Since the azo compounds according to the invention are pigments, groups which make water soluble, in particular acidic groups which make water soluble, such as sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid groups, are of course excluded.
The azo dyestuff carboxylic acids from which the acid halides of the formula (3) are prepared are obtained when the diazo compound of an amine of the formula Rt-NH2 is substituted with a 2,3-hydroxynaphthoic acid optionally substituted by a halogen, alkoxy or cyano group formula
EMI2.1
clutch.
The obtained azo dye carboxylic acids are treated with agents capable of converting carboxylic acids into their halides, e.g. B. chlorides or bromides, so in particular with phosphorus halides, such as phosphorus pentabromide or phosphorus trichloride or pentachloride, phosphorus oxyhalides and preferably with thionyl chloride.
Treatment with such acid-halogenating agents is expediently carried out in inert organic solvents such as dimethylformamide, chlorobenzenes, e.g. B. mono- or dichlorobenzene, toluene, xylene or nitrobenzene carried out, with the last 5 optionally with the addition of dimethylformamide.
When preparing the carboxylic acid halides, it is generally expedient to first dry the azo compounds prepared in an aqueous medium or to free them azeotropically from water by boiling in an organic solvent. This azeotropic drying can, if desired, be carried out immediately before the treatment with the acid-halogenating agents.
The azo dyestuff carboxylic acid chlorides obtained are then treated with an amino-acridone, preferably one of the formula
EMI2.2
condensed. The amino group in formula (6) can be in the 1-, 3-, 4-, but preferably in the 2-position.
Examples of substituted amino-acridones are 2-methyl-4-amino-acridone, 3-amino-6-chloro-acridone, 1-amino-4-methyl-acridone and 2-amino-7-methoxy-acridone and the
Called 2-amino-7-ethoxy-acridone.
The condensation between the carboxylic acid chlorides of the type mentioned at the beginning and the amino-acridone is expediently carried out in an anhydrous medium. Under this condition, it generally takes place surprisingly easily even at temperatures which are in the boiling range of normal organic solvents, such as toluene, monochlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene, trichlorobenzene, nitrobenzene and the like. To accelerate the reaction, it is generally advisable to use an acid-binding agent, such as anhydrous sodium acetate or pyridine. The dyes obtained are e.g. T. crystalline and z. T. amorphous and are mostly obtained in a very good yield and pure state. It is advisable to first remove the acid chlorides obtained from the carboxylic acids.
In some cases, however, separation of the acid chlorides can be dispensed with without damage, and the condensation can take place immediately after the preparation of the carboxylic acid chlorides.
Thanks to their favorable properties, the pigments obtainable according to the process can be used for a wide variety of pigment applications, e.g. B in finely divided form for dyeing rayon and viscose or cellulose ethers and esters or superpolyamides or super-polyurethanes or polyesters in the spinning mass, as well as for the production of colored lacquers or lacquer formers, solutions or products made from acetyl cellulose, nitrocellulose, natural resins or synthetic resins, such as Polymerization resins or condensation resins, e.g. B. aminoplasts, alkyd resins, phenoplasts, polyolefins, such as polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyacrylonitrile, rubber, casein, silicone and silicone resins. They can also be used advantageously in the production of colored pencils, cosmetic preparations or laminating plates.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, parts are parts by weight, percentages are percentages by weight, and temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.

2,4,5-trichlorobenzene with 2,3-hydroxynaphthoic acid is obtained in 200 parts by volume of chlorobenzene with 2.4 parts by volume of dimethylformamide and 4.3 parts by volume of thionyl chloride to 55 to 600 parts over 12 hours heated. The color acid chloride obtained in needles is filtered off after cooling, washed with a little benzene and dried in vacuo at 60-70. 15.85 parts of the chloride are obtained (93% of theory).
3.92 parts of this chloride are heated with 1.55 parts of 2-aminoacridone in 150 parts by volume of o-dichlorobenzene to 130 to 1400 for 12 hours. After this time, the pigment formed is filtered off while hot, washed with hot o-dichlorobenzene, then with dimethylformamide, methanol and water and dried at 60 to 700 in vacuo. 4.1 parts (80% of theory) of a brown powder are obtained.
