Container for filling liquids or flowable substances
It is already well known to manufacture containers for milk or other beverages from paper, synthetic resins or other materials and to use them instead of glass bottles.
A tetrahedron is mentioned as an example of these well-known containers. Heretofore, thin and soft synthetic resins or paper have been used for this type of container for the sake of economy, so that they are flexible as a whole and are not reliable as beverage containers; it cannot therefore be said that containers of this type serve their purpose well. On the other hand, when hard grades of synthetic resins are used, such materials are undesirable for containers of consumer goods because they are too expensive.
Bottle-like containers made of synthetic resins are also seen on the market. This does not matter when it comes to containers for relatively small quantities; but as soon as a capacity for larger quantities is required, a larger wall thickness must be used in view of the load resistance, which, however, as mentioned above, makes such a container unsuitable in terms of price and material expenditure.
Further, there has heretofore been a container of the following type: A cover plate made of a plate-shaped synthetic resin is attached to a flange made of synthetic resin on the top of the container and is hinged to the flange of the container.
If, however, such a shaped container with a larger capacity is produced, not only do the dimensions of the container have to be increased, but also its wall thickness must be increased to ensure the strength of the container, which also requires a corresponding enlargement of the cover plate. Thus, a greater thickness of the cover plate is required to achieve the required strength. Therefore, such a container is disadvantageous in terms of the cost of materials.
The aim of the present invention is to overcome the above-mentioned disadvantages and to provide a novel container which can be made of relatively thin material for a required capacity and which can also be mass-produced with a relatively high strength.
The invention thus relates to a container for filling liquids and flowable substances, as well as a method for producing the container without producing waste material.
The characteristic features of the invention emerge from the patent claims, while details of possible embodiments can be found in the following description of exemplary embodiments of the invention and the associated drawings.
1 is an overall perspective view of a first embodiment of the container according to the invention.
2a and 2b are perspective views of the separated housing parts of the container according to FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is an overall perspective view of a second embodiment of the container according to the invention.
4a and 4b are perspective views of the separated housing parts of the container according to FIG. 3, the lower part being shown partially in section.
Fig. 5 is an overall perspective view of the same container, but in which the filler neck has been closed after the contents have been poured into the container.
FIG. 6 shows partly in elevation and partly in vertical section how a container according to FIG. 3 can be placed on another container of this type.
FIG. 7 schematically illustrates a possible embodiment of the method according to the invention for producing the containers according to this invention, the locations of each production phase being shown by dot-dash rectangles.
Figures 8 to 12 show different phases of manufacture, with Figures 8a to 10a showing the relationship between the forming tools and the materials, while Figures 8b to 10b show the workpieces after they have been formed.
First, the embodiment of the container shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 will be explained. The container has a trough-shaped upper housing part 1 and a likewise trough-shaped lower housing part 5. Both parts 1 and 5 are each provided with an outwardly protruding flange 4 or 6, which runs along the edge of the open side of the relevant housing part. A filling section 2 and a pouring section 3 are provided on the upper housing part 1. In the embodiment shown, the filling section 2 protrudes from the container as a nozzle, while the pouring section 3 does not particularly protrude. However, there are no significant difficulties in either designing both parts 2 and 3 protruding from the housing or in such a way that this is not the case with either of the parts 2 and 3.
The pouring part 3 is closed by a part 7. that this lock can be opened.
According to the illustration, a tab 8 is attached to the part 7 to be opened in such a way that this part 7 can be torn away by means of the tab 8.
The upper and lower housing parts 1 and 5 are joined together along their flanges 4 and 6 so as to form the container as shown in FIG.
After the contents have been filled through the filler neck 2, the filler neck 2 can be closed in a suitable manner, and if the contents are to be emptied, the spout 3 can be opened by tearing away the part 7 by means of the flap 8.
In the example described, the upper and lower housing parts 1 and 5 have a rectangular plan; but also a cylindrical or other shape does not present any difficulties if both flanges are of the same shape.
The explanation of the second exemplary embodiment, which is shown in FIGS. 3 to 6, now follows.
According to FIGS. 3 and 4a, the filler neck 2 'and the pouring part 3' with the part 7 'to be opened are again attached to the upper surface of the upper housing part 1'. The grip tab 8 'is connected to the openable part 7', and the flange 4 'is formed along the edge on the open side of the housing part 1'.
In Fig. 4b it can be seen that along the edge on the open side of the lower housing part 5 'there is a flange 6' of the same shape as the flange 4 'of the upper housing part 1' and that the bottom of the housing part 5 'is also an indentation 9, which is large enough to accommodate the filler neck 2 'of another, identically designed container can. Since in this embodiment the pouring part 3 'also protrudes from the top of the housing part 1', a further indentation 10 is formed on the bottom surface of the lower housing part 5 'in order to be able to accommodate this pouring part of a second, identical container.
However, if the pouring part 3 'is not designed to protrude, the indentation 10 can be omitted.
The container is formed by joining the flanges 4 'and 6' of the upper and lower housing parts 1 'and 5' as shown in FIG.
After filling the contents through the filler neck 2 ', it can be closed by compressing and sealing the end edge 2 ", as shown in FIG. 5. To pour out the contents, the pouring section 3' can be opened by tearing away the part 7 'by means of the flap will.
When two or more of the containers described are placed on top of one another, the filler neck of the container 2 'below is inserted into the indentation 9 in the bottom of the container above, as shown in FIG. Likewise, the spout 3 'of the container below enters the indentation 10 of the container above. This allows the containers to be stacked on top of one another in a stable manner and without wasting space.
In the second embodiment, too, the shape of the upper and lower housing parts is not limited to the shape shown in the present drawings, and it is, for. B. a cylindrical shape is also possible, provided that the flanges 4 'and 6' are shaped to match.
When the spout 3 'on the upper housing part
1 'is outstandingly shaped, the bottom surface of the lower housing part 5' does not necessarily have to have two separate indentations 9 and 10, but a correspondingly enlarged indentation which can accommodate both the filler neck 2 'and the pouring part 3' is sufficient.
If synthetic resins are used as the material for the housing parts in the above-mentioned embodiments, z. B. the lower housing part made of an opaque material and the upper housing part made of a transparent material. This enables a good appearance, since the beverage contained in the container is clearly visible from the outside and the impression of cleanliness is given. Inscriptions or symbols can then be attached to the container if this is desired.
The method according to the invention for producing the containers described above will now be explained, for example, with reference to FIG. 7 and the following figures.
In FIGS. 8 to 12, the configuration of the container to be produced is the same as in the second embodiment described above. But even if the design of the container is different, e.g. B. those of the first embodiment, the products can be made by the same process. It should also be mentioned here that thermoplastic resins in the form of strip material are used in the following process example, but the same process can easily be used even if other qualities are used.
In FIG. 7, M1 and M are rolled up raw material strips which are introduced into the device at intervals and at the same running speed by means of pairs of rollers R1, R1 and Ro, R- in the same direction S1 and S-.
The first processing step of the tape M1 takes place at the point designated by I, as shown in detail in FIG. 8, and the second processing step at the point designated by II, as shown in FIG. The tape M is processed by a third processing which takes place at the position indicated by III shown in FIG. The fourth operation then takes place on the converging belts M1 and M2 at the point marked IV, as shown in FIG.
The fifth processing is performed at the point indicated by V as shown in FIG.
According to FIG. 8a, a negative upper compression mold Pol ′ and a positive lower compression mold P1 are arranged opposite one another on both sides of the belt M1 at the processing point I in such a way that they can move in opposite directions to and from the belt in the direction of the arrows shown. Bumps N and Q are on the upper surface of the positive die R1, while corresponding recesses N 'and Q' are formed on the negative die P1.
As can be seen in FIG. 8b, the flange 4 'is formed from a part of the belt M1 by the interaction of the two press molds, and the upper housing part 1' with the filler neck 2 'and the pouring part 3' is on the side facing away from the other belt M2 pressed out of the plane of the belt M1.
If during the process described it should be difficult to simultaneously punch out the opening in the filler neck 2 'and to prepare the part 7' of the spout 3 'for later tearing away, this can be done before the third processing step, which is described below.
Depending on the type of connection of the flap handle 8 'with the pouring part, it may be possible to dispense with specially preparing the part 7' on the pouring part 3 'for later opening, since an opening for pouring out when the flap handle 8' is torn away from itself arises.
As is now shown in FIG. 9a, a carrier device T and a heated piston S are arranged movably in the direction of the arrows drawn in at the processing point II. An anvil U is attached to the carrier device T to support the opening part 7 'of the pouring part 3' of the housing part 1 'from the inside thereof. While the anvil U carries the part 7 ', the heated piston S is lowered, the grip tab 8' being welded to the part 7 'of the spout 3'.
(This is in the case that both the tape M1 and the grip tab are made of thermoplastic resin.)
The opening part 7 'of the pouring part 3' treated in this way, which was formed on the upper housing part 1 ', is shown in FIG. 9b, and allows the pouring part 3' to be opened by simply tearing away the tab 8 '.
At the processing point III, as shown in FIG. 10a, a positive compression mold V and a corresponding negative compression mold W are arranged so as to be movable in the direction of the arrows towards or away from the belt M2.
As a result, the housing part 5 'can be formed with the flange 6', which has the same shape as the flange 4 'of the housing part 1' on the opposite band M1. The bulging of the housing part 5 'by means of the compression molds V and W takes place on the side of the belt M2 facing away from the belt M1, as can be seen in FIG. 10a. At the bottom of the negative mold W there are two elevations I and J, while the positive mold V has two corresponding recesses K and L.
By means of the elevations I and J, the indentations 9 and 10 are formed at the same time on the bottom of the produced housing part 5 ', which are intended to later receive the filler neck 2' and the pouring part 3 'of another, identically designed container when these containers are stacked on top of one another.
After the processing operations described above have been carried out, the two raw material bands run together into the processing point IV, which is shown in FIG. Here, the two flanges 4 'and 6' of the upper and lower housing parts 1 'and 5' are precisely fitted together and welded to one another by heating devices E and F which are movable in the direction of the arrow.
Then, as shown in FIG. 12, the two joined strips M1 and M2 are cut through at the processing point V by a cutting tool 0, the flanges 4 'and 6' remaining at the edge of the housing parts 1 'and 5', and the desired Received container.
It is also possible to configure the heating devices in such a way that the cutting process takes place simultaneously with the heating process for joining the flanges 4 'and 6' together, so that the above-mentioned separate cutting process is unnecessary.
The pouring of the liquid can take place after the end of the process shown at the processing point V (namely immediately after the completion of the container), followed by the closure of the filler neck 2 '. There is also no problem if, depending on the circumstances, the sequence of operations is changed, e.g. B. the filling of the liquid and the closing of the filler neck can be carried out before reaching the processing point V and the cutting takes place afterwards at the point V.
The described method for producing the containers is extremely efficient, especially when the upper and lower housing parts are each formed in several parallel rows from the correspondingly wider raw material strips. The yield is further increased if the width of the raw material strips M1 and M2 is selected correctly in consideration of the flange width of the flanges to be formed on the housing parts, whereby any material waste can be avoided. Since the filling process can also take place simultaneously on several parallel rows of containers, it is also possible to increase the filling capacity.
The containers produced have the advantage that, compared to their capacity, they can be made of relatively thin material without sacrificing strength. This makes the containers relatively light and cheap. The cost price can be further reduced by the described rational and waste-free manufacturing process. Another advantage of the container is that it is easy to fill and that it can be stacked in a stable and space-saving manner.
