Device for the hot forming of cutting tools Cutting tools, especially turning steels with different types of head pieces, such as straight and curved roughing steels, corner steels, head steels, plan steels, knife steels, etc., are now usually provided with hard metal cutting plates. The shafts for these tools are made from high quality carbon steel. The procedure is as follows: The shafts are heated and then bent at the end according to the desired steel shape.
The head piece is milled to the correct shape in various operations on a milling machine, with the final operation being the milling for the hard metal plate. The large amount of milling work considerably increases the cost of manufacturing the tool shafts.
The present invention makes it possible to reduce the milling work to one operation (milling for the hard metal plate), since the various heads of the shafts can be hot-pressed to size in one operation.
The device according to the invention is characterized in that movable wedge plates are installed in a box-shaped housing, with which the interior of the housing can be narrowed and expanded. In the interior of this locking device, plates are expediently arranged which, in negative form, correspond to the various turning tool shapes and dimensions.
In a preferred embodiment, the heated blank is pressed to size by means of a stamp which corresponds to the corresponding Stahlfor men and is attached to the movable part of a press, the pressed shaped steel being ejected effortlessly after opening the closing device.
In the accompanying drawings, the subject invention is shown, for example, and explained below.
Fig. 1 shows the structure of the device in vertical section, Fig. 2 shows a cross section of the device.
On a strong base plate 1, side walls 2 and 16 are welded to the side walls 3 and 15 provided with an inclined plane to form a box. Wedge-shaped pieces 4, the inclinations of which correspond to the side walls 3 and 15, can be moved up and down by the eccentric 7. Thereby it is sufficient that the movably arranged plates 5 and 14 can be opened and closed. The eccentrics 7 provided with lever arms are rotated by these lever arms and thereby adjust the wedges 4. Disks 8 fix the eccentrics against lateral displacement.
The insert plates, 6 and 13 of which are firmly screwed to the side walls 2 and 16 with screws 11, and the plates 5 and 14, which are loosely anchored at the bottom with the screws 10 so that they can be moved sideways, form the shape for the steel shaft that can be opened and closed. Inside, these plates have the negative shape of the type of steel head to be produced, which corresponds to the punch 12. By easily changing the plates and the Stem pels, the different head shapes and Stahldi dimensions can be produced with the same device.
Working process: The shaft material, heated to the point of glowing, is brought into the open mold from above and the mold is immediately closed by the levers on the eccentrics. The pressing process is then initiated and the mold is opened again and the pressed part is pushed out of the mold with the ejection device 9.
