A-A.
The present invention relates to a transfer device for the treatment of a cylindrical hollow body, in which the cylindrical hollow body is brought by a chain to at least one work station.
Such cylindrical hollow bodies are, for example, flexible tubes, aerosol cans, rigid cases, etc., on the inner surface of which a varnish or seals are applied and on the end of which a stopper is placed.
Currently known devices generally comprise buckets in each of which the cylindrical hollow bodies are placed. These buckets, which can be carried by a chain or by any support, are rotated to drive the cylindrical hollow bodies they contain in a rotary movement necessary for the treatment provided in each work station.
Such buckets have the drawback of not adapting to different hollow body diameters, since, to each diameter of the latter, a well-determined bucket diameter must correspond. In addition, when the cylindrical hollow body has a closed or narrowed end on which a stopper must fit, this end necessarily rests at the bottom of the cup, since the open end of the cylindrical hollow body must be free of access for the treatment of its inner surface.
Such transfer devices therefore do not allow either a series of successive treatments or operations to be carried out without completely modifying the position of the hollow body.
The object of the present invention is precisely to remedy these drawbacks.
To this end, the device according to the invention is characterized by the fact that the chain is provided with freely pivoting rollers, between two of which the body is deposited, by the fact that, at the work station, removable means rotate the rollers supporting the body in order to put the latter in opposite rotation, and by the fact that, above the driven rollers, rotary means hold the body between the rollers during its rotation.
The appended drawing shows schematically, by way of example, an embodiment of the device which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows in cross section a partial view of the device.
Fig. 2 shows a top view of the device at the level
A-A.
The chain 1 carries idle rollers 2 spaced so that two adjacent rollers can carry a cylindrical body 3 of the smallest diameter envisaged. This chain is driven step by step by means not shown. The cylindrical hollow bodies 3 are brought onto the chain one after the other from a feed table 4 by actuation of a retractable stop 5. Advancing the chain by one step puts in position a body 3 in one of the work stations 6, 7 or 8. The body 3 remains in this position throughout the duration of the longest operation of one of the indicated stations. It is also during this immobilization of chain 1 that the next body 3 is brought to the start of the chain.
In any of the workstations 6, 7 or 8, the body 3 which is immobilized there is set in opposite rotation by the two rollers which support it. To do this, a drive mechanism is mounted under the chain and comprises rollers 9a, 9b, 9c, mounted on arms 10a, lob, 10c, and a drive chain 11 actuated by a motor 12. The arms 10a , lob, tOc are pivoted at their other end on a fixed support 13a, 13b, 13c. An arm 14 attached by pivots to the arms 10a, lob, tOc makes it possible to move the latter together under the action of a jack 15 and to bring the rollers 9a, 9b, 9c alternately into contact with their pairs of rollers 2 corresponding to drive them in rotation or on the contrary in a rest position 16.
In these same workstations, cylinders 17a, 17b, 17c are put in place, under the action of jacks 18 moving the frame 19 in which these cylinders 17a, 17b, 17c pivot freely, in close proximity to or against the bodies 3 in position in these workstations. The cylinders 17a, 17b, 17c are preferably covered with a flexible material so as not to damage the surface of the bodies 3 if they come into contact with them. Such contact is however not necessary because the main function of these cylinders is to prevent the bodies 3, set in rotation by their pairs of rollers driven by the rollers 9a, 9b, 9c, from leaving their position.
Each time the chain I is moved by one step, the cylinders 17 are previously raised from their working position to allow the movement of the bodies 3 towards the outlet of the chain. Simultaneously, the rollers 9 are also placed in the rest position to allow the chain rollers to follow their movement. At the end of the chain, the bodies 3 which have undergone a certain number of treatments are delivered to an output table 20.
The workstations include (fig. 2) at station 6 a spray head or spray 21 of a varnish on the interior surface of the body 3. The head 21 moves along the axis of the body 3 immobilized in the workstation then,
when the coating of the surface with the varnish is ter
mined, is retracted so as not to hinder the progression
chain. While in workstation 6 the head 21
performs a translational movement to cover the entire
inner surface of the body 3, in the workstation 7 the
head 22 sprays at a specific location on the internal surface
upper body 3, on the opening side, a gasket
cherity on this inner surface.
While workstations 6 and 7 treat the body 3
on the side of its main opening, workstation 8 has
function to present to body 3 a plug or cap
chon 23 closure which is mounted on the retracted part
cie and closed of this body. It is expected to get the rush
tion of the body and the cap and their possible screwing to maintain this cap 23 in a fixed position while the
body 3, driven in rotation by the rollers 2, is advanced
towards this stopper by virtue of the movement imparted to it by the inclination of cylinder 17c.
The succession of operations carried out in the
work 6 and 7 is only possible when applying a
cold varnish. Indeed, if a varnish had to be applied to
hot, a drying station for this varnish should be provided
the continuation of the work station 6. On the other hand, it is quite obvious that depending on the nature of the cylindrical hollow bodies treated, a single work station, two or more stations than those mentioned in the present example can be provided.
In particular, to allow a faster production rate, the line could be advanced several steps at a time. In this case, each advance of several steps of the chain would correspond to the deposition of several hollow bodies at the start of this chain and the immobilization, in multiple workstations, of an equivalent number of bodies to be treated.
By way of example, for a triple pitch of the chain, three bodies would be placed at the same time between three pairs of rollers at the start of the chain, three bodies would be treated at the same time in a triple varnishing work station, three bodies would be simultaneously provided with a seal in a triple work station provided for this purpose and, finally, three bodies would be provided at the same time with a plug in a corresponding triple assembly station.
