Beim Trocknen bzw.

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Method for treating textiles
It is known that textiles and other fibrous materials can be made oil-repellent with aqueous solutions or dispersions of compounds which have a plurality of perfluoroalkyl groups with at least 4 carbon atoms per alkyl group. However, the resulting oil-repellent effects of the textiles are not sufficiently resistant to washing treatments at higher temperatures.
The water-repellent effects that can be achieved with this known treatment are not sufficient for the usual claims. Another disadvantage is that the aqueous solutions or dispersions of these perfluoroalkyl compounds tend to form roller coatings when the textiles are treated on a padder and thus make continuous treatment difficult or impossible.
It has now been found that these disadvantages inherent in the known treatment process can be avoided by impregnating the textiles with liquors which, in addition to the compounds which have a plurality of perfluoroalkyl groups, also contain dispersions of N-alkyl-N '. N'-alkylene ureas whose alkyl radical contains more than 10 carbon atoms.
Surprisingly, it turns out that even very small amounts of these alkyl-alkylene ureas not only bring about a substantial improvement in the water-repellent effect, but also almost completely prevent the formation of roller coverings during the treatment of textiles on the padder and thus enable continuous treatment. In addition, the oil-repellent effect is not only not reduced, but even increased in its wash resistance. This is surprising because the presence of compounds with high alkyl radicals would otherwise greatly impair the oil-repellent effect.
Another advantage of the method according to the invention is that the alkyl-alkylene ureas to be used produce a pleasant, soft, flowing handle on the textiles, which is particularly desirable.
The method is particularly useful for treating woolen materials or materials made from fully synthetic fibers, e.g. B. polyester, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile fibers are suitable. However, it can also be used with very good effects on other fabrics made of fibrous materials, both synthetic and natural. In particular, when applied to materials containing cellulose fibers, the method can be combined with a crease-proof finish at the same time. In this case, the fibrous materials can be equipped with a treatment liquor which, in addition to the substances according to the invention, also contains a suitable synthetic resin, such as B.
Methylolureas or their ethers, methylolmelamines or their ethers, as well as reactant resins such as methylolethyleneurea, methyloltriazone derivatives, and the catalyst necessary for curing the precondensates used.
As N-alkyl-N ', N'-alkylene ureas which contain an alkyl group with more than 10 carbon atoms, those with an alkyl group with 16-18 carbon atoms are used in particular.
The preparation of the dispersions of these compounds takes place in a known manner by reacting aliphatic isocyanates with a carbon chain of more than 10 carbon atoms with alkylene

Examples of compounds which contain a plurality of perfluoroalkyl groups with at least 4 carbon atoms per alkyl group are water-soluble chromium complex compounds of saturated perfluoromonocarboxylic acids or substituted carboxylic acids which contain at least one perfluoroalkyl group with at least 4 carbon atoms, as described in US Pat. No. 2,662,835 are described.
Further examples are aqueous dispersions of basic aluminum salts with saturated perfluoromonocarboxylic acids or substituted carboxylic acids, aqueous dispersions of polymers or mixed polymers of 1. 1-Dihydroperfluoroalkylacrylic acid esters, as described in US Pat. No. 2, 642, 416, aqueous dispersions of polymers or copolymers of monomeric compounds of the formula:

where RF is a perfluoroalkyl group with at least 4 carbon atoms, R is hydrogen or an alkyl group with 1 - 6 carbon atoms, R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical with 1 - 12 carbon atoms and zein is acrylic or methacrylic acid, or with aqueous dispersions of polymers of monomeric compounds of the formula
EMI2.2
wherein Rp, R and R have the same meaning as in the previous compound and X is a polymerizable radical such as an allyl-. Is methallyl or vinyl radical.
These perfluorinated compounds are used in amounts of 3 to 15 g, in particular 6 to 12 g of 100% solid products per liter of liquor.
The fiber material is finished by impregnating it with liquors, to which a saturated, monohydric alcohol with 3-4 carbon atoms or mixtures of such alcohols can be added for better wetting. The materials are then squeezed off, dried at 100-1200C and then condensed at 130-1600C for 3 to 10 minutes.
Man. can also use simple synthetic resins and corresponding catalysts.
For optimal oil and water-repellent effects and to increase their resistance to laundry and dry cleaning as well as optimal runnability, i.e. H. complete avoidance of roller coatings, the liquors according to the invention are additionally added to the water-insoluble condensation products of aminotriazines with at least 2 amino groups on the triazine ring, formaldehyde and monohydric, saturated alcohols with 1-5 carbon atoms, which are soluble in lower organic acids, with

Obtain atoms while distilling off the alcohol. Another production possibility consists in the reaction of etherified methylolaminotriazines with fatty acids and oxyalkylamines.
Furthermore, such products can be obtained by reacting aminotriazines acylated by fatty acids or alkylguanamines whose alkyl radical has more than 10 carbon atoms, or aminotriazine derivatives obtained by heating aminotriazines with at least 2 amino groups with at least 1 mol of an aliphatic isocyanate with more than 10 C atoms, with formaldehyde and oxyalkylamine in a lower alcohol.
The amount of water-insoluble, acid-soluble condensation product is 1 - 10 g of a 100% product per liter of liquor.
However, the effects according to the invention are also obtained if amounts as small as 0.1 to of the acid-soluble condensation product, based on the amido compound, ie. H. Alkyl-alkylene urea.
The acid-soluble compound can be used both in the form of about 50% mixtures with water-immiscible organic solvents, in particular hydrocarbons or halogenated carbons.

hydrogen, or in the form of about 50% mixtures with water-repellent substances, such as paraffin or wax, are used.
These water-insoluble condensation products, which are soluble in dilute organic acids, act to emulsify in aqueous acidic solution. When drying or condensing, however, they become insoluble and at the same time hydrophobic. These condensation products are used in particular in the form of aqueous emulsions which are formed by dissolving the mixtures of the condensation products with water-repellent substances, such as paraffin or waxes, or with water-immiscible solvents, such as hydrocarbons or halogenated hydrocarbons, with dilute organic acids.
However, ready-made mixtures of the emulsion of the alkyl-alkylene urea which already contain the approximately 50% solution of the water-insoluble condensation product soluble in dilute organic acids in water-immiscible organic solvents can be used. In this case in particular, amounts as small as 0.2 g can be used above.
Example 1: Each section of a polyester fabric with a square meter weight of 50 g (linen weave, warp 47 threads per cm, weft 40 threads per cm, both Nm 200) is impregnated with the liquors described below, squeezed off to about 50% liquor pick-up, at 1200C dried and condensed for 5 min at 1500C.
Liquor A: To prepare the liquor, 10 g of the emulsion of an alkyl-alkyleneurea described below are stirred in portions with 5 times the amount of water and added to a mixture of 30 ml of isobutanol and 700 ml of water, and 25 g of a 30% aqueous dispersion of a polymer therein , whose monomer units have the formula

have stirred in carefully. Then it is made up to 1000 ml with cold water.
Liquor B: 25 g of the above-described dispersion of the polymer are added to a mixture of 30 ml of isobutanol and 700 ml of water and then made up to 1000 ml.
The oil and water repellency was improved immediately after finishing, as well as after 3 washes with 2 g / l fatty alcohol sulfonate at 40 ° C. and the like. between the water repellency according to Bundesmann and the oil repellency with the mixtures of paraffin oil D.A. B. 6 and n-heptane specified below. Here, 1 drop of the specified mixtures is placed on the textile material using a pipette and the mixture with the highest heptane content that does not yet wet the textile material is determined. The oil repellency is then expressed by the oil repellency number corresponding to this mixture.

The dispersion of the N-alkyl-N ', N' -alkylene urea is produced according to the following process:
28.5 g of ethyleneimine are diluted with 125 g of distilled water and at 20 ° C. with a solution of 45 g of ricinoleic acid glyceride, which is etherified with 30 mol of ethylene oxide, in 126.5 g of distilled water to which 15 g of aqueous ammonia solution (density 0.990 ) was added, mixed. 200 g of octadecyl isocyanate are then slowly added dropwise to this solution with stirring and thorough cooling. After the reaction has ended, 450 g of distilled water and 10 g of aqueous ammonia solution are added and the mixture is now mechanically homogenized. A solution of 66 g of octadecyl oxymethylene oxyethylmorpholinium chloride in 134 g of distilled water is then used to make up to 1000 g.
Example 2: A cotton poplin with a square meter weight of 160 g (warp Nm 77, 58 threads per cm; weft Nm 65.24 threads per cm) is made as above with a liquor containing 10 g of the alkyl-alkylene urea dispersion described there, 25 g of the emulsion described there of a polymer with perfluoroalkyl groups and additionally contains 15 g of a 100% dimethylolurea and 4 g of ammonium chloride per liter.
The dimethylolurea is dissolved in 10 times the amount of hot water beforehand, isobutyl alcohol is added after cooling and the ammonium chloride is stirred in in the form of a 50% aqueous solution before making up to the final volume.
Immediately after finishing, the cotton fabric finished in this way shows a water absorption of 18, llo with a good water-repellent effect and an oil repellency of 90, the water absorption and the oil repellency hardly being impaired by 3 washes at 60.degree. The crease angle of the finished fabric is 1000 (as the average of warp and weft) compared to 560 of the unfinished fabric.
Example 3: A wool gabardine with a weight per square meter of 300 g is impregnated with the liquor described below, squeezed off to about 65% liquor pick-up, dried at 1200C and condensed at 130C for 5 minutes.
3 g of the dispersion of an alkyl-alkylene urea, the preparation of which is described below, are stirred well in portions with 5 times the amount of water and added to a mixture of 40 ml of isopropanol and 700 ml of water. Therein 30 g of an aqueous 30% dispersion of a polymer, 80 mol% of which consists of monomer units of the formula
EMI4.1
and 20 mol-o consists of butadiene, stirred in.
The wool fabric treated in this way shows a water absorption value of zo der after finishing
EMI4.2
repellency shows a value of 100 ++ after finishing, which only decreases to 100 after 3 washes as well as after 3 dry cleanings.
The dispersion of the alkyl-alkylene urea is produced according to the following process:
To 200 parts of heptadecyl isocyanate, a mixture of 250 parts of water, 3 parts of potassium carbonate, 40 parts of stearyl alcohol polyglycol ether (20 moles of ethylene oxide per mole of stearyl alcohol) and 28.5 parts of ethyleneimine are slowly added dropwise with thorough stirring. 450 parts of water containing 2 parts of potassium carbonate are then added and the dispersion is homogenized by means of a high-speed stirrer.
The serviceability of the liquor described can be improved if 0.1-50 ml of an approximately 10% acidic, aqueous dispersion of a product prepared as follows is added before the polymer dispersion is added:
In a three-necked flask equipped with a stirrer, reflux condenser and thermometer, 525 g of isobutanol, 35 g of diethanolamine, 90 g of paraformaldehyde and 150 g of a product obtained by heating 1 mol of melamine and 2 mol of heptadecyl isocyanate to 2400C are mixed for 3 hours on the reflux condenser heated, this is then replaced by a descending cooler and the alcohol is distilled off while increasing the temperature to 150-1550C. Continue heating at this temperature until the product is soluble in hot, exigerous acetic acid.
The still liquid product is mixed with the same amount by weight of toluene and an emulsion is formed when it is dissolved in dilute acetic acid.
Instead of toluene or another water-insoluble solvent, the condensation product can also be fused with the same amount by weight of paraffin. In this case, however, the mixed product must be melted at about 70 C before adding the acetic acid, with a hot 3 () 1 / o aqueous solution

Acetic acid is stirred well and diluted in portions with hot water. This emulsion, too, is then added to the liquor before the polymer dispersion is added.
Example 4: A polyamide fabric, the setting of which corresponds approximately to the polyester fabric used in Example 1, is soaked with the liquor described below, squeezed off to a liquor pick-up of about 607 °, dried at 110 ° C. and condensed for 5 minutes at 130 ° C.
The liquor is prepared by adding 0.25 g of 60% acetic acid to 5 g of the below-described dispersion of an alkyl-alkyleneurea, stirring in portions with 5 times the amount of cold water and adding to a mixture of 20 g of isopropanol and 15 g of butanol in 700 ml of water. 35 g of a 30% solution of a chromium coordination complex (prepared according to Example 1 of US Pat. No. 2, 662, 835) and 24 g of urea (as a buffer substance) are stirred into this mixture and the liquor is made up to 1000 ml.
The polyamide fabric treated in this way shows a water absorption of 9% after finishing with an excellent water-repellent effect and excellent oil repellency, which is not impaired even by 3 washes with soap and soda in the washing machine.
The dispersion of the alkyl alkylene urea used is produced according to the following process:
To 200 parts of heptadecyl isocyanate, a mixture of 250 parts of water, 15 parts of an aqueous, concentrated ammonia solution (density 0.990), 45 parts of ricinoleic acid glyceride polyglycol ether (30 moles of ethylene oxide per mole of ricinoleic acid glyceride) and 28.5 parts of ethyleneimine is slowly added dropwise with vigorous stirring.
Then 450 parts of water, mixed with 10 parts of aqueous ammonia solution, are added and the dispersion is homogenized by means of a high-speed stirrer, diluted with a solution of 66 parts of hexadecyl-oxymethylene pyridinium chloride in 134 parts of water and with 25 parts of the subsequently specified solution of a water-insoluble one , condensation product soluble in dilute organic acids, which can be prepared, for example, by the following process:
370 parts of methanol, 69 parts of triethanolamine, 187 parts of paraformaldehyde and 63 parts of melamine are mixed in a three-necked flask with a descending condenser and stirrer, and the temperature is slowly increased with constant stirring.
As soon as the mixture has reached 40 ° C, 225 parts of technical stearic anhydride (acid number about 3-7) are added and the temperature is brought to 1200 ° C within about 2 to 3 hours while distilling off the alcohol. It is left at this temperature until the product is clearly soluble in hot 6% acetic acid, and then stirred with 475 parts of a mixture of one part by volume of tetrachlorethylene and 3 parts by volume of benzene.
