Trailer for the storage and transport of temporary signaling devices
We know that it is customary to mark out roadways (roads, highways, etc.) when repair, alteration or renovation work is undertaken on them.
This precaution aims firstly to ensure the safety of motorists and other users of such roads and, secondly, to guarantee the safety of workers working on the road site.
Such markup can be achieved by arranging, along the edges of the site, conical signaling markers with a flat base, colored alternately in white and in red. These beacons are distributed at regular intervals and may be fitted with retro-reflecting or luminous means, permanent or flashing, which indicate their presence, at night or in poor visibility.
In order to prevent access to the site, barriers are used, some of which, particularly practical, have several feet which can be moved apart or brought together at will and which carry at least a network of two-colored rods, half white, half red, articulated end to end, in two crossed zigzags.
These barriers, of adjustable length, can be folded accordion-style and, their feet being folded, have only a small footprint.
In order to warn motorists of the danger posed to them by the presence of the site, the law requires that traffic signs be placed on the road and at a certain distance from the site.
These regulatory signs have, for example, the shape of a triangle for the DANGER indication and that of a circular disc for the indication of a STOP.
Their installation around the site must be quick and easy. Special arrangements have therefore been designed for this purpose. This is, for each panel, a folding frame formed of a rectangular base, produced by assembling metal angles, in the center of which is articulated a supporting mast, folding on the base and on which is fixed, by example by means of screws, the panel. The wheelbase of this base is sufficient to ensure perfect stability of the panel even in strong winds. In addition, when the mast is folded over this base, the assembly has, in terms of thickness, only a small footprint which makes it possible to stack such panels using minimum storage space.
The fact remains that the beacons, barriers and traffic signs which have just been described and which form the standard lot for road site safety, constitute a heterogeneous set of which the transport, carried out until now in bulk in a construction truck, is irrational, causes clutter and a noticeable waste of time when loading or unloading.
The present invention obviates this drawback.
The trailer according to the invention for the storage and transport of temporary signaling devices, in particular signaling devices for road construction sites, consisting of a rigid frame mounted on an axle, at least part of which forms a cage, characterized by the the fact that the interior volume of the cage is divided into several housings, one of which, central, comprises lateral uprights supporting stepped longitudinal slides equipped with locking means, and in that the part of the rigid frame outside the cage is equipped with stacking storage means.
An embodiment of the trailer which is the subject of the invention will be described, by way of example, with reference to the appended drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the trailer on which only signaling beacons are mounted.
Fig. 2 shows, seen from the back, this trailer in which only a folded barrier and two traffic signs of different dimensions are loaded.
Fig. 3 is a side view of the same trailer in which are only loaded a folded barrier and two traffic signs arranged in their housing.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a member ensuring the locking of the bases of the traffic signs in their housing.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a traffic sign, as loaded in the trailer, in the position of use.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of an expandable barrier, as loaded in the trailer, in the position of use.
Referring first to Figs. 1 and 2, the trailer 1 consists of a rigid framework 2, metal, mounted on an axle, not shown, provided with two wheels 3, 4. A set of leaf springs 5 ensures the suspension of this framework.
A traction arm 6 makes it possible to hook the trailer 1 to a towing vehicle, not shown. A mudguard 7, 8 is fixed laterally on the trailer, above each wheel 3 and 4 respectively.
This framework 2 is produced by welding hollow metal beams 9 of square section. It is in the form of a parallelepipedal cage limiting an interior volume divided into several housings.
A first central housing 10, which opens to the rear of the trailer, is intended for housing the traffic signs 11, some of which, 1 la, having a reduced width, are housed in the lower part 1 0a of the central housing 10 and of which others, 1 lb, having a greater width, are housed in the upper part 1 0b of the same central housing 10.
While part 10b occupies the entire interior width of the trailer, part 10a occupies only a central part and is flanked by two side housings 12 and 13 in each of which can be housed a folded barrier 14.
Posterior rulers 15. 16 and earlier 17, 18 longitudinally limit the housings 12, 13, in which the folded barrier 14 is introduced or from which it is extracted laterally above the wheels 3, 4, in the direction indicated by the arrow 19 and 20 respectively through a window 21 and 22 respectively.
A sheet 23 laterally completes the splash protection already partially offered by the mudguards 7, 8. This sheet can however be removed if necessary.
An angle 24 forming a stop allows the folded barrier 14 to be wedged longitudinally in its housing.
This barrier is also supported, frontally, on the strip 17, 18.
Two feet 25 and 26 make it possible, when the trailer is no longer coupled to its towing vehicle, to tilt it backwards in order to ensure the loading or unloading of the signaling means in a stable manner.
The floor of the trailer is provided with a protective sheet 27.
Between the vertical beams 91 and 93, on the one hand, and 94 and 92, on the other hand, are stretched metal slats 28 on which are fixed U-shaped metal angles, 29, in which slide longitudinally the lateral ends 30 of the base of the traffic signs (fig. 5), these being folded back.
Locking pieces 31 are welded to the rear ends of these U-shaped angles, 29. These parts (fig. 4) comprise a handle 31a for their attachment to these angles 29 and a tongue 31b pivoting in this handle about an axis 31c.
After the introduction, during loading, of the panels in their housing, these tabs 31b are folded down by simple gravity and prevent any longitudinal displacement towards the rear of the traffic signs otherwise blocked, towards the front, by the presence of the beams 93 and 94.
The metal slats 28 are replaced by U angles 29a and 29b for the lower slide, while such U angles are stretched directly between the outer beams 95, 96 and 97, 98 respectively, in the upper part 10b of the central housing 10.
These slats are removed in the slide whose U-shaped angles 29c and 29d are fixed directly to the rear beams 99 and 100. These beams 99 and 100 mark the separation between part 1 0a and part 1 0b of the central housing 10 of the trailer.
The rear of the upper part 1 0b of the central housing is closed by tilting a rectangular panel 32, the obverse of which is marked SERVICE and appears when looking at the trailer from behind, the panel being in the folded position and the back of which bears the word WORKS and appears when, with the trailer stationary, this sign is raised during the loading or unloading of the signaling means. These two positions of the panel 32 are shown respectively in FIGS. 1 and 2.
Two fly-wing levers 33, 34 make it possible, when moving the trailer, to keep the panel 32 folded down.
The trailer is surmounted by a gallery 35 for multiple use and whose floor, not shown and not compulsory, serves as the roof for the trailer. This gallery has vertical guard rails 36, 37, 38 and 39 at its four corners.
As shown in fig. 3, the front part of the trailer is provided with tripods 40 (three in number), the base of which is fixed on a metal extension 41.
On these tripods are placed, stacked one on top of the other, the signaling beacons shown partially in fig. 1.
It is planned to accommodate in the trailer described a dozen traffic signs, some having a width greater than the other; two barriers and twenty-four beacons in three columns of 8 beacons each.
It is clear, however, that one can provide, depending on the dimensions given to the trailer, to accommodate a different number of signaling means.
Of course, the trailer is provided with a sign plate 50.
Means, not shown and optional, may be provided, such as one or more metal rods welded to the base of the panel 32 to ensure additional locking of the panels in their housing.
It will be noted that when the signaling means contained in the trailer in question are put into action,
The user can immediately remove one of the DANGER signs from the trailer to place it immediately and before any other for unloading, on the road, several meters behind the trailer which, as well as the rest of the convoy, is then protected from traffic on the road.
