System for supplying an electrostatic coating device with powder coating material
The invention relates to a system for supplying an electrostatic coating device with powdery coating material, in which system recuperated powder and fresh powder in an automatic filter device are fed to the powder container of the coating device via a sieve machine.
In the case of electrostatic powder coating by means of atomization devices, not all of the atomized powder remains adhering to the object to be coated. For reasons of economy, the excess powder is collected, cleaned in a filter device and atomized again after adding fresh powder. In larger coating systems, powder recovery takes place automatically, with powder-containing air being sucked from the atomization booth through a suction pipe into the filter device and the recuperated powder is removed from the collecting container of the filter device and fed through a lock to the screening machine.
For the addition of fresh powder, it is common to suck fresh powder from a storage vessel into the filter device by means of a hose connected to the suction pipe, a shut-off valve being provided in the suction pipe in the direction of flow in front of the hose connection, so that, depending on the position of the shut-off valve, air containing powder from the cabin or fresh powder is sucked from the storage vessel into the filter device.
Although such systems are simple in structure, they have the disadvantage that the coating process has to be interrupted while fresh powder is being sucked in, because the booth is no longer sufficiently vented because of the shut-off suction pipe. This leads to considerable difficulties in particular when the coating is to take place fully automatically according to a predetermined program. It has been shown that ignition and deflagration of powder occur sooner and therefore more frequently in the filter device than at other points in the coating system with powder recovery, since the powder concentration critical for deflagration is easily reached in the filter device. If the entire supply of powder present in the filter device ignites when deflagrating, this can easily lead to the destruction of the device.
The known powder recovery systems are therefore unsafe to operate. If the coating material is a relatively strongly hygroscopic powder, a longer residence time of powder in the filter device has a detrimental effect, since there it is particularly exposed to the action of atmospheric air and can absorb a lot of moisture.
The invention is based on the object of creating a powder supply system for an electrostatic coating device, which makes it possible to maintain a constant flow of used powder to the filter device, regardless of the addition of fresh powder in a suction pipe, in order to maintain a constant negative pressure in a cabin connected to the suction pipe guarantee and thus enable coating without interruption and which can also be operated without difficulty and automatically in such a way that no appreciable amounts of recuperated powder accumulate in the filter device and a sufficient supply of the powder container of the coating device is ensured regardless of its capacity .
The object is achieved according to the invention in that a collecting container of the automatic filter device and a fresh powder conveying line intended for connection to a fresh powder storage vessel are connected via a pipe branching to the supply line of a separator assigned to the screening machine and operated by a pneumatic conveying device, and the pipe branching shut off means has to optionally shut off one or the other inlet.
The powder that accumulates in the cabin can be sucked out of the cabin as usual by a fan via the filter device and the suction pipe, but independently of the addition of fresh powder, which is carried out by means of a separate pneumatic conveying device, which means that with an essentially constant output of the fan in a sufficiently constant negative pressure is maintained in the cabin.
In order to keep the supply of recuperated powder exposed to the atmospheric air in the filter device to a level harmless if deflagration occurs, according to the inventive method for operating the system by actuating the shut-off means at the pipe branching, the intake of recuperated powder and the intake of Fresh powder released and the fresh powder inlet blocked when a certain amount of recuperated powder has accumulated in the collecting container.
The manifold can have automatically operated shut-off means, and the actuation of the shut-off means can be controlled by a control device. The control device can preferably be a time switch device, by means of which the shut-off means of the pipe branching are set according to a time program to the intake of recuperated powder and the intake of fresh powder. In order to ensure that the powder supply in the collecting container of the filter device does not rise above the certain level, a probe for determining an upper filling level can be arranged on the collecting container, which sends a signal when the recuperated powder in the collecting container reaches the upper level.
For automatic operation, the signal from the probe can be used to disable the control by the control unit with a timer, and the shut-off means can be set to allow recuperated powder to flow into the branch pipe. In order to ensure a constant flow of powder into the powder container of the coating device during automatic operation by means of time-controlled shut-off devices, a probe for determining a lower filling level can also be arranged on the collecting container, which emits a signal when the recuperated powder in the collecting container reaches the lower level, whereby through the signal of this probe for the lower level the shut-off means of the branch pipe are set to the inlet of fresh powder.
With the help of these two probes, the shut-off means of the pipe branch can also be controlled in order to obtain a practically constant composition of the coating material from recuperated and fresh powder.
If a lot of powder is sprayed without interruption, the fresh powder silo may be completely emptied during the coating process, in which case the powder container of the coating device would not be adequately supplied with recuperated powder. In order to prevent this during automatic operation, the fresh powder conveying line in the supply system can be connected to the outlet of a storage vessel designed as a silo and a separator operated by a pneumatic conveying device can be arranged on the storage vessel, with a suction line intended for connection to a fresh powder reserve container on the supply line connected.
The separator of the fresh powder storage vessel is preferably connected to the existing pneumatic conveying device of the separator assigned to the screening machine, a shut-off valve being arranged between the conveying device and the separator of the fresh powder storage vessel, which can be automatically controlled by signals from level probes arranged on the storage vessel. It is also useful to have a shut-off valve between the conveyor and the separator of the screening machine, e.g. to be able to interrupt the conveyance of recuperated and fresh powder while the storage container is being filled, if the powder supply in the coating device container has reached the maximum permissible level with little powder consumption.
This valve can also be controlled automatically by level probes arranged on the powder container of the coating device.
In the drawing, exemplary embodiments of the powder supply system according to the invention are shown schematically. Show it:
1 shows a system with fresh powder supply from a storage vessel, a cyclone separator and a fan as a conveying device for the recuperated and fresh powder and
2 shows a system for fully automatic operation with automatic refilling of the fresh powder storage vessel from a reserve container.
The coating devices shown in the drawing include at least one electrostatic powder atomizer 1 of conventional design, a high-voltage and control unit 2 to which the powder atomizer is connected by a cable 3 and a powder container 4, e.g. kege liter form, from the outlet of which a powder line, preferably a flexible hose 5, leads to the atomizer 1. The powder atomizer 1 is located in the cabin K, which is only indicated in the drawing. Objects G to be coated are guided through the cabin K by a conveyor chain F.
From the cabin K a suction pipe 7 leads to an automatic filter device 6, e.g. Includes filter bags.
A fan 8 sucks air out of the cabin K through the filter device 6 and the suction pipe 7, so that a certain slight negative pressure and thus a pressure gradient from the outside to the inside is constantly maintained in it. During coating, the air sucked out of the booth is loaded with the falling coating powder, which is recuperated in the filter device 6 and collected in a container 9 attached to the conical bottom of the filter device.
One inlet 10 a of a pipe branch 10 is connected to the collecting container 9. A fresh powder conveying line 13 is connected to the other inlet 10b of the pipe branch 10. A further conveying line 15 connects the outlet 10c of the pipe branch 10 with a separator 16, which delivers recuperated and fresh powder via a lock 17 into the sieving machine 18 arranged on the powder container 4 of the coating device. The separator 16 is connected to a pneumatic conveying device 19. To this extent, the structure of the embodiments of the powder supply system shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is the same.
In the simpler embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the pipe branch 10 is connected via a valve 11 and 12 to the collecting container 9 of the filter device 6 and to the fresh powder feed line 13, and the fresh powder feed line 13 is immersed in a storage vessel with fresh powder, which z. B. can be the shipping container. The separator 16 is a relatively cheap cyclone separator, and a fan is connected to it as a pneumatic conveying device 19.
Since there will always be powder particles in the exhaust air of the fan, the exhaust air outlet of the fan is connected to the filter device 6 by a pipe 20 in order to also filter this exhaust air. A level probe 22a of known type is arranged on the collecting container 9 and emits a signal when the powder supply in the collecting container has reached a certain upper level. The two shut-off valves 11 and 12 of the pipe branch 10 can be operated by hand in particularly simple systems, with a signal from the level probe 22a opening the valve 11 for the intake of recuperated powder and blocking the valve 12 for the intake of fresh powder. The two shut-off valves 11 and 12 can, however, preferably be actuated automatically and controlled by a control unit 21.
In the system according to FIG. 1, the control device 21 is designed as a timer and opens and closes the two valves 11 and 12 alternately so that recuperated powder, then fresh powder and again recuperated powder, etc. are sucked into the separator 16 for a certain period of time becomes. The switching times can be set depending on the powder requirement. With an even powder requirement, such a timer is practically sufficient. However, if there is an irregularity in the powder consumption, it could happen that the powder supply in the collecting container rises to the upper level. The signal then emitted by the probe 22a switches off the timing and opens the valve 11 for recuperated powder. An accumulation of a lot of powder in the filter device is thus completely excluded.
The pressure in the filter device 6 and in the suction pipe 7 is, as is usual in such systems, monitored by means of a pressure transducer 23 and preferably kept constant automatically.
In the fully automatic supply system with fresh powder refilling of the storage vessel shown in FIG. 2, for example, the branch pipe 10 'contains a shut-off device 11' for alternately opening and closing the two inlets 10'a and 10'b. The separator 16 on the screening machine 18 is e.g. a filter separator which is connected through an air line 24 and a shut-off valve 25 to an alternately sucking and counter-blowing conveying device 19 '. The fresh powder conveying line 13 connects the inlet 10'b of the pipe branch 10 'with the outlet 14'a of a storage vessel 14' designed in the form of a conical silo.
A second separator 28 is arranged on the storage vessel 14 'and is also connected to the pneumatic conveying device 19' via an air line 27 and a shut-off valve 26, so that the separator 16 or the separator 28 can possibly also both be operated together.
The two shut-off valves 25 and 26 and the shut-off element 11 'of the pipe branch 10' can be actuated automatically, specifically in accordance with control signals.
Two probes 22a and 22b are arranged on the collecting container 9 of the filter device 6, of which one probe 22a emits a control signal when the powder supply in the collecting container 9 reaches an upper filling level, and the other probe 22b emits a control signal when the powder supply drops to a lower level Level has dropped. The shut-off device 10 'is controlled by the control signals in such a way that when there is a signal from the probe 22a for the upper filling level, the first inlet 10'a is open and the second inlet 10'b is blocked, i.e.
that only powder from the collecting container 9 can reach the separator 16 through the branch pipe 10 ′. When there is a signal from the second probe 22b, the first inlet 10'a is blocked and the second inlet 10'b is open, so that only fresh powder from the storage vessel 14 'can reach the separator through the pipe branch 10'.
The shut-off valve 25 arranged in the air duct 24 of the first separator 16 is controlled by a probe 32 arranged on the powder container 4 of the coating device, which emits a signal when the level in the powder container reaches an upper level. If the powder in the container 4 reaches the upper level, the shut-off valve 25 is closed via a signal from the probe 32, so that the separator 16 is put out of operation. A probe for a lower filling level can also be provided, the signal of which ensures that the shut-off valve 25 is always open and the separator 16 is in operation when the powder level in the container 4 reaches the lower level.
Two level probes 31a and 31b are also provided on the fresh powder storage vessel 14 ′, by means of which the shut-off valve 26 in the air line pipe 27 of the second separator 28 is controlled. If the fresh powder supply in the storage vessel 14 'sinks to the lower level, the probe 31b controls the shut-off valve 26 in the open position, and fresh powder is sucked from the reserve container 30 into the separator 28 through the suction line 29 and the powder supply in the storage vessel 14' is refilled . If the powder supply in the storage vessel 14 'reaches the upper level, the shut-off valve 26 is in any case brought into the blocking position by a signal from the probe 3 1a, thus stopping the refilling of powder. Suitable designs of the probes 25, 26 and 27 are known, as are control devices for the shut-off means of the pipe branch and the shut-off valves.
To explain the automatic mode of operation of the system shown in FIG. 2, it is assumed that the powder container 4 of the storage vessel 14 'and the reserve container 30 contain powder, while the collecting container 9 on the filter device 6 is empty. After switching on the power supply, the valve 25 is open, the valve 26 is blocked, and the branch pipe 10 'has an open inlet 10'b for fresh powder. Fresh powder reaches the powder container 4 of the coating device via the first separator 16 and the sieving machine 18. As the coating progresses, recuperated powder collects in the collecting container 9.
If the recuperated powder in the collecting container 9 reaches the upper level, the pipe branch 10 'automatically switches to a signal from the probe 22a, and after all the fresh powder in the conveying line 15 has been sucked off, only recuperated powder is fed into the powder container 4 promoted until the powder level in the collecting container 9 reaches the lower level, whereupon the pipe branch 10 'is reset again via a signal from the probe 22b. Recuperated and fresh powder accumulates in layers in the powder container 4 of the coating device and is thoroughly mixed by an agitator provided in the powder container.
The system described above can be adapted to the respective requirements without difficulty. For example, for increased performance, the separator 28 for refilling fresh powder can be connected to its own conveyor device. In the case of coating devices with a lower output, in which the powder supply that can be stored in the fresh powder supply vessel will be sufficient, the reserve container 30 and the second separator 28 can be omitted. The most varied of variations are also possible in the control of the pipe branch 10 'and the shut-off valves 25 and 26. E.g.
Timing controls can be provided, which switch on by signals from the probes for the respective lower level and switch off after a set time, so that the probes for the respective upper level can only be retained or omitted entirely as safety measures.
