when organic dyes of the formula F (Z-halogen) "il with N-ethionylamino-arylamines or N-isethionylamino-arylamines
EMI0001.0019
condensed at temperatures from -5 to -f-75 ° C. and esterified the hydroxyl groups of the ogr-oxalkylsulfone radicals with sulfuric acid or its salts in the dyes containing isethionylamino groups.
The aryl radical designated A in the amines of the formulas (III) and (IV) is, for example, a radical from the benzene, naphthalene, diphenyl, diphenylamine, diphenylsulfone, stilbene, diphenyl ether or diphenyl thioether series and can contain any substituents, for example alkyl groups such as methyl, halogen atoms,
such as chlorine or bromine, acylamino groups such as acetylamino, alkoxy groups such as methoxy, or oxy, carboxylic acid or sulfonic acid groups.
The arylamines of the formulas (III) and (IV) used as starting materials can be prepared by reacting carbyl sulfate with nitroarylamines and then catalytically reducing the corresponding nitroaromatic compounds containing N-ethionylamino or N-isethionylamino groups as substituents.
The condensation of organic dyes of the formula (1I) with the amines of the specified composition is advantageously carried out in an aqueous or non-aqueous medium and in the presence of acid-binding agents, preferably at temperatures between 10 and 60 ° C. at pH values between about 4 and 9 . The reaction can, if appropriate, be carried out in the presence of organic solvents, such as acetone, methylene chloride or ethylene chloride, for example.
Acid-binding agents can be either the N-ethionylamino or N-isethionylaminoarylamine or nitrogen-containing tertiary organic bases such as pyridine and picoline or, more advantageously, inorganic compounds such as sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate or sodium acetate .
The condensation can also be carried out in an anhydrous organic solvent such as pyridine, dimethylformamide, N-methylacetamide or phosphoric acid tris-dimethylamide in the presence or absence of diluents such as methylene chloride, acetone or methanol.
The compounds produced by the process of the invention by reacting organic dyes of the formula (1I) with N-isethionylamino-arylamines can then be converted into dyes containing N-ethionylamino groups by removing the hydroxyl groups of the ss-oxyalkyl-sulfone acid residues esterified with sulfuric acid. The esterification of these hydroxyl groups can also be carried out by reaction with acidic salts, such as alkali metal salts with chlorosulfonic acid.
The compounds of the formula II which are used as starting materials can belong to any classes of dye. For the method of the present invention, e.g. B. dyes of the diphenylmethane, triphenylmethane, naphthoquinone, indigo, thioindigo, oxazine, nitro, acridone, phenazine and especially the azo,
Anthraquinone and phthalocyanine series into consideration.
The organic dyes of the formula II contain reactive halogen atoms which are bonded to an aromatic nucleus of the dye molecule in the form of sulfonic acid halide, carboxylic acid halide or -NH-triazine halide groups.
Examples of dyes that contain active halogen atoms in the form of sulfonic acid halide groups include the following compounds: azobenzene-disulfonic acid chloride, 4- (2'-methyl-4'-isoeyano-phenylazo) -benzenesulfochloride or the sulfochlorides of, for example, from 1 -Oxynaphtha lin-4-sulfonic acid by coupling with diazo compounds, such as diazotized 1-methyl-4-amino-3-sulfonic acid amide,
available dyes, also sulfofluorides of azo dyes (German Patent No. 653 025, Belgian Patent No. 578 517), such as that by diazotization of 1-aminobenzene-3-sulfonic acid fluoride and coupling with 1-oxy-8-benzoylamino naphthalene -3,6-disulfonic acid available azo dye, also the polysulfochloride of dioxazine,
metal-free phthalocyanine or metal-containing phthalocyanines. The sulfochlorides obtainable from monoarylaminoanthraquinones and diarylaminoanthraquinones by reaction with chlorosulfonic acid should also be mentioned.
Such sulfochlorides are derived, for example, from 1-amino-4-anilinoanthraquinone, 1-amino-2-methyl-4-anilinoanthraquinone, 1-amino-4-anilinoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid, 1,4-dianilinoanthraquinone, 1,4-diteluidino anthraquinone, 1,4-di-p-phenylanilinoanthraquinone, 1,4-di-2'-naphthylaminoanthraquinone or 1,5-di-p-phenylanilinoanthraquinone.
The following compounds are cited as examples of dyes which contain reactive halogen atoms in the form of carboxylic acid halide groups: azobenzene-dicarboxylic acid chloride, 4,4'-diphenylazobenzene-4 ", 4" '- dicarboxylic acid chloride, 1,5-diaminoanthraquinone 2,6-dicarboxylic acid chloride, 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone-2,3-dicarboxylic acid chloride, 1-amino-4-nitroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride, 1-amino-4-bromoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride, 1-amino-4- (phenylamino -2'-carboxylic acid chloride)
- anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid, 1-phenylaminoanthraquinone-2,4'-dicarboxylic acid chloride, 1-amino-4- (phenylamino-3'-carboxylic acid chloride) - anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid and 1-amino-4-phenylamino -anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride. The condensation of organic dyes containing several sulfonic acid halide or carboxylic acid halide groups with the amines of the specified composition can also be carried out in such a way that
that less amine is used than the amount corresponding to the acid halide groups. For example, in a polysulfochloride of an organic dye, such as phthalocyanine tetrasulfochloride, only two or three sulfonic acid chloride groups can be reacted with the amines of the formula III or IV.
The remaining sulfonic acid chloride groups are then saponified to sulfonic acid groups, so that, optionally after esterification with sulfuric acid, dyes are obtained which contain both N-ethyionylamino groups and sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid groups.
In addition, for the implementation of N-ethionylamino-aryiamines or N-isethionylamino-arylamines with reactive halogen atoms, the dyes also include those which contain the reactive halogen atom on a triazine nucleus. Such starting materials suitable for the present process can be according to known ones Process by partial condensation of cyanuric chloride or 2,4-dichloro-6-methoxy-1,3,5-triazine with dyes containing amino groups.
The following compounds can be cited as examples of N-ethionylamino-arylamines and N-isethionylaminoarylamines: 4-N-ethionylamino-1-aminobenzene, 4-N-isethionylamino-1-aminobenzene, 3- (N-methyl-N-ethionylamino ) -1-aminobenzene, 3- (N-methyl-N-isethionylamino) -1-aminobenzene, 3- (N-methyl-N-ethionylamino) -4-methoxy-1-aminobenzene, 3- (N-butyl-N -äthionylamino) -1-aminobenzene, 1-methyl-4-amino-2-N-ethionylaminobenzene, 4-N-Äthionylamino-1-aminobenzene-2-sulfonic acid,

or the arylamines obtainable by condensation of one or more Äthionylamino- or Isäthionylaminogruppen the aromatic amines with nitrobenzene sulfonic acid chlorides or nitrobenzoyl chlorides and subsequent reduction, such as.
B. the compounds of the composition
EMI0003.0001
also the azo dyes obtainable by coupling diazotized N-ethionylamino- or N-isethionylamino-arylamines with compounds containing amino groups. For example, the following azo components can be used:
2-methoxy-5-methyl-1-aminobenzene, 1-aminonaphthalene, 2-amino-8-oxynaphthalene-6-sulfonic acid, 2-amino-5-oxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid, 1-amino-8-oxynaphthalene-3, 6-disulfonic acid or 1- (aminophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone.
The azo components can also contain one or more ethionylamino or isethionylamino groups, such as, for example, (- (N-methyl-N-ethionylamino) methyl-3-aminobenzene).
The dyes obtainable by the process of the invention are obtained from neutral or weakly acidic solution by concentration and / or from separating by adding a precipitating agent, such as solid or dissolved in water sodium or potassium chloride, filtering and washing. In order to avoid decomposition of the dyes, the aqueous dye pastes are dried at a low temperature, preferably at 40-50 ° C., if appropriate under reduced pressure.
The process products are valuable water-soluble dyes. They are suitable for dyeing and printing a wide variety of materials, such as wool, silk, polyamides or polyurethanes, according to the usual dyeing processes, for example from neutral to slightly acidic liquor in the presence of ammonium acetate. The new dyes are particularly suitable for dyeing and printing cellulosic materials such as linen, regenerated cellulose and, above all, cotton.
The application to the cellulose fibers takes place by treating the material with an aqueous solution of the dye at normal or elevated temperature in the presence of an acid-binding agent such as sodium hydroxide, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate or trisodium phosphate, or with a printing paste with the addition of an acid-binding agent, the Treatment with the acid-binding agent can take place before, during or after the application of the dye, and then heating or steaming.
