EMI0002.0073
EMI0002.0106

in 2000 Teilen Wasser.
Process for the production of new vat dyes of the anthraquinone series The present invention relates to a process for the production of new vat dyes of the anthraquinone series which are free from sulfonic acid and sulfonic acid halide groups and which have the formula
EMI0001.0011
correspond, in which at least one R is a heterocyclic radical,
while the other R can denote not only a heterocyclic radical but also an aryl radical.
Of particular importance are those dyestuffs of the formula (I) in which R is a monocyclic heterocyclic radical. In the new dyes, the NH-CO group is preferably bonded directly to the heterocyclic ring.
The new dyes are obtained if 1 mole of 2,5-di- (1 ', 4'-diamino-2'-anthraquinonyl) -1,3,4-oxdiazole is mixed with either 2 moles of the remainder of a heterocyclic Acylated carboxylic acid releasing agent,
or acylated with one mole of a remainder of a heterocyclic carboxylic acid and one mole of an agent releasing the remainder of an aromatic carboxylic acid in any order or simultaneously. The anhydrides or halides are preferably used as acylating agents,
in particular the chlorides of the corre sponding carboxylic acids. The heterocyclic acylating agents particularly suitable for the presentation of the new dyes in accordance with the invention include, for example, the following:
Furan carboxylic acid halides, in particular furan-2-carboxylic acid chloride, thiophenecarboxylic acid halides, in particular thiophene-2-carboxylic acid chloride, thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid chloride, 5-carbomethoxythiophene-2-carboxylic acid chloride and 2-phenylthiophene-5-carboxylic acid chloride, especially phenylthiophene-5-carboxylic acid chloride, especially phenylthiophene-2-thiazolecarboxylic acid chloride -4-carboxylic acid chloride, triazole carboxylic acid halides, for example 1-phenyl-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxylic acid chloride,
Pyridinecarboxylic acid halides, in particular pyridine-2-, -3- or -4-carboxylic acid chloride, quinolinearboxylic acid halides, especially quinoline-2-carboxylic acid chloride and 2-phenyl-quinoline-4-carboxylic acid chloride. Instead of the 2,5-di- (1 ', 4'-diamino-2'-anthraquinonyl) - 1,3,
4-oxdiazole with 2 moles of the same heterocyclic carboxylic acid can also be acylated with the halides of different heterocyclic carboxylic acids in any order or simultaneously.
From the series of aromatic acylating agents, the benzoyl halides, such as benzoyl chloride, p-toluic acid chloride, p-chlorobenzoyl or p-methoxybenzoyl chloride, may be mentioned.
The acylation is expediently carried out in an inert organic solvent, for example chlorobenzene, o-dichlorobenzene or, in particular, nitrobenzene, optionally in the presence of an acid-binding agent such as pyridine, or formamide or dimethylformamide as catalysts, at an elevated temperature. The dye obtained can be isolated by filtering off after the reaction mixture has cooled down.
In the preparation of dyes with different acyl radicals, instead of the 2,5-di- (1 ', 4'-di-amino-2'-anthraquinonyl) -1,3,4-oxdiazole, one can react successively with the various acylating agents to react the diamine with a mixture of the latter.
The new dyes can be used in a known manner as pigments or in particular for dyeing and printing a wide variety of fibers, in particular cellulose fibers. They can also be converted into leuco ester salts in a known manner and used in this form by the dyeing and printing processes customary for this class of dyes. Strong blue colorations of excellent light, wash, soda, chlorine and water drop fastness are obtained.
2,5-Di- (1'-amino-4'-benzoylamino-2'-anthraquinonyl) -1,3,4-oxdiazoles are already known as vat dyes (see British Patent No. 676,699). The new dianthraquinonyloxdiazoles according to the invention which contain heterocyclic acylamino groups are, however, superior to the dyes containing benzoylamino groups with regard to their color strength.
However, the dyes according to the invention also form a valuable addition to other previously known blue vat dyes that are not resistant to chlorine and chlorite, both on the green-tinged and on the red-tinged side, depending on the type of acylation component used.
The new dyes are also distinguished from the dibenzoyl derivatives in that they are more resistant to precipitation from sulfuric acid. Reprecipitation from sulfuric acid is a common measure used with vat dyes to convert the raw dye into a finely dispersed form.
Those of the dyes according to the invention which have different acyl radicals are generally distinguished from the similarly acylated products by a greater color strength.
In the following examples, unless otherwise stated, the parts are parts by weight, the percentages are percentages by weight and the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 2.8 parts of thiophene-2-carboxylic acid in 150 parts by volume of dry nitrobenzene together with 7.1 parts of thionyl chloride are heated to 100 with stirring, and the light yellow solution is kept at 100-110 for one hour .
Then the excess thionyl chloride is distilled off together with a little nitrobenzene under vacuum. At 100, 5.4 parts of 2,5-di- (1 ', 4'-diamino-2'-anthraquinonyl) -1,3,4-oxdiazole are then added and over 2 hours to 140-145' and for a further 3 Heated to 160-165 'for hours.
The product, which has crystallized out in fine needles, is filtered off with suction at 120 °, washed with hot nitrobenzene, then with benzene and finally with alcohol and acetone and dried under vacuum.
The new vat dye obtained in this way corresponds to the formula
