Process for the preparation of water-soluble disazo dyes It has been found that new, water-soluble disazo dyes of the formula (I)
EMI1.1
wherein Di and D2 are residues of a mononuclear or binuclear
Diazo component of the benzene series or residues of a di azo component of the naphthalene series, X is a hydrogen atom or a sulfonic acid group, n and m 0 or
1 and the sum of n and m is 1, can be prepared by mixing 1 mol of a 1-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalenesulfonic acid with 1 mol of the diazo compound of an amine of the general formula (II) 11 (HO3S-O-HC-HC-O2S ) -D2-NH2 (II) where D has the meaning given above and n is the number 0 or 1, initially in an acidic medium, preferably in a strongly acidic medium at pH values of about 0.5 to about 2,
and then with 1 mol of the diazo compound of an amine of the general formula (III) 111 (HO3S-O-H2C-HC-O2S) -D1-NH2 (III) in which D1 has the meaning given above and m is the number 0 or 1, at a pH of about 3 to about 8, preferably of about 5 to about 7, coupling, the diazo components being chosen so that the sum of m and n is 1.
The amines of the general formulas (I) and (II) mentioned for the preparation of the new disazo dyes are, for example, monoamines of the benzene series, such as aminobenzene, 1-amino-2, -3- or -4-methyl-, -ethyl-, -methoxy - or ethoxybenzene, l-amino2-, -3- or -4-chloro-, -nitro- or -acylaminobenzene, l-amino-2,4-, -2,5- or -2,6-dimethylbenzene , l-aminobenzene-3- or -4-carboxylic acid, 1-aminobenzene-2-, -3 or -4-sulfonic acid, l-aminobenzene-2,4- or 2,5-disulfonic acid, 1-amino-4-methoxy- benzene-2-sulfonic acid, and also the sulfuric acid esters of l-amino-benzene-3 or -4-fl-hydroxyethylsulfone, 1-amino-2-methoxy-benzene-4-;
; i-hydroxyäthyIsulfon, 1-amino-2,5-dimethoxy-benzene-4-ss-hydroxyethylsulfone and 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-methyl-benzene-4-ss-hydroxyethylsulfone, also monoamines of diphenyl , Diphenylamine, diphenyl ether, benzophenone or stilbene series, such as 4-amino-l, l'-diphenylamine and its sulfonic acids, 4-amino-l, l'-diphenyl ether and its sulfonic acids, 4-amino-stilben-2, 2'-disulfonic acid, and the sulfuric acid esters of 4-amino-diphenyl-4'-ss-hydroxyethylsulfone and 4-Aki no-2'-nitro-diphenylamine-4'-ss-hydroxyethylsulfone-2-sulfonic acid, monoamines of the naphthalene series such as 1- or 2-amino-naphthalene and their sulfonic acids,
the sulfuric acid esters of 2-amino-naphthyl-6-ss-hydroxy ethylsulfone, l-amino-naphthyl-3, 7-di- (p-hydroxyethylsulfone) and l-amino-naphthyl-4- or -5-ss- hydroxyethyl sulfone.
Examples of 1-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-sulfonic acids are 1-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid, 1-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-4,6-disulfonic acid and preferably 1-amino -8-hydroxy-naphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid into consideration.
The coupling of the 1-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene sulfonic acids in an acidic medium with the diazo compounds of the amines of the general formula (II) mentioned takes place at temperatures from about -50 ° C. to about 400 ° C., preferably from about 0 ° C. to about 25 ° C.
The coupling of the primarily obtained monoazo dye with the diazo compound of an amine of the general formula (III) mentioned takes place at temperatures from about 0 to about 30 C.
The optimum pH and temperature conditions to be used in each case for both coupling reactions must be based on the diazo components used in the individual case.
The disazo dyes obtained can be isolated in the customary manner by salting out or, if appropriate, by spray-drying the preparation mixture.
The new disazo dyes are dark powders that dissolve in water with a blue or blue-green to black color and nitrogen-containing fibers such as wool, silk, leather and polyamide fibers as well as cellulose-containing materials with a fibrous structure such as linen, regenerated cellulose and cotton in blue or blue-green to dye black lightfast and wetfast shades. In addition to high color strength, they have a very good build-up capacity and are particularly suitable as reactive dyes for dyeing and printing cotton and regenerated cellulose. To color such materials, the dyes are used by printing or dyeing processes in conjunction with a treatment with an acid-binding agent such as sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate.
Processes of this type are known from recent literature (cf. Melliand Textilberich tv 1959, 539 and 1965, 286).
Compared to the structurally closest disazo dye of the formula
EMI2.1
which is described in German Patent 965 902. the dyes obtainable according to the process are distinguished by the fact that they do not cause any hardening of the handle of the cellulose fiber materials dyed with them.
Furthermore, the new dyes are generally distinguished from the aforementioned known dyes by better definition of the contours of the print on cellulose materials.
example 1
13.8 parts by weight of 4-nitro-1-aminobenzo1 are suspended in 500 parts by weight of water and, after the addition of 40 parts by weight of 18.50% hydrochloric acid, diazotized at 0 ° C. with 20 parts by volume of 5N sodium nitrite solution. The diazo solution prepared in this way is added to a suspension of 38.4 parts by weight of 1-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid (83.20%) in 200 parts by weight of water, the pH of which is adjusted to 0.5% with hydrochloric acid 1 was made.
When the coupling is complete, the pH is adjusted to 4 by adding crystallized sodium acetate and the mixture of 31.8 parts by weight of 1-amino-4-β-hydroxyethyl sulfonic acid ester (88.4%), 250 parts by weight of water and 40 parts by weight of 18 are added , 50% hydrochloric acid and 20 parts by volume of 5N sodium nitrite solution prepared diazo suspension. The pH value 4 is maintained during the coupling by adding saturated sodium acetate solution. The coupling is complete after 4 to 6 hours. The disazo dye formed is salted out with 10% sodium chloride (based on the volume of the solution), filtered off, washed with 100% sodium chloride solution and dried at 50 to 60 ° C. in vacuo.
A blue-black powder is obtained which dissolves in water with a blue color. The new dye in the form of the free acid of the formula
EMI2.2
corresponds, produces a deep black with very good light and wet fastness properties on cotton in the presence of sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydroxide. The printed fabric shows no hardening of the handle.
A dye with similar properties is obtained if instead of 38.4 parts by weight of l-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid (83.20 per cent) 35.2 g of l-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-4,6 -disulfonic acid (90.6 oig) can be used. The dye turns black on cotton.
Example 2
31.8 parts by weight of 1-amino-4-β-hydroxyethylsulfonic acid ester (88.4%) are suspended in 250 parts by weight of water and, after the addition of 40 parts by weight of 18.50% hydrochloric acid, with 20 parts by volume of 5N sodium nitrite solution at 0 ° C diazotized. The diazo suspension prepared in this way is added to a suspension of 38.4 parts by weight of 1-amino-8-hydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid (83.20%) in 200 parts by weight of water, the pH of which is about 0.5 and maintains the pH value between 0.5 and 1 by adding 2N sodium acetate solution.
When the coupling has ended, 10 ovo sodium chloride (based on the volume of the solution) is added, the red monoazo dye is filtered off and it is washed with 100% above sodium chloride solution.
To prepare the disazo dye, a diazo suspension is prepared from 12.6 parts by weight of 4-methoxy-1-aminobenzene (97.50%), 250 parts by weight of water, 40 parts by weight of 18.50 /% hydrochloric acid and 20 parts by volume of 5N sodium nitrite solution, and with it combined with the monoazo dye suspended in 300 parts by weight of water. The pH of the coupling mixture is then adjusted to 7 by adding a saturated sodium bicarbonate solution and maintained during the coupling.
The disazo dye formed is salted out by adding 20% sodium chloride (based on the volume of the solution), filtered off and dried at 50 to 60 ° C. in vacuo.
The dye in the free acid form of the formula
EMI3.1
corresponds to, represents a blue-black powder, which dissolves in water with a blue color and produces greenish blue to black prints and colors of very good light and wet fastness on cellulose fibers in the presence of sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydroxide. The fabric printed in this way does not show any hardening of the grip.
The table below contains further disazo dyes which can be obtained according to the information in the preceding examples.
In the table they are represented by the azo component (column I), by the diazo component D2-NH2 of the monoazo dye (column II), by the diazo component D1-NH2 of the disazo dye (column III), and by the shade of the dyeings and prints on cotton ( Column IV). The fabrics dyed or printed with the dyes listed in the table below also show no hardening of the handle.
