The azo dye carboxylic acids obtained are treated with agents which are capable. Carboxylic acids into their halides, e.g. B. chlorides or bromides, so in particular with phosphorus halides, such as phosphorus pentabromide or phosphorus pentachloride or trichloride, phosphorus oxyhalides and preferably with thionyl chloride.
Treatment with such acid-halogenating agents is expediently in inert organic solvents such as dimethylformamide, chlorobenzene z. B. mono- or dichlorobenzene, toluene, xylene or nitrobenzene carried out, with the last 5 optionally with the addition of dimethylformamide. When preparing the carboxylic acid halides, it is generally expedient to first dry the azo compounds prepared in an aqueous medium or to free them azeotropically from water by boiling in an organic solvent. This azeotropic drying can, if desired, be carried out immediately before the treatment with the acid-halogenating agents.
The azo dye carboxylic acid chlorides obtained are condensed with aminobenzothiazolones, such as 5-amino benzothiazolone, but in particular with aminobenzoxazolones, for example with: 5-aminobenzoxazolone, 6-aminobenzoxazolone, 5-amino-7-benzoxazolone, 5-amino-7-bromo-benzoxazolone -Amino-7-methyl-benzoxazolone, 5-amino-7-methoxy-benzoxazolone, 6-amino-benzoxazolone, 6-amino-6-chlorobensoxazolone, 6-amino-5-methyl-benzoxazolone.
These heterocyclic amines are obtained by known processes, for example by condensation of a 1-amino-2-hydroxynitrobenzene with phosgene in an aqueous medium and reduction of the nitrobenzoxazolone thus obtained, or in the case of a 6-amino-benzoxazolone, by phosgenation of a 1-amino-2 -phenols then by nitrating the benzoxazolone thus obtained and reducing the 6-nitrobenzoxazolone thus obtained.
The condensation between the carboxylic acid halides of the type mentioned at the outset and the amines is expediently carried out in an anhydrous medium. Under this condition, it generally takes place surprisingly easily even at temperatures which are in the boiling range of normal organic solvents such as toluene, monochlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene, trichlorobenzene, nitrobenzene and the like. To accelerate the reaction, it is generally advisable to use an acid-binding agent such as anhydrous sodium acetate or pyridine. The dyes obtained are e.g. T. crystalline and z. T. amorphous and are mostly obtained in a very good yield and pure state. It is advisable to first remove the acid chlorides obtained from the carboxylic acids.
In some cases, however, separation of the acid chlorides can be dispensed with without damage and condensation takes place immediately after the production of the carboxylic acid chlorides.
The new dyes are valuable pigments which can be used for a wide variety of pigment applications, e.g. B. in finely divided form for dyeing rayon and rayon or
Cellulose ethers and esters or of super polyamides or super polyurethanes or polyesters in the spinning mass, as well as for the production of colored lacquers or lacquer formers, solutions or products made of acetyl cellulose, nitrocellulose, natural resins or synthetic resins, such as polymerization resins or condensation resins, z. B. aminoplasts, alkyd resins, phenoplasts, polyolefins, such as polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyacrylonitrile, rubber,
Casein, silicone and silicone resins. They can also be used advantageously in the production of colored pencils, cosmetic preparations or laminating plates.
In German patents 1,215,837,
1,216,460 and 1,217,008 are azo dyes described which differ from those according to the invention in that they have a ring instead of the oxazolone ring
Imidazole ring included. These known pigments fall in the synthesis in a very hard, difficult to divide ver form and can only be used for application after suitable conditioning.
Even in a conditioned form, they show unfavorable rheological behavior. In contrast, the pigments according to the invention are obtained directly during the synthesis in a very soft, finely crystalline form, so that they can be used for all mass colorations without special aftertreatment. Compared to the pigments described in PB report 27 858, p. 6351, which have a 2,3-hydroxynaphthoic acid ß-anthraquinoyl amide radical as the coupling component, the dyes according to the invention have the advantage of significantly better migration fastness.
In the following example, unless otherwise specified, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight, and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
example 1
36.5 parts of the dye obtained by coupling diazotized 2,5-dichloroaniline with 2,3-hydroxynaphthoic acid are heated to 135 to 145 with 390 parts of o-dichlorobenzene, 16.5 parts of thionyl chloride and 2 parts of dimethylformamide with stirring for 2 hours, whereby everything goes into solution. After the reaction mixture has cooled, the uniformly crystalline azo dye monocarboxylic acid chloride is isolated by filtration and washed with 400 parts of benzene and then with 200 parts of petroleum ether. After drying at 50 in vacuo, 29.5 parts of a red crystal powder are obtained.
2.3 parts of the azo dye carboxylic acid chloride thus obtained are stirred in 70 parts of dichlorobenzene and heated to 70 to 800 parts. A warm solution of 1.0 part of 5-aminobenzoxazolone in 10 parts of dimethylformamide and 200 parts of dichlorobenzene is then added and the mixture is heated to 140 to 145 "for 12 hours. The sparingly soluble pigment which precipitates out in fine crystalline form is filtered off while hot and with washed with hot o-dichlorobenzene until the filtrate runs off clear, then washed with cold methanol and finally with hot water.
After drying at 80 "in vacuo, 2.0 parts of a soft-grained powder are obtained which is practically insoluble in the usual solvents and which colors the polyvinyl chloride film and lacquers in red shades of excellent light, migration and lacquer fastness.
