Safety device for fixing the front end of a boot on a ski
The present invention relates to a device for securely fastening the front end of a boot to a ski comprising an element articulated about an axis transverse to the ski to allow the boot to pivot around this axis in walking position, a plate intended to support the boot and provided at the front with a retaining member.
The device according to the invention is characterized by two jaws resiliently clamping said retaining member together, these two jaws forming part of a movable assembly capable of sliding on a support fixed to the ski, in two determined positions, one in forward for walking with the articulated element engaged with said plate and the laterally fixed retaining member, and the other rear position corresponding to the safety position with the retaining member releasable laterally and vertically from the two jaws.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device forming the subject of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1 in section.
Fig. 3 is a section similar to FIG. 2 in another position.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the device in the same position as FIG. 3.
The device shown is used for the safety fixing of the front end of a boot 1 on a ski. I1 comprises a plate 2 articulated about a transverse axis X-X (Fig. 4). This plate 2 is mounted for this purpose on two journals 3 and a torsion spring 4 is arranged around each of these journals to normally hold the plate 2 against the ski. The rear part of this plate 2 has a recess 5.
A plate 6 on which the shoe 1 is fixed is provided at the front with a retaining sphere 7. A housing 8 is provided in the thickness of the plate 6 to receive the recess 5 of the plate 2 in the position shown. in fig. 1 and 2.
The retaining sphere 7 is integral with a block 6 'produced with the plate 6 and serving as a stop for the front end of the sole of the boot 1. For this purpose, a groove 9 is made in the block 6 '. The sphere 7 is clamped between two jaws 10 and 11 having corresponding spherical surfaces. The jaw 10 is pushed by a spring 12 against the sphere 7 which bears against the jaw 11, the tension of the spring 12 being able to be adjusted using a screw 13.
The two jaws 10 and 11 form part of a movable assembly capable of sliding on a support 14 fixed on the ski, in two determined positions. These two positions are fixed by two notches 15 formed in the part 11 'produced with the jaw 11 and in which a lock 16 engages. This lock 16 is formed, for example, by a cylinder biased by a spring 17 and having a flat 16 'allowing the movable assembly 10 and 11 to slide into one or the other of the positions determined by the notches 15. To release the latch 16 from one of these notches 15, one can use, for example, the tip of the ski pole and push the latch 16 down against the action of the spring 17 so as to bring the flat 16 'in. look of the notch.
The operation of the device described is as follows:
When the skier wants to go from the descent position to the walking position, he advances the mobile equipment to the position of FIGS. 1 and 2 by acting on the latch 16 as described above. This has the effect of disengaging the plate 6 from the rear retaining mechanism (not shown) and initiating the step. 5 of the articulated plate 2 in the housing 8 of said plate. The sphere 7 is moved between the two fixed walls of the support 14 so that it cannot move sideways. The skier can then walk by lifting the plate 6 which pivots around the journals 3 as shown in phantom in FIGS. 1 and 2. To achieve this movement, the skier must overcome the force of the springs 4 which urge the plate 6 against the ski via the plate 2.
These springs 4 have the effect of preventing the articulation of the plate 6 from being too free, which would make walking difficult.
The position of the mobile assembly 10, 11 shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 correspond to the safety position in the event of lateral torsion of the skier's foot. The plate 6 has moved back and is retained at the rear by the mechanism, not shown. The sphere 7 has also retreated by the same distance following the rearward movement of the movable assembly 10, 11, the notch 15 having given way to the notch 15 'in which the lock 16 can engage as shown. in fig. 4.
In the event of a torsional force exceeding a certain determined value, the sphere 7 can move sideways and disengage from the jaws 10 and 11 as shown in phantom in FIG. 4.
The position in phantom in FIG. 3 shows the case of a rear fall where the front end of the boot is lifted, which releases the sphere 7 upwards.
