Abstract
Al wire for electrical and mechanical purposes is protected against oxidation and corrosion by a plastic casing which is glued on by an adhesive layer consisting of a polybutene or polybutylene composition, pref. bitumen. The plastic casing consists pref of a thermo-adhesive copolymer, and may be applied by extrusion or wound around the wire as a tape.
Description
The invention relates to a metal wire with corrosion protection for electrical, mechanical or other purposes.
Such corrosion-protected metal wires are known. They consist, for example, of copper or iron and are for example galvanized or coated with paint and / or another plastic.
However, such a sheathing is not sufficient for aluminum wires. Such a covering does not adhere sufficiently firmly here. Water or moisture penetrate under the cover. The known oxidation reactions and the resulting material and conductivity damage result. This knowledge prevents the further spread of aluminum wires.
The task was therefore to create a metal wire which, made of aluminum, does not have the disadvantages described.
It has now been found that such a metal wire with corrosion protection can be created if the plastic jacket is glued to an aluminum wire as corrosion protection.
The adhesive layer can consist of polybutene or polyisobutylene, optionally with the addition of resins, waxes, fillers, or bitumen.
Furthermore, the plastic jacket itself can consist of a copolymer that adheres when exposed to heat. The sheathing can consist of a plastic extruded onto the aluminum wire, or a wound plastic tape.
The figure shows in cross section an embodiment of the corrosion-protected wire. It means:
1 the aluminum wire,
2 2 the adhesive layer,
3 the plastic jacket.
The perfect adhesion of the plastic jacket to the metal surface is achieved through the mediating adhesive layer, which means that completely new areas of application are opened up for the aluminum wires.
