Method for Sealing Wooden Floors The invention relates to a method for sealing wooden floors using lacquers obtained by mixing polyols and diisocyanates which, with polyaddition between polyol and diisocyanate, form a film.
Paints of this type are available on the market under the registered trademark DD-Lack. The abbreviation DD means Desmodur desmophene. In order to achieve the layer thickness required for sealing, DD lacquers are applied several times in layers of around 100 g / ml '. This requires a considerable amount of work and is also very time-consuming, since intermediate drying times of a few hours have to be waited for.
In order to achieve a greater thickness in a single operation, it would be conceivable to increase the concentration of the paint, i. H. adjust the solid matter higher. However, this is not possible with DD varnishes, since a high concentration of the varnish has the disadvantage that the air in the pores of the wood, which pushes upwards during the drying process, inevitably causes blistering in the varnish.
It is also not possible to apply thicker layers, because with thicker layers a skin forms on the surface that prevents the passage of air, so that there is also the risk of trapped air or solvents. In addition, carbon dioxide is split off during the hardening process and remains trapped in the film.
The object of the present invention is to create a method for floor sealing of wooden floors using DD lacquers which allows a perfect seal to be produced in just a few work steps.
According to the invention, the above-mentioned method for sealing wooden floors using the above-mentioned lacquers is achieved by applying a quick-drying primer, which is sparingly soluble by lacquer of the type mentioned, to the floor in a first step and, after drying, the said lacquer is applied in a second work step in a layer thickness of 200-300 g / m2.
Embodiments of the method according to the invention are explained in more detail below.
With the present method, floor sealing can now be carried out in two work steps with almost no intermediate drying time. The first step includes the primer, the second the top coat. The surface of the wooden floor is sealed off by the dried primer. The primer prevents air bubbles from rising out of the pores of the same.
Since the undercoat is sparingly soluble due to the above-mentioned DD varnishes, the subsequently applied top layer can no longer dissolve the primer, so that the DD varnish cannot continue to flow, particularly with inferior woods. The poorly soluble undercoat forms a metal-like surface, i. H.
a dense, pore-free coating that completes the wood surface, which can be treated with very concentrated DD varnish without the formation of bubbles.
For this advantageously concentrated DD varnish, which is applied in quantities of 200-300 g / m², you can easily accept a longer drying time, since there are no intermediate drying times for the varnish applied in such a thick layer. Applying thick layers can save some work steps, so that the amount of work involved in producing the seal is significantly reduced.
Preferably, the primer used is polyvinyl acetate in solution or dispersion and the topcoat used is DD lacquer with castor oil as the reaction component, gasoline as the solvent.
A polyvinyl acetate dispersion does not penetrate deep into the wood and adheres to it excellently, whereby the light wood tone remains. Polyvinyl acetate is sparingly soluble in gasoline and in solvents that contain approx. 15% gasoline,
so that the polyvinyl acetate primer creates the desired, metal-like, pore-free surface on the wooden floor. Since this Voran painted by a component provided with castor oil as a reaction component and gasoline as a solvent DD paint is not dissolved and the paint layer remains on this primer, you can use castor oil as a reaction component.
Castor oil has the property of a comparatively long drying time, but with thicker layers this has the advantage that trapped air, carbon dioxide gas and solvents can escape from the paint layer for a long time, thus avoiding the formation of bubbles. The long drying time allows a layer thickness of 200-300 g / m² to be applied, so that the same layer thickness can be achieved in one work step, which previously required 2 to 3 work steps.
The method according to the present invention can therefore be carried out with considerably less effort. Thanks to the primer with a polyvinyl acetate dispersion, the light wood tone is retained. The primer with a polyvinyl acetate dispersion also has the advantage that the primer itself already forms a plastic film which is very hard-wearing and which additionally increases the layer thickness of the subsequently applied topcoat.
As an advantageous composition of the DD lacquer for carrying out the present process, one reaction component of the DD lacquer can e.g. 70% Rinzinusöl, 5% ethyl glycol acetate and 25% light petrol with a boiling point of 100 - 140 ° C
contain. 25% of this reaction component are then z. B. mixed with 75% diisocyanate solution. With this composition, the desired slow drying time of the DD lacquer is achieved, which almost completely rules out the formation of air bubbles.
