Device for marking the lengths to be cut for a portable chainsaw Several devices are already known, used in conjunction with portable chainsaws, and allowing the rapid marking of the lengths to be cut on the logs.
Some constructions make use of colored marking devices attached to an arm at the back of the body of the chainsaw, and allowing, by adjusting the free end of the blade to the edge of the section which has just been sawn, to '' apply a colored mark to the place of the next section. Apart from its lack of precision, this device requires the machine to be turned in the opposite direction to that of the logical progress of the work.
Other solutions make use of measuring tapes or cables, the free end of which is hooked to the edge of the section which has just been sawn, and which, by transporting the portable chainsaw, enable it to be restarted when where the desired length appears on the tape measure. These devices, the striking advantage of which is minimal bulk, do not allow precise measurement either because of the lack of rigidity of the tape or cable.
Finally, solutions are known which make use of a rigid measuring arm, fixed to the body of the chainsaw by an articulation allowing movement of the arm in a plane perpendicular to the main axis of the saw. This device remaining hooked up throughout the sawing opera tion has the drawback of hindering work, and its position relative to the body of the chainsaw makes it extremely bulky when it comes to moving among branches.
The present invention relates to a device for marking the lengths to be cut on logs for a portable chainsaw comprising a rigid rod provided with a stop at its free end, and removably fixed to the body of the chainsaw, with the aim of remedying to these drawbacks. This device is characterized by the fact that the rod forms an acute angle with the saw of the chainsaw so as to allow, by pressing the stop on the previously cut section of the section to mark by a quasi-tangential saw cut against said log l ' place of the next cut.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the present invention. Fig. 1 is a side view of a portable chainsaw.
Fig. 2 is a top view of the same portable cutting section, provided with the device of this embodiment.
Figs. 3 and 4 are, respectively, a side view and a top view of the part providing the support of the device against the chainsaw.
Fig. 5 shows in detail the two ends of the positive device.
Fig. 6, finally, shows the device provided with a pointed extension, for its use independently of the chainsaw.
In fig. 1 and 2, 1 designates the body of the chainsaw itself, containing in particular the drive motor of the chain saw. This drive takes place through the intermediary of a pinion 2, on which the cutting saw 3 engages, itself carrying the cutting elements, not shown here. The chain is guided by the blade 4, itself fixed to the body of the chainsaw by means of two bolts 5 and 6. The operator carries the chainsaw with his left hand, by the handle 7, and the chain saw. steers with his right hand, by the handle 8. With his right hand also, he actuates the throttle 9, which allows him to vary the speed and power of the neck.
In fig. 2, the chainsaw is provided with the device which mainly comprises a measuring arm 10, fixed to the body of the chainsaw by its support 11. The log to be cut is represented by 13, 131 being the section which has just been cut, and 132 a point on the surface of the log, through which the next cutting section will pass.
In fig. 3 and 4, the support 11 of the device is made of a thick V-shaped sheet metal, the wings of which, 111, have two holes, 111 and 113, allowing it to be fixed against the body of the device. chainsaw 1, thanks to bolts 5 and 6. On the other wing 114, a metal rod 115, of square section, is fixed by welding, forming with the wing 111, an acute angle a. This rod 115 has a certain number of engraved lines 116, making it possible to adjust the position of a rigid rod 10 during its fixing, so as to obtain usual cutting lengths.
The metal rod 10 is shown in FIG. 5. It consists essentially of a tubular section of square section, 101, at one end of which is welded a nut 102, allowing a wing screw 103 to be screwed therein, intended to ensure the locking of the rod 10 on the support 11. At the other end, is welded perpendicularly a stop formed by a rod 104, tapering off, and terminated at its free end by a gouge 105. A bearing plate 106 is welded against the body of the rod 104.
The device is used as follows (see fig. 2): when the first section 131 is cut, the operator, practically without moving, turns his machine about a quarter of a turn, and comes to the end. 'press against the edge of section 131, by elements 105 and 106 (see fig. 5). While maintaining this support, he applies the free end 31 of the saw against the side of the log, and simultaneously gives the motor a gas stroke with his right hand, which has the effect of producing on the side of the log. a slight notch 132.
The rounded end of this notch will serve as a reference point for the next section, which the operator can now perform by simply moving one or two steps in the direction of progress of the work, and by replacing his machine perpendicular to the axis of the ball.
