1. Mehrwertige Phenole, wie z. B. Pyrogallol und Ester der Gallussäure,
2. Substituierte einwertige Phenole, insbesondere alkylcycloalkyl-, aralkyl-, aryl- und alkoxysubstituierte Phenole, z. B. 2-(a-Methylcyclohexyl)-4, 6-dimethylph nol, 2,6-Di-tert.-butyl-4-methylphenol, 4-Benzyl-2, 6-di- hydroxymethyiphenol und 2, 6-Di-tert. -butyl-4-methoxy- phenol,
3. Bisphenole, wie z. B.
Bis-[2-hydroxy-3-(a-methylcyclohexyl)-
5 -methylphenyl]-methan,
1 ,1-Bis-(2-hydroxy-3,5-dimethylphenyl) 1-n-octylmethan und Bis-(3-tert.-butyl-2-hydroxy-5 -methylphenyl) methan,
2-(a-Methylcyclohexyl)-4,6-dimethylphenol, Bis-[2-hydroxy-3-(a-methylcyclohexyl)

Process for the antistatic finishing of textiles
The present invention relates to a method for the antistabic finishing of textiles which contain synthetic linear polyamides by heating the textile material in the presence of a compound which has a polyalkylene oxide chain.
It is already known to treat textile fibers made of synthetic linear polyamides with compounds which have a polyalkylene oxide chain with heating in order to give them e.g. B. to impart improved moisture absorption and a reduction in the tendency to accept charges of static electricity. During heating in such processes, the compounds having a polyalkylene oxide chain are in danger of degradation due to the action of heat and the action of oxygen at elevated temperatures. As a result of the degradation, the treatment methods are less effective than they would otherwise be, with the result that either the effect obtained is inadequate or an excessive amount of the compound must be used.
Many compounds having a polyalkylene oxide chain are known for the treatment of synthetic linear polyamides with heating. The following are examples of such known compounds and methods of applying them to synthetic linear polyamides with heating.
1. The method of British patent specification number 747 827, according to which a textile made of synthetic linear polyamide is treated with an organic polyisocyanate and a compound having a polyethylene oxide chain which contains at least two hydroxyl groups in the molecule (for example a polyethylene glycol with an average molecular weight of 300) and the reaction is completed by heating, for example to a temperature in the range from 100 to 15QOC, in order to impart a permanent antistatic effect.
2. Carbamic acid esters, which are obtained by reacting a polyisocyanate (e.g. 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate) with a phenol and a polyethoxy alcohol (e.g. the condensate of one mole of glycol monomethyl ether with 10 moles of ethylene oxide) and are described in British Patent No. 89 1009 and can be used for the treatment of textiles.
3. The method of British patent specification number 911485, according to which a condensation product is applied to polyamide textiles, which is composed of an alkylene oxide condensate with a molecular weight in the range from 200 to 1000, which contains at least two primary amino groups and at least one polyalkylene oxide chain (for example the from a poly ethylene glycol of approximate molecular weight 600 produced diamine), by reaction with an orga African compound that contains two or more nitrogen-alkylating groups bonded to an organic radical (z.
B. 1-chloro-3-bromopropane), and the textiles are then heated to a temperature of 130 to 2100 C to give a permanent antistatic effect.
4. The reaction of polyamines containing at least two primary or secondary amino groups that are not part of an oxyaminopropyl group and at least one polyalkylene oxide chain (e.g. the polyamine derived from a polyoxyethylene glycol with an average molecular weight of 600) with polyisocyanates or substances , which behave like polyisocyanates (e.g. the adduct of tolylene 2,4-diisocyanate and 2 moles of phenol), are obtained products which are described in British Patent No. 943,689 and which can be applied to nylon textiles, the material being an can then be heated, preferably to temperatures in the range from 130 to 21010C, in order to impart a permanent antistatic effect.

6. The method of British patent specification number 909 600, according to which textiles made of hydrophobic synthetic fibers, e.g. B. a fabric made of polycaprolactam, with a solution containing 1,3, 5-triacroyl hexahydro-s-triazine and at least two terminal primary amino groups that are combined with polyethylene glycol residues or polymeric ethylene oxide groups (z. B. a a, w-diamine, which is made from a polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of about 600 by replacing the two terminal hydroxyl groups with amino groups), treated and dried at elevated temperatures in order to give washable antistatic finishes.
7. The method of British patent specification number 769 014, according to which a solution of a polymer of an unsaturated monobasic acid or an unreacted carboxyl group-containing copolymer of one or more unsaturated monobasic or dibasic acids with one or more vinyl or vinylidene compounds of the type is applied to hydrophobic synthetic polyamide fibers:

B. the condensate of glycerol with 18 moles of ethylene oxide), are obtained and are described in British Patent No. 976 712 and can be formed in situ on Polyamidtextilmateriai by treating it with an aqueous solution of the components and a catalyst in impregnated and then dried and heated to an elevated temperature, expediently between 100 and 2103C, in order to give resistant antistatic properties to washing and dry cleaning.
It has now been found that the degradation is reduced to the minimum value and the treatment methods mentioned are more effective if an antioxidant compound is also present when the textile material is heated in the presence of the compound which has a polyalkylene oxide chain.
The method according to the invention is therefore characterized in that the heating also takes place in the presence of an antioxidant.
As synthetic linear polyamides, linear polymers that have repeating amide bonds in the main polymer chain are suitable. Such polymers are obtained, for example, by polycondensation of amino acids or by polycondensation of diamines with dicarboxylic acids. In particular, mention should be made of nylon, which includes polyhexamethylene adipamide and polycaprolactam as known examples.
The method according to the invention is particularly applicable to rovings, yarns, fibrous nonwovens, woven fabrics, knitted fabrics and endless threads and fibers. Such textiles can consist entirely or partially of synthetic linear polyamides.
The alkylene oxide preferably contains 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and in particular the alkylene groups of the alkylene oxide are

Mixtures of antioxidants can be used if desired, and it is sometimes advantageous to do so. For example, synergistic combinations of a phenol and a sulfur-containing compound, such as. B. a mixture of dilauryl thiodipropionate with the condensate of crotonaldehyde and 2-tert-butyl-5-methylphenol can be used.
It is expedient in the process according to the invention to apply the compound which has a polyalkylene oxide chain and the antioxidant to the textile material before heating. In any case, the antioxidant with said compound must be present during the heating in order to prevent the latter from degrading. The two reagents are expediently applied from an aqueous medium.
Although they can be applied separately, in most cases it will be convenient to apply them together. The aqueous medium can be neutral, but can, if desired or expedient, be acidic or alkaline. The compound having a polyalkylene oxide chain and the antioxidant should preferably be soluble or readily dispersible in the aqueous medium, whether it is neutral, acidic or alkaline.
The aqueous solution or dispersion of the compound which has a polyalkylene oxide chain, and the antioxidant can be applied to the textile in any convenient manner, for. B. by dipping or spraying or with the help of a brush or a roller :, can be applied. However, it is advisable to impregnate the textile material with the aqueous solution or dispersion and then to squeeze or spin it in order to remove the excess liquid. The application of the aqueous solution or dispersion takes place expediently at ordinary temperature, but if desired, the application can be carried out at a moderately elevated temperature, e.g. B. at temperatures up to 500 C, take place.
After the aqueous solution or dispersion has been applied to the textile material, the latter is expediently dried before heating, although drying and heating can take place in one operation. The drying can take place at ordinary temperature, but is preferably carried out at a moderately elevated temperature, e.g. B. at temperatures of up to 1200 C.
The amount of the compound which has a polyalkylene oxide chain applied to the textile material can vary depending on the nature of the compound and the textile material and on the desired effect.
In general, however, the amount applied is between 0.1 and 5% by weight, based on the textile material.
The amount of antioxidant which is applied to the textile material is usually a small part of the weight of the applied compound, which has a polyalkylene oxide chain, generally 0.1 to 5.0, based on said compound.
If desired, a crosslinking agent or a resin precondensate can be applied to the textile material before heating, which reacts under the conditions of the auxiliary, if desired in the presence of a catalyst, with the compound having a polyalkylene oxide chain, and possibly also with the polyamide, so that said Compound on the synthetic linear polyamide is made insoluble.
Such catalysts, crosslinking agents and resin precondensates can be applied together with the mentioned compound and the antioxidant, or they can be applied separately.
The catalyst used can be of many different types depending on the type of reaction one wishes to accelerate. It can for example be acidic or alkaline catalysts. If, however, resin precondensates are used, acidic catalysts are particularly suitable, especially since strong mineral acids tend to degrade the synthetic linear polyamide when heated, weakly acidic substances or substances which liberate acid when heated.
Examples of such substances include other organic acids such as oxalic acid, salts of weak bases and strong acids such as zinc chloride, the mineral acid salts of organic amines and especially ammonium salts such as ammonium sulfate and ammonium chloride, and practically neutral substances that are used in Heating will develop acidity, such as B. Magnesium chloride and ammonium thiocyanate, called. If desired, mixtures of such catalysts can be used.
Suitable crosslinking agents include aldehydes and dialdehydes, such as. B. formaldehyde, acrolein and glyoxal, and cyanuric halides and dihalotriazine derivatives.
The resin precondensates include the products of the initial stages of the condensation of formaldehyde with nitrogen compounds, such as. B. urea, thiourea, dicyandiamide, amides, amines, carbamates, aminotriazines, urons, ureines, ureides, imidazolidones, pyridones, and triazones, especially the methylol derivatives of such compounds and the lower alkyl ethers of such methylol derivatives, the methylol derivatives of nitrogen-containing polymers, such . B.
water-soluble urea-formaldehyde polycondensates, polyacrylamine and addition copolymers that contain acrylamide, and the lower alkyl ethers of such methylol derivatives, and polyacetals, such as. B. acetal condensation products of aldehydes such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, glyoxal, malondialdehyde, succindialdehyde, adipaldehyde, hydroxyadipaldehyde and terephthalaldehyde, with alcohols such. B.
Ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, glycerin, pentaerythritol and dipentaerythritol, particularly polyacetals of the type described in U.S. Patent Nos. 2,785,947, 2785 948, 2785969, 2785995, 2785996 and 2786081. If desired, mixtures of such compounds can be used. Lower alkyl ethers are methyl, sithyl, propyl or butyl ethers. The use of other textile auxiliaries is given.
The heating is normally carried out at temperatures of 70 to 2000 C for 10 seconds to 30 minutes, the higher the temperature, the shorter the time required.
After heating, the textile can be rinsed in water and, if desired, in a hot solution of a detergent, which also contains an alkali, such as. B.
soda ash, may be washed to neutralize any residual acidic catalyst. Finally, the textile material can be rinsed with water and dried.
The method according to the invention can be carried out before, in connection with or after other chemical or mechanical finishing operations, such as e.g. B. to give resistance to shrinkage and wrinkling, to modify the handle or the
Surface gloss, used to impart water repellency and optical luminosity, can be applied.
Textiles which contain synthetic linear polyamides and which have been treated according to the invention show, inter alia, improved moisture absorption and a reduction in the tendency to take up charges of static electricity and to soil them.
The process according to the invention has the advantage over similar processes in which no antioxidant is used that the effect obtained is greater or a smaller amount of compounds having a polyalkylene oxide chain can be used in order to obtain the same effect. In many cases, the desired properties imparted are not easily destroyed by repeated washing or cleaning operations. Moreover, the appearance of the treated fabrics is changed very little and these retain their desirable inherent properties, such as resistance to wrinkling or crushing.
In the following examples the parts and percentages are given by weight.
example 1
A fabric made of fibers made of polyamide filaments was impregnated with an aqueous solution containing 4 parts of a condensate of polycaprolactam with ethylene oxide with a nitrogen content of 3.3 50, 0.1 part pyrogallol and 95.9 parts water, and squeezed off so that it retained 50% of its dry weight of the liquid. The fabric was then dried at 700 ° C. and heated to 1900 ° C. for 1 minute.
Compared to an untreated control fabric, the resulting fabric had a reduced tendency to accept and retain static electricity charges and improved moisture absorbency.
These effects were practically maintained after repeated washing in a solution containing 0.1% soap and 0.1% soda ash at 600 ° C. in a rotating drum washing machine.
If a piece of a similar fabric was treated in the same way with the polyamide-ethylene oxide condensate, but in the absence of pyrogallol, the level of antistatic protection after washing was markedly reduced.
Example 2
A fabric made of polyamide fibers was impregnated in an aqueous solution containing 1.6 parts of a hydroxyethylated cellulose, 0.4 parts of the polycaprolactam used in Example 1 - ethylene oxide condensate, 0.4 parts of the methylated urea formaldehyde condensate, which is as in Example 8 of British Patent No. 953,754, 0.2 parts ammonium chloride, 0.1 part pyrogallol and 97.3 parts water. The fabric was then squeezed so that it retained 50% of its dry weight in liquid, dried at 1000 C and heated to 1900 C for one minute.
Compared to an untreated control fabric, the resulting fabric had a reduced tendency to pick up and retain electrostatic charges, improved moisture absorbency and a reduced tendency to soil.
These effects were retained to a greater extent after repeated washes than those obtained on a piece of fabric treated as above but in the absence of the antioxidant.
Example 3
A fabric made of polyamide filaments was impregnated with an aqueous solution which contained 6.7 parts of the polycaprolactam-ethylene oxide condensate used in Example 1 and 0.5 part of a 30% nonionic dispersion of zinc diethyldithiocarbamate in 92.8 parts of water. The fabric was squeezed so that it retained 30% of its dry weight in liquid, dried at 1000 ° C. for one minute and heated to 2000 ° C. for 30 seconds.
Compared with an untreated fabric, the treated nylon had a markedly reduced tendency to take up and retain electrostatic charges, an improved moisture-slip absorption capacity and a reduced tendency to soil, these properties being practically retained during washing. The improvements obtained were more pronounced and lasting than those obtained in the absence of zinc diethyl dithiocarbamate.
Example 4
A fabric made of polyamide fibers was impregnated with an aqueous solution containing 5 parts of the polycaprolactam used in Example 1 - ethylene oxide condensate, 0.5 part of the methylated urea formaldehyde condensate, as described in Example 8 of British Patent No. 953,754 was prepared, 0.25 part of ammonium chloride and 0.6 part of a 20% strength nonionic dispersion of bis [2-hydroxy-3 - (a-methylcyclohexyl) -5-methylphenyl] methane contained in 94 parts of water. The fabric was squeezed so that it retained 40% of its dry weight in liquid, dried at 1000 ° C. for one minute and then heated to 2000 ° C. for 30 seconds.
The treated nylon had very improved moisture absorbency and very improved antistatic and anti-soiling properties compared to the untreated fabric. These properties were practically retained when the treated fabric was washed. The effects produced and their durability against washing were superior to those produced by treatment carried out in the absence of the antioxidant.
Example 5
A fabric made of polyamide fibers was impregnated with an aqueous solution containing 5 parts of the polycaprolactam-ethylene oxide condensate used in Example 1, 1 part of a 50% aqueous solution of dimethylolethyleneurea, 0.5 part of magnesium chloride hexahydrate, 0.25 part of acetic acid and 0.6 parts of a 20% strength nonionic dispersion of dilauryl thiodipropionate to 93 parts of water. The nylon was squeezed so that it retained 40% of its dry weight in liquid, dried at 800 ° C. for one minute and heated to 2000 ° C. for 30 seconds.
The resulting fabric had a greatly reduced tendency to pick up and retain electrostatic charges, much improved moisture absorbency, and was less staining than untreated nylon. These improvements in fabric properties were more pronounced and more durable against laundering than those produced in the absence of the dilauryl thiodipropionate.
Example 6
A fabric made of polyamide fibers was impregnated with an aqueous mixture, the 5 parts of the reaction product of paraformaldehyde and the condensate of glycerol with 23 mol of ethylene oxide (prepared as described below), part of the urea-formaldehyde precondensate, which is as in Example 2 of the British patent No. 953 754 was prepared, 0.5 part of ammonium chloride, 1 part of a 20, nu igen aqueous nonionic dispersion of the antioxidant bis- [2-hydroxy-3- (a-methylcyclohexyl) -5-methylphenyl] methane and 92, Contained 5 parts of water.
The fabric was squeezed so that it retained 30% of its dry weight, dried for 1 minute at 1200 ° C. and then on for an additional minute
Heated to 1400 C.
Compared to an untreated control fabric, the resulting fabric had a reduced tendency to accept and retain electrostatic charges and improved moisture absorbency. These effects were retained after washing to a greater extent than those imparted to a piece of fabric treated as above but in the absence of the antioxidant.
The reaction product used in this example was prepared by reacting 220.8 parts of the condensate of glycerol and 23 moles of ethylene oxide with 6.6 parts of paraformaldehyde in the presence of one part of p-toluenesulfonic acid and 160 parts of toluene by means of a process practically similar to that in Example 4 was similar to that described in British Patent No. 976,712.
