Process for the preparation of thiophene derivatives
The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of new valuable derivatives of thiophene which have the general formula
EMI1.1
where R is an optionally substituted thionylene radical bonded to the oxazole rings in the 2- and 5-positions, Xi is a non-aromatic hydrocarbon radical with at most 22 carbon atoms and X2 is a hydrogen atom, a chlorine atom or a non-aromatic hydrocarbon radical with at most 22 carbon atoms. and Xi and X2 to be taken together contain at least 4 carbon atoms.
This process is characterized in that corresponding o-oxy-aminobenzenes in stoichiometric amount with a dicarboxylic acid of the formula '
HOOC-R-COOH, in which R denotes a thienylene radical bonded to the carboxyl groups in the 2- and 5-positions, or reacts with a functional derivative of this dicarboxylic acid.
The present process is particularly important for the preparation of thiophene compounds which have the formula
EMI1.2
where Yt is a saturated, non-aromatic hydrocarbon radical with at most 12 carbon atoms and Y2 is a hydrogen atom, a chlorine atom or a saturated, non-aromatic hydrocarbon radical with at most 12 carbon atoms and Y1 and Y2 together contain at least 4 carbon atoms, and Zt and Z2 are identical or different and each has a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, e.g.
B. a methyl, ethyl, tert-butyl, phenyl, tolyl, benzyl or Cyclbhexylgruppe represent ..
Saturated, non-aromatic hydrocarbon radicals are the straight-chain or branched alkyl groups of the formula (3) CnH2n + where n is an integer from 2 to 22, preferably 2 to 12, and also cycloalkyl groups, such as, in particular, cyclohexyl.
The new derivatives of thiophene, which correspond to the general formula (I) given above, are advantageously obtained if, at higher temperatures and preferably in the presence of catalysts in a molecular ratio of 2:
1 at least one o-oxy-aminobenzene with a dicarboxylic acid of the formula (4) HOOC-R-COOH, in which R is a thiophene radical bonded to the carboxyl groups in the 2- and 5-positions, or with a functional derivative of this dicarboxylic acid. sets, whereby one o-oxybenzenes of the formulas

used, where Xi is a non-aromatic hydrocarbon radical with at most 22 carbon atoms and X2 is a hydrogen atom, a chlorine atom or a non-aromatic hydrocarbon radical with at most 22 carbon atoms and Xi and X2 together contain at least 4 carbon atoms.
Particularly suitable starting materials are, for. B. the o-oxyaminobenzenes, which have a saturated, non-aromatic hydrocarbon radical with at least 2, z. B. have 4, 6, 8 or 12 carbon atoms. For example, the l-amino 2-hydroxy-5-al, kylbenzenes, which of the formula

EMI2.3
EMI2.4
also 1-amino-2-hydroxy-cycloalkyl-benzenes, such as, in particular, 1-amino-2-hydroxy-5-cyclohexyl-benzene.
As a further starting material, a dicarboxylic acid of the formula (4), e.g. B. the thiophene-2, 5-dicarboxylic acid,
3, 4-dimethyl-thiophene-2, 5-dicarboxylic acid,
3,4-Diphenyl-thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid or monomethyl- or monophenyl-thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid, or a functional derivative of this dicarboxylic acid, for example a dinitrile or an ester, is used.
Among the esters, in particular those with low molecular weight aliphatic alcohols come into consideration, e.g. B. the dimethyl or diethyl ester.
The reaction between the respective components takes place by heating to higher temperatures, for example to 160 to 260 ° C., advantageously in an inert gas, e.g. B. a nitrogen stream. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of a catalyst. Suitable catalysts are, for. B. boric acid, zinc chloride, p-toluenesulfonic acid, and polyphosphoric acids including pyrophosphoric acid. If boric acid is used as the catalyst, it is advantageously used in an amount of about 0.5 to 5%, based on the total weight of the reaction mass. High-boiling, polar, organic solvents such as dimethylformamide and alphatic, optionally etherified oxy compounds, eg. B.
Propylene glycol, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether or diethyl glycol diethyl ether can also be used.
The new thiophene derivatives of the composition described at the outset have a more or less pronounced fluorescence in the dissolved or finely divided state. They can be used for the optical brightening of a wide variety of non-textile organic materials. Good results are, for example, when lightening acrylic resin varnishes, alkyd resin varnishes, cellulose ester varnishes, e.g. B. Acetylcellulose lacquers, or Nitrocellulbseesterlacken achieved. In particular, the new thiophene derivatives for the optical brightening of spinning melts of synthetic organic materials, such as.
B. from cellulose esters, such as cellulose propionate, or acetyl cellulose (cellulose diacetate or cellulose triacetate; acetate silk), polyamides (e.g. nylon) or from polyolefins such as polyethylene and polypropylene, as well as from films, foils, tapes or moldings made of these materials or others Materials such as polystyrene, polyvinyl alcohol or polyvinyl ester, organic acids, e.g. B. polyvinyl acetate, suitable.
The new thiophene derivatives can also be added to or incorporated into the materials before or during their shaping. For example, they can be added to the molding compound in the production of films, foils, tapes or moldings, or they can be dissolved in the spinning compound before spinning or distributed foin. The new thiophene derivatives can also before or during the polycondensation to z. B. polyamides the reaction mixtures or before or during the polymerization of monomers such. B. vinyl acetate, the polymerization masses are added.
The amount of the new thiophene derivatives, based on the material to be optically brightened, can vary within wide limits. Even with very small amounts, in certain cases, e.g. B. those of 0.01%, a clear and durable effect can be achieved. However, amounts of up to about 2% can also be used.
The new thiophene derivatives, in particular used as lightening agents, can also be used in combination with detergents. The detergents and brightening agents can be added separately to the washing baths to be used. It is also advantageous to use detergents which contain the whitening agents mixed in. Suitable detergents are, for example, soaps, sulfonate detergents, such as.
B. of sulfonated benzimidazoles substituted on the 2-carbon atoms by higher alkyl radicals, also salts of monocarboxylic acid esters of 4-sulfophthalic acid with higher fatty alcohols, furthermore salts of fatty alcohol sulfonates, alkylarylsulfonic acids or condensation products of higher fatty acids with aliphatic oxy- or aminosulfonic acids. Furthermore, ion-free detergents can be used, e.g. B.
Polyglycol ethers derived from ethylene oxide and higher fatty alcohols, alkylphenols or fatty amines. ¯
If the aforementioned method is combined with other treatment or refinement methods, the combined treatment is advantageously carried out with the aid of suitable preparations. These stable preparations are characterized in that they contain compounds of the formula (1) given at the outset as well as dispersants, detergents, etc.
The compounds of the formula (1) given at the outset can also be used fixed on a finely divided support material.
