisms of this type and the plate cannot exceed its final position.
